Urbanization has resulted in a surge in municipal solid waste (MSW) generation, posing critical waste management challenges in urban areas. To tackle this issue, we introduce a novel approach for mapping garbage vulnerability zones (GVZ) in Coimbatore City, India, combining the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and Geographic Information System (GIS). Seven criteria, including per capita waste generation, open dumping, land use land cover, road/railway networks, and population, were integrated and analyzed in GIS.

Improperly managed wastes that have been dumped in landfills over the years pose various challenges, but they also offer potential benefits. The feasibility of recycling such waste depends on the type of wastes, the condition of dumpsites, and the technology implemented for disposal. The selection of an alternative waste disposal method from the many available options for dumpsite remediation is a complex decision-making process among experts.

Heavy metals (HMs) enter waterbodies through various means, which, when exceeding a threshold limit, cause toxic effects both on the environment and in humans upon entering their systems. Recent times have seen an increase in such HM influx incident rates. This requires an instant response in this regard to review the challenges in the available classical methods for HM detection and removal.

Previous studies described that asthma patients who received corticosteroid therapy have been constrained by the corticosteroid resistance subsequently fostered to severe refractory asthma. In this review, we discussed the implications of TSLP, RXR, the role of STAT5-activating cytokines, and IL-33/NH-cell signaling pathways, and recent clinical evidence on TSLP blockers in steroid-resistant asthma. We have searched several public databases such as Pubmed, Scopus, and Relemed and obtained information pertinent to the TSLP, RXR, TSLP blockers, the STAT5-activating cytokines, and IL-33.

In this study, we adopt density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the structural and electronic properties of monolayer and bilayer 2-D porphyrin sheets (PS) of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) upon interaction with Li atoms as an electrode material for Li-ion batteries. Based on their mechanical properties, our systems exhibit remarkable stability. The adsorption of Li at various sites in the monolayer, including over and between the bilayers of PS, is investigated.

Unlabelled: Oxidative stress is a phenomenon caused by an imbalance between the production and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells and tissues and the ability of the biological system to detoxify these reactive products. Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is one of the most common targets of oxidative stress, and the oxidation of the enzymes causes the inactivation of Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), and the formation of disulfide bonds between molecules, leading to aggregates, and eventually to cell death. Inhibition of GAPDH enzymatic activity was due to the formation of a disulfide bond between Cys-149, Cys-152, and Cys-156, which forms a structural reorganization of GAPDH.

Recent research in rodents suggests that oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in the testes caused by high-fat diets (HFD) are a cause of male infertility. To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of the combination of hydroxycitric acid and capsaicin (HCC) against male reproductive disorders, we developed an HFD-induced obese rat model. Rats received HFD supplementation for 21 weeks, which induced obesity.

The organofluorine hexahydropyrimidine derivatives are used in the drug discovery due to its steric nature to hydrogen and its extreme electronegativity. The Ethyl 5-hydroxy-2-thioxo-4-(-tolyl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)hexahydropyrimidine-5-carboxylate (ETP5C) compound was synthesized and characterized by NMR (C and H), FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques for experimentally and theoretically and elemental analyses, mass spectra also investigated. The most stable structure of synthesized molecule was studied by PES analysis in gas and liquid medium.

Article Synopsis
  • Measuring the concentration of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) is crucial because they can harm human health and contaminate the environment and food supply.
  • Researchers developed a fluorescent blue emissive-carbon dot (B-CD) that can effectively detect OCPs in real samples, showing high sensitivity and specific binding to different types of OCPs.
  • The fluorescence method demonstrated low detection limits for various OCPs, making it a promising and efficient tool for monitoring pesticide residues in water and agricultural products.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are proteolytic enzymes, promote blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption, leading to neuronal damage and neuroinflammation. Among them, MMP-9 upregulation serves as an inflammatory biomarker in the central nervous system (CNS). Currently, the development of marine organism-derived bioactive compounds or metabolites as anti-inflammatory drugs has received considerable attention.

Marine crabs play an integral role in the food chain and scavenge the debris in the ecosystem. Gradual increases in global atmospheric carbon dioxide cause ocean acidification (OA) and global warming that leads to severe consequences for marine organisms including crabs. Also, OA combined with other stressors like temperature, hypoxia, and heavy metals causes more severe adverse effects in marine crabs.

The regulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), especially MMP-9, has a critical role in both physiological and pathological events in the central nervous system (CNS). MMP-9 is an indicator of inflammation that triggers several CNS disorders, including neurodegeneration. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) has the ability to stimulate the production of different inflammatory factors, including MMP-9, in several conditions.
