Objective To investigate the relationship between brain masculinization and retinal thickness in children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Methods Forty-five patients with CAH aged between 4 and 18 years and 30 age-matched healthy controls were included in this prospective study. Macular area was examined with optical coherence tomography (OCT); central subfield thickness (CST), cube volume (CV) and macular retinal thickness (MT) were measured in each subject.

Portraying infective endocarditis: results of multinational ID-IRI study.

Infective endocarditis is a growing problem with many shifts due to ever-increasing comorbid illnesses, invasive procedures, and increase in the elderly. We performed this multinational study to depict definite infective endocarditis. Adult patients with definite endocarditis hospitalized between January 1, 2015, and October 1, 2018, were included from 41 hospitals in 13 countries.

Assessment of Mean Platelet Volume in Patients with AA Amyloidosis and AA Amyloidosis Secondary to Familial Mediterranean Fever: A Retrospective Chart - Review Study.

BACKGROUND Amyloidosis is a protein-misfolding disease characterized by the deposition of aggregated proteins in the form of abnormal fibrils that disrupt tissue structure, ultimately causing disease. Amyloidosis is very frequent in untreated familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) patients and it is the most important feature that determines the prognosis of FMF disease. The mean platelet volume (MPV) in FMF has been previously studied.

The Role of Supportive Treatment in the Management of Hyperammonemia in Neonates and Infants.

Background: The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), mainly continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF), and evaluate vasoactive requirements in hyperammonemic neonates and infants.

Methods: Patients who underwent CRRT for hyperammonemia were retrospectively analyzed.

Measurements And Main Results: Patients in 7 of the encounters were treated solely by CVVHDF.

Context: Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) encompasses a spectrum of premature menopause, including both primary and secondary amenorrhea. For 75% to 90% of individuals with hypergonadotropic hypogonadism presenting as POI, the molecular etiology is unknown. Common etiologies include chromosomal abnormalities, environmental factors, and congenital disorders affecting ovarian development and function, as well as syndromic and nonsyndromic single gene disorders suggesting POI represents a complex trait.

Clot Burden Score and Early Ischemia Predict Intracranial Hemorrhage following Endovascular Therapy.

Background And Purpose: Intracranial hemorrhage is a known complication following endovascular thrombectomy. The radiologic characteristics of a CT scan may assist with hemorrhage risk stratification. We assessed the radiologic predictors of intracranial hemorrhage following endovascular therapy using data from the INTERRSeCT (Identifying New Approaches to Optimize Thrombus Characterization for Predicting Early Recanalization and Reperfusion With IV Alteplase and Other Treatments Using Serial CT Angiography) study.

Evidence for an association of serum melatonin concentrations with recognition and circadian preferences in patients with schizophrenia.

Melatonin, a neuro-differentiation factor, may play a role in the neurodevelopmental origins of schizophrenia. Cognitive impairment and decreased melatonin are reported in schizophrenia; however, the relationship between them remains unclear. We hypothesised that patients with schizophrenia would have lower concentrations of circulating melatonin than healthy controls and that melatonin levels would be associated with cognitive impairment.

Evaluation of growth and puberty in a child with a novel TBX19 gene mutation and review of the literature.

Background: Biallelic mutations in the TBX19 gene cause severe early-onset adrenal failure due to isolated ACTH deficiency (IAD). This rare disease is characterized by low plasma ACTH and cortisol levels, with normal secretion of other pituitary hormones. Herein, we report a patient with IAD due to a novel TBX19 gene mutation, who is also of tall stature.

Turkish League Against Rheumatism (TLAR) Recommendations for the Pharmacological Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis: 2018 Update Under Guidance of Current Recommendations.

Objectives: This study aims to report the assessment of the Turkish League Against Rheumatism (TLAR) expert panel on the compliance and adaptation of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) 2016 recommendations for the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Turkey.

Patients And Methods: The EULAR 2016 recommendations for the treatment of RA were voted by 27 specialists experienced in this field with regard to participation rate for each recommendation and significance of items. Afterwards, each recommendation was brought forward for discussion and any alteration gaining ≥70% approval was accepted.

Comparison of two different superior capsule reconstruction methods in the treatment of chronic irreparable rotator cuff tears: a biomechanical and histologic study in rabbit models.

Background: In the treatment of irreparable rotary cuff (RC) tears, the superior capsule of the shoulder is reconstructed using tensor fascia lata (TFL) or several allografts to prevent progressive joint degeneration. This study compared the healing qualities of acellular human dermal graft (HDG) and the TFL autograft in superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) from biomechanical and histologic perspectives.

