Optimal Facial Feature Based Emotional Recognition Using Deep Learning Algorithm.

Comput Intell Neurosci

December 2022

Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Humans have traditionally found it simple to identify emotions from facial expressions, but it is far more difficult for a computer system to do the same. The social signal processing subfield of emotion recognition from facial expression is used in a wide range of contexts, particularly for human-computer interaction. Automatic emotion recognition has been the subject of numerous studies, most of which use a machine learning methodology.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a malignant disease of the histiocytes involving various organ systems. The spectrum of liver involvement in LCH ranges from mild transaminitis to end-stage liver disease. The hallmark of hepatic LCH is secondary sclerosing cholangitis, which manifests due to a progressive destruction of the biliary tree by malignant histiocytes.

Bio-approach: preparation of RGO-AgNPs on cotton fabric and interface with sweat environment for antibacterial activity.

Bioprocess Biosyst Eng

November 2022

Environmental Molecular Microbiology Research Laboratory, Department of Biotechnology, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkkadu, Vellore, Tamilnadu, 632115, India.

This study aims to develop a reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) coating on the cotton fabric (CT) surface using photoreduction with a hydrothermal process and evaluate the antibacterial activity in a sweat environment. An ureolytic bacterium of Bacillus subtilis (HM475276) was used to generate ammonia from synthetic urine. RGO-AgNPs were synthesized on the CT surface using a moderate dosage of 1% silver ammonium complex.

Reactive nitrogen species (RNS), like reactive oxygen species (ROS), are useful for sustaining reproductive processes such as cell signaling, the regulation of hormonal biosynthesis, sperm capacitation, hyperactivation, and acrosome reaction. However, endogenous levels of RNS beyond physiological limits can impair fertility by disrupting testicular functions, reducing gonadotropin production, and compromising semen quality. Excessive RNS levels cause a variety of abnormalities in germ cells and gametes, particularly in the membranes and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and severely impair the maturation and fertilization processes.

A simple, efficient, and ecofriendly method was employed to synthesize TiO/ZrO/SiO ternary nanocomposites using leaf extract (PYLE) that shows improved photocatalytic and antibacterial properties. The characterization of the obtained nanocomposites was done by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopic (EDS) analysis. The synthesized ternary nanocomposites with nanoscale pore diameters were investigated for the elimination of Reactive Red 120 (RR120) dye.

Background: Conventionally, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) aims to focalize the current reaching the target region-of-interest (ROI). The focality can be quantified by the dose-target-determination-index (DTDI). Despite having a uniform tDCS setup, some individuals receive focal stimulation (high DTDI) while others show reduced focality ("non-focal").

The paranasal sinuses are hollowed, air-filled cavities surrounding the nasal cavity. Many pathological processes affect the sinuses, but inflammatory conditions are the commonest, even in asymptomatic patients who undergo head imaging for other indications showing one or more abnormalities of the sinuses. Our research aims to determine the prevalence of incidental paranasal sinuses abnormalities seen among patients who undergo head CT scanning.

S100A4 protein overexpression has been reported in different types of cancer and plays a key role by interacting with the tumor suppressor protein Tp53. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in S100A4 could directly influence the biomolecular interaction with the tumor suppressor protein Tp53 due to their aberrant conformations. Hence, the study was designed to predict the deleterious SNP and its effect on the S100A4 protein structure and function.
