Background: The process of respiration is the primary factor of the posture of the jaws and tongue. Thus, a changed respiratory form like mouth breathing can change the posture of the head, jaw, and tongue. This, in turn, could change the equilibrium of pressure on the jaws and teeth thus affecting jaw growth and teeth positions.

Nanotechnology has transformed the field of dentistry with immense potential to provide comprehensive oral health care using nanomaterials, advanced clinical tools, and devices. New materials with superior properties can be developed using nanotechnology by making use of their atomic or molecular properties. Although there are numerous ways in which nanomaterials impact our health, the primary cause is that they comprise chemicals that may have an inadvertent reaction in the body.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College, and Hospital, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune, India.

Recent evidence suggests the immense potential of human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) secretome conditioned medium-mediated augmentation of angiogenesis. However, angiogenesis potential varies from source and origin. The hMSCs derived from the oral cavity share an exceptional quality due to their origin from a hypoxic environment.

Dental resin composites are widely used restorative materials in dentistry for the treatment of carious and non-carious lesions as well as pit and fissure sealants, cavity liners, and endodontic sealers. They consist of two parts: an organic resin matrix and an inorganic/organic filler. The organic resin matrix phase is made up of multifunctional monomers and light-sensitive initiators, while the inorganic/organic filler phase is made up of micro/nano-sized fillers that primarily serve as reinforcement.

Background Modified triple antibiotic paste (MTAP) helps in the elimination of microorganisms which is imperative for the success of endodontic therapy. The intracanal medicament powders must be mixed with vehicles for better handling and penetration in the root canals. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of six low-surface-tension vehicles on the penetration of MTAP in dentinal tubules.

A fracture of the mandible is a rare complication that can occur during a dental extraction being carried out under local/general anesthesia. It is always advisable to take a pre-operative radiograph of the tooth to be considered for extraction to study the root configuration and make a surgical plan for the case. Most of the dental extractions carried out without taking a preoperative radiograph are completed uneventfully.

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

The soft tissue tumor lipoma is quite frequent. Although it is the most mesenchymal tumor of the trunk and proximal regions of the extremities, it is quite uncommon to find it on the oral mucosa, accounting for just 1% to 5% of benign oral tumors. There is no specific location that is more prone to lipoma development in the mouth.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to investigate how the timing of dental implant placement influences changes in bone density and crestal bone level, measured through CBCT over a period of three to six months.
  • A prospective clinical trial involved twenty healthy participants who underwent preoperative assessments, including oral hygiene status and bone density evaluation with CBCT, alongside various clinical parameters before surgery.
  • The findings indicated a weak correlation between bone density measurements at three and six months, but a significant relationship existed between insertion torque, bone density, and crestal bone level, highlighting the importance of proper implant placement.

Disorders of temporomandibular joint (TMDs) are characterised by a variety of symptoms, including discomfort in the orofacial region, muscle tenderness, restricted jaw motion and noise at the joint. Additional neurological symptoms such as headaches, vertigo, heaviness, and altered vision may also coexist with TMDs. Because prostaglandin production is a critical mediator of inflammatory reaction and is inhibited by corticosteroids, they have anti-inflammatory effects.

Introduction:  Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), caused by airway narrowing, is likely to occur if the mandibular plane to hyoid distance is greater than 15.4 mm and the posterior airway space (PAS) is less than 11 mm. OSA may be caused by mandibular deficit, bimaxillary retrusion, increased lower facial height, extended soft palate, a large tongue base, and a posteroinferiorly positioned hyoid bone.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to determine and compare the moment-to-force (Mc/F) ratio and the type of tooth movement generated in the anterior and posterior segments in orthodontic space closure with stainless steel and titanium-molybdenum alloy loop archwires.

Methods: Three-dimensional model of the maxilla from which the first premolar was extracted, 18 × 25-mil slot stainless steel brackets, and 16 × 22-mil stainless steel and β titanium-molybdenum alloy (TMA) closing loop archwires with anterior gable bend of 15° and posterior gable bend of 25° were constructed. The archwires were engaged in the brackets, and 1-mm activations were carried out, which were repeated 5 times.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is identified as repetitive and intermittent upper airway collapse or narrowing during sleep. Skeletal advancement through maxillomandibular surgery remains the most effective surgical treatment for OSA but is radical with certain relapse rate. Distraction Osteogenesis of mandible is a single-jaw surgical treatment alternative to bi-jaw surgeries having lesser complications.

Background: The status of the 5-year survival rate and loco-regional recurrence in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has remained unchanged over the decades. Recent advances in oral cancer research have revealed that the presence of molecular alterations in histologically tumor-free margins of OSCC has a prognostic significance and can aid in designing therapeutic strategies. However, the literature on molecular studies on histologically tumor-free margins is scant, especially in the Indian population.

Aim This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of extract and juice on human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells after the reimplantation of avulsed teeth using a collagenase-dispase test. Materials and methods Sixty-five human premolars, all of which would eventually need to be extracted, were split into three experimental groups: one treated with Hanks Balanced Salt Solution, another with Morinda citrifolia juice and Ocimum sanctum extract, and two control groups (positive and negative). There were 10 teeth in each control group and 15 teeth each were used in the experimental groups, with the first 30 minutes spent dry before being submerged in one of three experimental media for 45 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of treatment with collagenase and dispase II.
