Introduction: Medial femoral cutaneous (MFC) sensory nerve action potentials (SNAPs) can be easily recorded using distal stimulation. This study aimed to identify a new parameter using MFC SNAPs for the early electrophysiological diagnosis of length-dependent axonal polyneuropathy (LDAP) associated with uremic neuropathy.

Methods: Patients with chronic renal failure who were referred to the electrodiagnostic laboratory due to symptoms suggesting polyneuropathy were included.

Harnessing autophagy: A potential breakthrough in digestive disease treatment.

World J Gastroenterol

June 2024

Department of Histology and Embryology, Bezmialem Vakif University Medical Faculty, Istanbul 34093, Türkiye.

Autophagy, a conserved cellular degradation process, is crucial for various cellular processes such as immune responses, inflammation, metabolic and oxidative stress adaptation, cell proliferation, development, and tissue repair and remodeling. Dysregulation of autophagy is suspected in numerous diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, digestive disorders, metabolic syndromes, and infectious and inflammatory diseases. If autophagy is disrupted, for example, this can have serious consequences and lead to chronic inflammation and tissue damage, as occurs in diseases such as Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Objectives: The reliability of manual pulse checks has been questioned but is still recommended in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines. The aim is to compare the 10-s carotid pulse check (CPC) between heart massage cycles with the continuous femoral pulse check (CoFe PuC) in CPR, and to propose a better location to shorten the interruption times for pulse check.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 117 Non-traumatic CPR patients between January 2020 and January 2022.

We hypothesized that the loop material and size could affect the results of the culture when compared to the calibrated pipette. A total of 484 urine samples were included in the study, and each sample was plated by using different loop types and the calibrated pipette. The bacterial counts per milliliter were calculated and compared, with a focus on the important cutoff values of 10³ and 10⁴ CFU/ml for further identification.

In this study, we investigated the combined treatment of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and Anatolian propolis extract (PE) on colorectal cancer (CRC)using in vitro and in vivo studies. We exposed luciferase-transfected (Lovo-Luc CRC) cells and healthy colon cells (CCD-18Co) to varying concentrations of 5-FU and PE to assess their genotoxic, apoptotic, and cytotoxic effects, as well as their intracellular reactive oxygen species (iROS) levels. We also developed a xenograft model in nude mice and evaluated the anti-tumor effects of PE and 5-FU using various methods.

Hybrid Nasal Filler: Combining Agarose Gel and Hyaluronic Acid for Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

April 2022

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Bezmialem Vakif University Medical Faculty, Istanbul, Turkey.

Unlabelled: Given its structural properties, it would be a mistake to assume that a single type of filler fits perfectly to each anatomical region of the nose in nonsurgical rhinoplasty procedures. Therefore, we aimed to develop a hybrid treatment model by applying two different structural types of fillers. Hyaluronic acid (HA), a hydrophilic material, and agarose gel (AG), a nonhydrophilic and high G-prime material, were used in the study according to their advantages and disadvantages.

Introduction: We aimed to explore how physicians from different specialties approach the management of functional neurological symptom (conversion) and somatic symptom disorders in the emergency department compared with pulmonary embolism and how physicians' professional and personal characteristics influence their diagnostic preferences.

Methods: Using a vignette methodology, and cross-sectional design, three emergency department case vignettes of possible functional neurological symptom, somatic symptom disorder, and pulmonary embolism were presented to physicians from internal medicine, emergency medicine, and psychiatry. A structured survey including questions on diagnosis and management of these cases, and physicians' professional and personal characteristics (childhood trauma, attachment style) was conducted.

Introduction And Objectives: There are a few reports in the literature about the successful use of sugammadex in the treatment of hypersensitivity reactions caused by rocuronium; however, the pathophysiological mechanism is still unknown. This study aims to investigate the changes caused by rocuronium in the lung and the effect of sugammadex on these changes with biochemical, light microscopic and immunohistochemical parameters on a rat model.

Materials And Methods: For the study, 28-male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided, seven of each, into four groups.

Background: Restless legs syndrome [RLS] is known as a disease of iron and dopaminergic dysregulation but inflammatory processes might also have a role in the pathogenesis. In this study, we compared the circulating levels of hsCRP, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in patients with primary restless legs syndrome [RLS] and healthy control subjects.

Methods: We prospectively included 29 patients with primary RLS and 65 healthy controls [HC], all age-sex matched.
