Marine crabs play an integral role in the food chain and scavenge the debris in the ecosystem. Gradual increases in global atmospheric carbon dioxide cause ocean acidification (OA) and global warming that leads to severe consequences for marine organisms including crabs. Also, OA combined with other stressors like temperature, hypoxia, and heavy metals causes more severe adverse effects in marine crabs.

We report the occurrence of vibrational resonance and the underlying mechanism in a simple piecewise linear electronic circuit, namely, the Murali-Lakshmanan-Chua circuit, driven by an additional biharmonic signal with widely different frequencies. When the amplitude of the high-frequency force is tuned, the resultant vibrational resonance is used to detect the low-frequency signal and also to enhance it into a high-frequency signal. Further, we also show that even when the low-frequency signal is changed from sine wave to square and sawtooth waves, vibrational resonance can be used to detect and enhance them into high-frequency signals.

This study aims to investigate and understand the temporal and spatial movement of seawater intrusion into the coastal aquifers. Groundwater salinity increase has affected the entire eastern part of the study area and is primarily influenced by direct and reverse ion exchange reactions associated with intrusion and freshwater influx phases, which alternate over monsoons. To gain insights into the spatiotemporal dynamics of the seawater intrusion process, hydrochemical facies analysis utilizing the HFE-Diagram was employed.

Environmental enrichment (EE) through combination of social and non-biological stimuli enhances activity-dependent synaptic plasticity and improves behavioural performance. Our earlier studies have suggested that EE resilience the stress induced depression/ anxiety-like behaviour in Indian field mice Mus booduga. This study was designed to test whether EE reverses the social isolation (SI) induced effect and improve memory.

Redox homeostasis is the vital regulatory system with respect to antioxidative response and detoxification. The imbalance of redox homeostasis causes oxidative stress. Nuclear factor-erythroid 2 p45-related factor 2 (Nrf2, also called Nfe2l2)/Kelchlike ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) signaling is the major regulator of redox homeostasis.

The nanotechnology-driven industrial revolution widely relies on metal oxide-based nanomaterial (NM). Zinc oxide (ZnO) production has rapidly increased globally due to its outstanding physical and chemical properties and versatile applications in industries including cement, rubber, paints, cosmetics, and more. Nevertheless, releasing Zn ions into the environment can profoundly impact living systems and affect water-based ecosystems, including biological ones.

Phthalate and non-phthalate plasticizers are used in polymer materials, such as plastic and rubber. It has recently been found that diisobutyl adipate (DIBA), which is considered an environmentally safe non-phthalate plasticizer, potentially acts as a thyroid disruptor in fish. Here, we investigated the sexual hormone effects of DIBA based on the expression levels of genes that respond to endocrine disruption and sexual hormone activity in the livers and gonads, and on gonadal sexual differentiation in Japanese medaka.

The latest CRISPR-Cas9-mediated genome editing technology is expected to bring about revolution in rice yield and quality improvement, and thus validation of rice transformation protocols using CRISPR-Cas9-gRNA constructs is the need of the hour. Moreover, regeneration of more number of transgenic rice plants is prerequisite for developing genome-edited rice lines, as recalcitrant rice varieties were shown to have lower editing efficiencies which necessities screening of large number of transgenic plants to find the suitable edits. In the present study, we have simplified the Agrobacterium-mediated rice transformation protocol for both Indica and Japonica rice cultivars using CRISPR/Cas9 empty vector construct, and the protocols have been suitably optimized for getting large numbers of the regenerated plantlets within the shortest possible time.

We investigate the influence of field-like torque and the direction of the external magnetic field on a one-dimensional array of serially connected spin-torque nano oscillators (STNOs), having free layers with perpendicular anisotropy, to achieve complete synchronization between them by analyzing the associated Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert-Slonczewski equation. The obtained results for synchronization are discussed for the cases of 2, 10, and 100 oscillators separately. The roles of the field-like torque and the direction of the external field on the synchronization of the STNOs are explored through the Kuramoto order parameter.

The aim of this study was to screen the chemical components of leaves and assess their therapeutic attributes with regard to their antioxidant, antibacterial, and antidiabetic activities. The antidiabetic effects were explored to determine the α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory potential of the leaf extract. To identify the active antidiabetic drugs from the extracts, the GC-MS-screened molecules were docked with diabetes-related proteins using the glide module in the Schrodinger Tool.

To evaluate the binding affinity of 1AJ0 and 1AI9 proteins for developing potent antibacterial and antifungal compounds, we used the () leaf extract as the capping and reducing agent and reacted it with FeO and Cu(OAc) solutions to synthesize the -FeO-CuO nanocatalyst. The newly synthesized compounds were confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analyses.

NPPs (Non-phthalate plasticizers) are used as alternative plasticizers to phthalate esters, but there is limited knowledge on environmental residues, and they have not been reported in Japan. A method to analyze NPPs in seawater using solid-phase extraction was developed, and the residual burden of Diisobutyl adipate (DIBA), Acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC), Di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (DEHA), Di-(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate (DEHS) and Trioctyl trimellitate (TOTM) in seawater and sediment from the Osaka Bay was measured. Using an Oasis Max column and acetone as the eluting solvent, the recovery of the target substances in seawater is >68 %.

Spatio-temporal variation in phytoplankton community dynamics in a temporarily open/closed Swarnamukhi river estuary (SRE), located on the South East coast of India was investigated and correlated to that of the adjacent coastal waters. Understanding the seasonal variability of the phytoplankton community and influencing factors are essential to predicting their impact on fisheries as the river and coastal region serve as the main source of income for the local fishing communities. Downstream before the river meets the sea, an arm of the Buckingham Canal (BC), carrying anthropogenic inputs empties into the Swarnamukhi River (SR1).

There is a need for the replacement of toxic lead with nontoxic materials in radiation shielding applications. Instead of pure lead, lead mixed compounds/mixtures/alloys are considered to be less toxic and hence preferred for radiation shielding purposes. The compounds with magnesium are said to be having good magnetic and mechanical properties.

The universal optical logic gates, namely, nand and nor gates, have been theoretically simulated by employing the energy sharing collision of bright optical solitons in the Manakov system, governing pulse propagation in a highly birefringent fiber. Further, we also realize the two-input optical logic gates, such as and, or, xor, xnor, for completeness of our scheme. Interestingly, our idea behind the simulation naturally satisfies all the criteria for practical optical logic, which in turn displays the strength and versatility of our theoretical simulation of universal optical logic gates.

A new chalcone based chemosensor like 6-cinnamoylthiochroman-4-one (AZAN), has been designed and synthesized from 6-chlorothiochroman-4-one and cinnamaldehyde via keto ethylenic linkage. Its amino derivatives were synthesized by using urea (AZANU), thiourea (AZANTU) and 2,6-diamino pyridine (AZANPy) respectively and its metal ion sensing properties were investigated. The sensors can selectively recognize and sense the metal cations by showing different fluorescent characteristics at different concentrations.