Methods: Chronic retracted RC tear models were created bilaterally in 9 rabbits, and 7 rabbits with intact RC were used as a control group.

Abnormal subcortical activity in congenital mirror movement disorder with RAD51 mutation.

Purpose: Congenital mirror movement disorder (CMMD) is characterized by unintended, nonsuppressible, homologous mirroring activity contralateral to the movement on the intended side of the body. In healthy controls, unilateral movements are accompanied with predominantly contralateral cortical activity, whereas in CMMD, in line with the abnormal behavior, bilateral cortical activity is observed for unilateral motor tasks. However, task-related activities in subcortical structures, which are known to play critical roles in motor actions, have not been investigated in CMMD previously.

Subdermal nitrous oxide delivery increases skin microcirculation and random flap survival in rats.

Random skin flaps are essential tools in reconstructive surgery. In this study, we investigated the effect of subdermal nitrous oxide (NO) application on random flap survival. In this experimental study, we used 21 female rats in three groups.

The PROCESS 2018 statement: Updating Consensus Preferred Reporting Of CasE Series in Surgery (PROCESS) guidelines.

Introduction: The PROCESS guidelines were published in 2016 to provide a structure for reporting surgical case series. The PROCESS guidelines have since been widely endorsed by a number of journals. The requirement to report compliance with each item outlined in the PROCESS statement has improved the reporting transparency of case series across a number of surgical specialties.

Introduction: The SCARE Guidelines were published in 2016 to provide a structure for reporting surgical case reports. Since their publication, SCARE guidelines have been widely endorsed by authors, journal editors, and reviewers, and have helped to improve reporting transparency of case reports across a range of surgical specialties. In order to encourage further progress in reporting quality, the SCARE guidelines must themselves be kept up to date.

Low molecular weight heparin treatment of acute moderate and severe pancreatitis: A randomized, controlled,open-label study.

Background/aims: Acute pancreatitis (AP) runs a moderately severe and severe course in 20%-30% of cases. The purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for the prevention of pancreatic necrosis (PN) in moderately severe and severe AP (MSAP).

S100A4 May Be a Good Prognostic Marker and a Therapeutic Target for Colon Cancer.

Background: Globally, the colorectal cancers rank the third in terms of cancer incidence and rank the fourth in cancer-associated deaths. S100A4, an important member of the S100 protein family, serves to promote tumor progression and metastasis. By conducting this study, we aim to examine the role of S100A4 in the prognosis of colon cancer and to demonstrate its prognostic significance.

Toxicity of Radiosurgery for Brainstem Metastases.

Background: Although stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is an effective modality in the treatment of brainstem metastases (BSM), radiation-induced toxicity remains a critical concern. To better understand how severe or life-threatening toxicity is affected by the location of lesions treated in the brainstem, a review of all available studies reporting SRS treatment for BSM was performed.

Methods: Twenty-nine retrospective studies investigating SRS for BSM were reviewed.

An incidental giant preperitoneal fibrolipoma diagnosed during laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Preperitoneal lipomas are rare in clinical practice. Here we report an unexpected diagnosis of a giant preperitoneal fibrolipoma detected intraoperatively during laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a 56-year-old woman. The mass was excised and a histopathological examination confirmed fibrolipoma.

Healing of Ischemic Colon Anastomosis in Rats Could Be Provided by Administering Dexpanthenol or Coenzyme Q10.

Background: In this study, the effectiveness of dexpanthenol and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on the healing of ischemic colon anastomosis was investigated.

Methods: Forty eight male Wistar Albino rats were divided into four equal groups (Sham-S, Sham-I, DXP, Q10). Following full layer colon resection, single layer colon anastomosis, without creating ischemia, was performed on the Sham-S group.

Turkish League Against Rheumatism Consensus Report: Recommendations For Management of Axial Spondyloarthritis.

Objectives: This study aims to update 2011 Turkish League Against Rheumatism SpondyloArthritis Recommendations, and to compose a national expert opinion on management of axial spondyloArthritis under guidance of current guidelines, and implantation and dissemination of these international guidelines into our clinical practice.

Patients And Methods: A scientific committee of 28 experts consisting of 14 rheumatologists and 14 physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists (one of them also has an immunology PhD) was formed. The recommendations, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment were scrutinized paying special attention with convenient key words.
