Penile fracture is a remarkable but under reported urologic injury. Coitus and penile manipulations are common predisposing factors. Rupture of the superficial vein of penis is an uncommon situation that makes differential diagnosis with other penile lesions.

The aim of this study was to investigate p38-mitogene-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK), nuclear factor-kappa B (p65-NF-kB) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in an experimental model of varicocele in the rat testis. Male Wistar albino rats (n = 18) were divided into three equal groups: control group, sham operated group and left varicocele-induced group. Malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were biochemically assessed, and the p38-MAPK and NF-kB activity, and iNOS expression were immunohistochemically studied in the right and left testicles of rats from each group.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), selective nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) and p38-mitogene-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK) on oxalate-induced crystal deposition in renal tubules. The rats were divided into three groups; group 1; control group, group 2; ethylene glycol (EG) group, group 3; EG + pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) group. Rats were sacrified on 7, 15 and 45th days.

Background And Aims: Gentamicin (GM) is still considered to be an important antibiotic against life-threatening, gram-negative bacterial infections despite its known nephrotoxic effects. We aimed to evaluate the potential protective effect of atorvastatin (ATO) against GM-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.

Materials And Methods: The rats were randomly divided into five groups of six animals each: control, GM (100 mg/kg/day), ATO (10 mg/kg/day), GM + ATO, and GM + Vehicle.

To evaluate the role of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), selective nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB), and p38-mitogene-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK) on hyperoxaluria-induced oxidative stress and stone formation in rat kidneys. The rats were divided into five groups: group 1, control group; group 2: ethylene glycol (EG) group; group 3: EG + pomegranate juice (PJ)-low group; group 4: EG + PJ-middle group; group 5: EG + PJ-high group. Rats were sacrificed on 7, 15, and 45 days.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a major public health problem that seriously affects the quality of life of patients and their partners and its prevalence increases significantly with ageing. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that age-associated decrease in penile endothelial (eNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) activity in aged rats may be increased by regular exercise. A total of 28 young (4 m) and aged (24 m) male rats were divided into four equal groups: group 1 - young control; group 2 - young trained; group 3 - old control and group 4 - old trained group.

Nephrotoxicity is a major complication of gentamicin (GEN), which is widely used in the treatment of severe gram-negative infections. Reactive oxygen spaces (ROS) are important mediators of gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) have different activities including antioxidant properties.

Purpose: To investigate whether melatonin (MLT) treatment has any protective effect on unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO)-induced kidney injury in rats.

Materials And Methods: Six animals were included in each of the following five groups: group 1, sham operation but no treatment; group 2, unilateral ureteral ligation but no treatment; group 3, sham operation + MLT; group 4, unilateral ureteral ligation + MLT; group 5, unilateral ureteral ligation +5% ethanol (the vehicle of MLT). The injected dose of MLT was 1 mg/kg/day (intraperitoneal).

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the cellular/biochemical mechanisms by which cisplatin (CIS) causes testicular toxicity. We evaluated the role of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB) activation in the pathogenesis of testicular damage induced by CIS, and investigated the effects of curcumin (CMN) against CIS-induced testicular injury in rats.

Methods: Rats were divided into five equal groups: (1) control, (2) CIS, (3) CMN, (4) CIS + CMN and (5) CIS + corn oil.

We evaluated the genotypes of the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTT) in patients with premature ejaculation (PE) to determine the role of genetic factors in the etiopathogenesis of PE and possibly to identify the patient subgroups. A total of 70 PE patients and 70 controls were included in this study. All men were heterosexual, had no other disorders and were either married or in a stable relationship.

The objective of this study was to evaluate inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and nuclear factor-kappaB inhibitor (NF-kappaB) expression and the potential chemoprotective effects of an NF-kappaB inhibitor, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), against cisplatin-induced testicular damage in rats. Rats were divided into 4 equal groups: group 1, control; group 2, injected with cisplatin (CIS) for 5 days (7 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally [IP]); group 3, injected with PDTC alone; group 4, injected with CIS plus PDTC (100 mg/kg IP). Body and testicular weights, plasma testosterone levels, and histopathologic structure of the testicular tissue were determined.

Aim: Recent studies have shown that both oxidative and reductive stresses are present within the internal spermatic vein of patients with varicocele. The aim of this study was to compare the activities of antioxidant enzymes in the internal spermatic vein and brachial vein of patients with varicocele.

Methods: Fifteen primary infertile varicocele patients and ten normal-nonvaricocele-fertile control subjects participated in this study.
