Background: Cell culture increases both diagnostic specificity and sensitivity of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and the most important reason to use cell culture for definitive diagnosis in PCD is to exclude secondary ciliary defects. Here we aimed to evaluate the cilia functions and cilia ultrastructural abnormalities after ciliogenesis of cell culture in patients with definitive diagnosis of PCD. We also aimed to compare high speed videomicroscopy (HSVM) results of patients before and after ciliogenesis and to compare them with electron microscopy, genetic and immunofluorescence results in patients with positive diagnosis of PCD.

Problem: Although pregnant women with gestational diabetes (GD), morbidly adherent placenta (MAP), and pregnancy hypertension (pHT) diseases lead to intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), little is known about their effect on mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) and innate lymphoid cells (ILC) in the umbilical cord. This study aimed to quantify and characterize MAIT cells and ILCs in the cord blood of pregnant women with GD, MAP, and pHT diseases.

Method Of Study: Cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMCs) were isolated by Ficoll-Paque gradient.

Objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects both maternal and fetal/infant outcomes during and after pregnancy. The reason for the high incidence of large-for-gestational-age (LGA) infants in GDM patients despite close monitorization of glucose levels with early detection of the disease remains unclear to date. Our study aims to investigate the levels of the third-trimester novel marker afamin in GDM versus non-GDM pregnancies in terms of glycemic control status and their utility in the prediction of LGA fetuses.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compares the effectiveness of subtracted computed tomography angiography (sub-CTA) against digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in assessing residues of clipped intracranial aneurysms, focusing on patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
  • - Results show that DSA detected residues in 29% of patients while sub-CTA detected only 11%, with sub-CTA's sensitivity particularly low for aneurysms 3 mm or smaller.
  • - While sub-CTA may be useful for evaluating larger aneurysms, DSA remains the gold standard for identifying residual aneurysms, according to the findings of this initial comparative study.
