Humoral Response to BNT162b2 and CoronaVac in Patients Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.

Introduction: Data regarding inactivated vaccines for SARS-CoV-2 in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) are limited. We aimed to investigate humoral responses induced by CoronaVac compared to BNT162b2 in this population.

Methods: In this multicenter prospective cohort study, adult patients undergoing MHD who lacked a history of COVID-19 and decided to get vaccinated with BNT162b2 or CoronaVac were enrolled.

Comparison of the Effects of GMCSF-Containing and Traditional Culture Media on Embryo Development and Pregnancy Success Rates.

Objective:  The use of granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF)-containing medium, which is a commercial medium that is used for cultivation of embryos in in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments, has been suggested to increase the efficiency of this procedure in patients with previous multiple unsuccessful attempts. In this retrospective study, we analyzed GM-CSF-containing embryo culture media compared with traditional culture media in terms of development of embryos, pregnancy, and ongoing pregnancy success and live birth rates.

Methods:  This is a prospective case control study conducted in a single center.

Clinical and genetic spectrum from a prototype of ciliopathy: Joubert syndrome.

Objective: Joubert syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a distinctive hindbrain malformation called molar tooth sign, causing motor and cognitive impairments. More than 40 genes have been associated with Joubert syndrome. We aim to describe a group of Joubert syndrome patients clinically and genetically emphasizing organ involvement.

Utility of the gastro-laryngeal tube during transesophageal echocardiography: A prospective randomized clinical trial.

Background: To validate the utility and performance of the gastro-laryngeal tube (GLT) in terms of cardiologist and patient satisfaction levels, incidence of and attempts at successful transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probe placement, perioperative and postoperative hemodynamics, and adverse events related to the TEE procedure.

Methods: In this randomized prospective clinical study, forty-four patients undergoing TEE and aged 20 to 80 years old scheduled for TEE were randomly allocated to two study groups: Group SA (sedation and analgesia) and Group GLT. Cardiologist and patient satisfaction levels, TEE probe placement performance, hemodynamics, adverse events related to the TEE procedure, demographic characteristics, and TEE procedure data were recorded.

Efficacy and safety of interleukin-1 blockers in kidney transplant recipients with familial Mediterranean fever: a propensity score-matched cohort study.

Background: Data on use of interleukin (IL)-1 blockers in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) are very limited. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anakinra and canakinumab in the transplantation setting.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included KTRs who suffered from AA amyloidosis caused by FMF and treated with anakinra or canakinumab (study group, n = 36).

Analysis of the Prophylactic use of Hydroxychloroquine at the Beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic Among Physicians.

Objective: Throughout the pandemic, physicians working at the frontlines have embarked on various quests to protect themselves, and many physicians preferred using hydroxychloroquine (HQN) as a prophylactic agent. This study aimed to investigate the reasons leading physicians to use HQN and its effects on them.

Materials And Methods: This study is cross-sectional with a target population of physicians working in pandemic hospitals in İstanbul, Turkey.

Introduction: Data to guide the evaluation of living-related donor candidates for kidney transplant recipients with Alport syndrome (AS) spectrum are limited. We aimed to examine a cohort of living-related donors to recipients with AS and compare their outcomes with a control group to improve understanding of the clinical course and outcomes of living donation in this context.

Methods: Living donors (LDs) of AS recipients and propensity score-matched control LDs without any family history of AS (control group) were followed for major cardiac events, death, post-donation estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and proteinuria.

Brain monoamine vesicular transport disease caused by homozygous SLC18A2 variants: A study in 42 affected individuals.

Purpose: Brain monoamine vesicular transport disease is an infantile-onset movement disorder that mimics cerebral palsy. In 2013, the homozygous SLC18A2 variant, p.Pro387Leu, was first reported as a cause of this rare disorder, and dopamine agonists were efficient for treating affected individuals from a single large family.

The impact of childhood trauma and daily life experiences on emotional and psychotic symptom intensity in psychosis: An experience sampling study.

Adverse childhood experiences create vulnerability to psychosis through biological and cognitive changes, and that may be observed as an increased emotional and psychotic response to daily life experiences in adulthood. This study aims to examine the effects of childhood maltreatment on psychotic patients' daily stress and emotional and psychotic intensity related to various experiences throughout the day. Daily activities and events, and emotional and psychotic intensity of forty-one psychotic patients were assessed with the Experience Sampling Method.

