The outcomes of bifurcation percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in octogenarians and nonagenarians have received limited study. We compared the procedural characteristics and outcomes of bifurcation PCIs among patients ≥80 vs <80-years-old in a multicenter registry. Of 1,253 patients who underwent 1,262 bifurcation PCIs between 2014 and 2024 at six centers, 194 (15%) were octogenarians or nonagenarians.

Introduction: Medial femoral cutaneous (MFC) sensory nerve action potentials (SNAPs) can be easily recorded using distal stimulation. This study aimed to identify a new parameter using MFC SNAPs for the early electrophysiological diagnosis of length-dependent axonal polyneuropathy (LDAP) associated with uremic neuropathy.
Methods: Patients with chronic renal failure who were referred to the electrodiagnostic laboratory due to symptoms suggesting polyneuropathy were included.

The impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the outcomes of bifurcation percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has received limited study. We compared the procedural characteristics and outcomes of patients with and without DM in 1,302 bifurcation PCIs (1,147 patients) performed at 5 centers between 2013 and 2024. The prevalence of DM was 33.

Autophagy, a conserved cellular degradation process, is crucial for various cellular processes such as immune responses, inflammation, metabolic and oxidative stress adaptation, cell proliferation, development, and tissue repair and remodeling. Dysregulation of autophagy is suspected in numerous diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, digestive disorders, metabolic syndromes, and infectious and inflammatory diseases. If autophagy is disrupted, for example, this can have serious consequences and lead to chronic inflammation and tissue damage, as occurs in diseases such as Chron's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Scabies, caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis mite burrowing into the skin, is a highly contagious disease characterized by intense nocturnal itching. Its global impact is considerable, affecting more than 200 million individuals annually and posing significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide. Transmission occurs primarily through direct skin-to-skin contact, contributing to its widespread prevalence and emergence as a substantial public health concern affecting large populations.

Objectives: The reliability of manual pulse checks has been questioned but is still recommended in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines. The aim is to compare the 10-s carotid pulse check (CPC) between heart massage cycles with the continuous femoral pulse check (CoFe PuC) in CPR, and to propose a better location to shorten the interruption times for pulse check.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 117 Non-traumatic CPR patients between January 2020 and January 2022.

Central nervous system (CNS) metastases can be seen at a rate of 30% in advanced stages for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Growing evidence indicates the predictive roles of driver gene mutations in the development of brain metastases (BM) in recent years, meaning that oncogene-driven NSCLC have a high incidence of BM at diagnosis. Today, 3rd generation targeted drugs with high intracranial efficacy, which can cross the blood-brain barrier, have made a positive contribution to survival for these patients with an increased propensity to BM.

We hypothesized that the loop material and size could affect the results of the culture when compared to the calibrated pipette. A total of 484 urine samples were included in the study, and each sample was plated by using different loop types and the calibrated pipette. The bacterial counts per milliliter were calculated and compared, with a focus on the important cutoff values of 10³ and 10⁴ CFU/ml for further identification.

Background: During the COVID pandemic, research has shown an increase in candidemia cases following severe COVID infection and the identification of risk factors associated with candidemia. However, there is a lack of studies that specifically explore clinical outcomes and mortality rates related to candidemia after COVID infection.
Objectives: The aim of this international study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes and identify factors influencing mortality in patients who developed candidemia during their COVID infection.

Background: The Masseter Vestibular-Evoked Myogenic Potential (mVEMP) test evaluates the vestibulo-masseteric reflex neural pathway between the sound-stimulated saccule hair cells and the motor neurons of the trigeminal nerve.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the contribution of mVEMP to the conclusive diagnosis of recurrent vestibulopathy patients that were diagnosed with Possible Ménière's disease.
Methods: The study includes 20 healthy individuals aged 18-40 years and 20 patients that were diagnosed with possible Ménière's disease according to the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS, 1995) Guidelines for the Definition of Ménière's Disease.

This study aimed to investigate the potential prognostic role of the platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR) ratio in patients presenting with suspected acute coronary syndromes (ACS). A systematic search of PubMed Central, Scopus, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from conception through 20 August 2023 was conducted. We used odds ratios (OR) as the effect measure with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for dichotomous data and mean differences (MD) with a 95% CI for continuous data.

Purpose: The techniques to be performed for bullous middle turbinates are well-defined and widely accepted in the literature. However, in the case of solid middle turbinate hypertrophy, information on surgical techniques that take into account function and sense of smell is very limited in the literature. The aim of this study was to compare the airway patency and olfaction results of patients diagnosed with solid middle turbinate hypertrophy, who underwent subtotal (transverse) resection or medial flap turbinoplasty of the middle turbinates.

In this study, we investigated the combined treatment of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and Anatolian propolis extract (PE) on colorectal cancer (CRC)using in vitro and in vivo studies. We exposed luciferase-transfected (Lovo-Luc CRC) cells and healthy colon cells (CCD-18Co) to varying concentrations of 5-FU and PE to assess their genotoxic, apoptotic, and cytotoxic effects, as well as their intracellular reactive oxygen species (iROS) levels. We also developed a xenograft model in nude mice and evaluated the anti-tumor effects of PE and 5-FU using various methods.

Existing literature about peritoneal tuberculosis (TBP) is relatively insufficient. The majority of reports are from a single center and do not assess predictive factors for mortality. In this international study, we investigated the clinicopathological characteristics of a large series of patients with TBP and determined the key features associated with mortality.

Introduction: While data on oxidative stress in psychiatric disorders are increasing, studies on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are limited. Although many studies report neurocognitive deficits in OCD, to our knowledge, no study exists examining the relationship between neurocognitive functions and oxidative stress in OCD. This study investigated the neurocognitive functions in OCD and its relationship with OCD severity and oxidative metabolism.

Introduction: More than half of all worldwide deaths and disabilities were caused by stroke. Large artery atherosclerosis is identified as a high etiological risk factor because it accounts for 20% of ischemic stroke.
Objectives: To identify the significance of TRAIL and adropin release and the relative changes related to S100B levels, as well as the relationship between these biomarkers and the final infarct core, the clinical outcome, and the presence of large artery atherosclerosis in acute stroke patients.