A comparison of methods of plasmapheresis for the treatment of late antibody mediated rejection in kidney transplant recipients.

Introduction: We compared the outcomes associated with plasma exchange (PE), double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP), or immunoadsorption (IA) in the treatment of late antibody mediated rejection (AMR).

Methods: Sixty-nine kidney transplantation (KTx) recipients with late AMR were retrospectively categorized according to management with PE (n = 30), DFPP (n = 22) or IA (n = 17). Allograft loss was compared across treatment groups by Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression.

Aim: Nail involvement is common in psoriatic arthritis. This study assesses clinical characteristics, nail psoriasis prevalence, and impact of nail psoriasis on disease activity in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Method: This cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted by the Turkish League Against Rheumatism using PsA patients recruited from 25 centers.

Evaluation of hepatitis serology and frequency of viral reactivation in patients with inflammatory arthritis receiving biologic agents: a multicenter observational study.

To evaluate of hepatitis serology and reactivation frequency in patients with rheumatic disease receiving biologic agents. Our study included patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases from 23 centers, who were followed up with biological therapy. Demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, duration of drug use and hepatitis serology and the state of viral reactivation were analyzed.

Cardiometabolic profiles in women with adenomyosis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the reproductive profiles, metabolic parameters and cardiometabolic risk assessed by surrogate indexes in women with adenomyosis. Ninety-six premenopausal women who were diagnosed with adenomyosis by transvaginal ultrasound and 97 age-body mass index (BMI) matched controls with normal ultrasound during routine examination were included. Women with adenomyosis were more likely to have higher gravidity and had more abortions than women without adenomyosis.

We aimed to describe the antibody response against SARS-CoV-2 after inactivated COVID-19 vaccine in elderly individuals. SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels were measured in the blood samples of 126 volunteers over the age of 60. The antibody positivity rate was 42.

Improvement of Work Productivity and Quality of Life with Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor Treatment Used in Crohn's Disease in Routine Clinical Practice in Turkey.

Background: Patients with Crohn's disease experience major deterioration in work productivity and quality of life. We aimed to provide the long-term effects of anti-tumor necrosis factor agents on work productivity and activity impairment and quality of life in patients with Crohn's disease using the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire and the Short-Form Health Survey-36.

Methods: Patients with Crohn's disease and initiated an anti-tumor necrosis factor treatment were included and followed up for 12 months in this observational study.

Sleep, depression, anxiety and fatigue in women with premature ovarian insufficiency.

Purpose: To assess sleep disturbances, levels of anxiety, depression and fatigue in women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI).

Materials And Methods: The study included 62 women with POI and 62 age-matched controls. Women in both groups completed questionnaires.

Comparison of endoscopic ultrasound-guided coil deployment with and without cyanoacrylate injection for gastric varices.

Background And Study Aims: Gastric variceal bleeding is more severe than esophageal variceal bleeding, and is associated with higher rebleeding and mortality rates. The benefits of endoscopic ultrasound-guided coil deployment alone for treating gastric varices, compared with concomitant cyanoacrylate injection, remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the outcomes of both modalities.

Middle-term outcomes in renal transplant recipients with COVID-19: a national, multicenter, controlled study.

Background: In this study, we evaluated 3-month clinical outcomes of kidney transplant recipients (KTR) recovering from COVID-19 and compared them with a control group.

Method: The primary endpoint was death in the third month. Secondary endpoints were ongoing respiratory symptoms, need for home oxygen therapy, rehospitalization for any reason, lower respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, biopsy-proven acute rejection, venous/arterial thromboembolic event, cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection/disease and BK viruria/viremia at 3 months.

Real-life comparison of afatinib and erlotinib in non-small cell lung cancer with rare EGFR exon 18 and exon 20 mutations: a Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) study.

Objectives: To compare the survival of first- and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in patients with rare EGFR exon 18 and exon 20 mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated survival characteristics of 125 patients with EGFR exon 18 and exon 20 mutated NSCLC who received erlotinib or afatinib as first line treatment between 2012 and 2021 from 34 oncology centres. Since exon 20 insertion is associated with TKI resistance, these 18 patients were excluded from the study.
