Long-term comparison of horizontal rectus surgery with vertical tendon transposition and combined vertical tendon transposition and inferior oblique-weakening in V-pattern exotropia.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of bilateral lateral rectus recession with vertical tendon transposition (LRVT) and LRVT combined with inferior oblique (IO) disinsertion for V-pattern exotropia.

Methods: The medical records of patients who had mild-to-moderate (+1 and +2) inferior oblique overaction (IOOA) and underwent half-tendon-width upward LRVT (transposition group), and LRVT with IO disinsertion (combined surgery group) for V-pattern exotropia and who had at least 3 years of postoperative follow-up were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: A total of 45 patients were included: 22 in the transposition group and 23 in the combined surgery group.

Treatment of convergence insufficiency type intermittent exotropia with bupivacaine injection to the medial rectus combined with lateral rectus recession.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of combined bupivacaine HCL (BPX) injection in the medial rectus (MR) muscle with recession of the lateral rectus muscle in the treatment of convergence insufficiency-type intermittent exotropia (CI-IXT).

Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent combined injection-recession treatment from January 2019 to January 2020 for CI-IXT were reviewed retrospectively along with a group of age-matched controls with IXT without CI who underwent only unilateral LR recession during the same period. The following data were extracted from the record: age at surgery, average follow-up period, angle of deviation at distance and near and the difference between them before and after surgical procedure, correction of near and distance deviations, and recession dosage.

The effect of idebenone and corticosteroid treatment on methanol-induced toxic optic nerve and retinal damage in rats: biochemical and histopathological examination.

Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of methylprednisolone, the CoenzymeQ10 (CoQ10) structural analogue idebenone, and both together on the optic nerve (ON) and retinal layers following methanol intoxication in rats with histopathological and biochemical methods.

Materials And Methods: This experimental study was conducted with 30 male Wistar rats. The rats were divided into five equal groups depending on the treatment protocol:healthy controls (HC), methanol (M), methanol + methylprednisolone (MM), methanol + idebenone (MI), and methanol + methylprednisolone + idebenone (MMI).

A Comparison of Transcanalicular, Endonasal, and External Dacryocystorhinostomy in Functional Epiphora: A Minimum Two-Year Follow-Up Study.

Purpose: To compare the outcomes of transcanalicular diode laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy (TCL-DCR), nonendoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (NEN-DCR), and external dacryocystorhinostomy (EXT-DCR) as first-line treatments for functional epiphora.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, case-control study included 135 eyes of 135 patients with functional epiphora (86 females and 49 males). Functional epiphora was diagnosed based on a patent lacrimal system with a delay in the fluorescein dye disappearance test (FDDT) or dacryoscintigraphy (DSG) and no ocular surface or eyelid abnormalities.

The efficacy of different anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents and prognostic biomarkers in monitoring of the treatment for myopic choroidal neovascularization.

Purpose: To evaluate anatomical and visual results of eyes with naive myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) in patients treated with intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapies.

Material And Methods: This is a retrospective, non-randomized, comperative, intervetional study. One hundred fourteen eyes of 114 patients with mCNV who underwent intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB), intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) or intravitreal aflibercept (IVA) monotherapy injections were enrolled into the study.

Efficacy of fitting HydroCone (Toris K) contact lenses for the visual rehabilitation of patients with posterior microphthalmos.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of soft HydroCone silicone hydrogel contact lenses in patients with posterior microphthalmos.

Methods: The charts of 13 patients with posterior microphthalmos (26 eyes) who were fitted with soft HydroCone silicone hydrogel contact lenses were reviewed retrospectively. All the patients underwent assessments of uncorrected and best spectacle-corrected visual acuity and cycloplegic refraction.

Whole tendon disinsertion of superior oblique for the treatment of Brown syndrome: a comparative study with multiple techniques.

Purpose: To evaluate the results of a temporal whole superior oblique (SO) tendon disinsertion technique compared with other SO tendon-weakening procedures.

Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent an SO procedure at University of Health Sciences Beyoğlu Eye Research and Training Hospital from January 2008 to January 2018 for treatment of Brown syndrome were reviewed retrospectively. Patients with follow-up of at least 12 months were included.

Comparison of quantitative measurement of macular vessel density before and after inferior oblique muscle-weakening surgery: An optical coherence tomography angiography study.

Purpose: To investigate hemodynamic changes in retinal and choroidal vasculature after surgical inferior oblique (IO) weakening through optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent unilateral IO-weakening surgery at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who had OCTA measurements before surgery and on postoperative days 7 and 30 were included.

Choroidal vascularity index and choroidal thickness changes in patients with allergic asthma.

Background: This study aimed to investigate whether the choroidal vascularity index (CVI), choroidal thickness (ChT), and retinal nerve fiber thickness (RNFL) of patients with allergic asthma change compared to the healthy control group.

Methods: This cross-sectional, observational study comprised 59 eyes of 59 patients with allergic asthma (Group 1) and 50 eyes of 50 age and sex-matched healthy volunteers as a control group (Group 2). CVI was measured by binarization of images obtained from choroidal enhanced depth imaging (EDI) mode optic coherence tomography.

Sliding shape extraocular muscle transposition with plication: Long-term results.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the long-term results of sliding shape extraocular muscle transposition, which is a novel operation method of delivering both vascular protection and strengthening of the muscles and transposition of the muscles.

Methods: The patients' files were scanned retrospectively. All patients underwent a complete eye examination in addition to motility examination, both preoperatively and postoperatively.

Evaluation of Successful and Failed Filtering Blebs after Trabeculectomy Using Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography.

Purpose: To evaluate filtering bleb characteristics using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and analyze correlations between these parameters and intraocular pressure (IOP).

Methods: The study included 54 eyes of 43 patients who underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C. The patients were divided into two groups based on mean postoperative IOP.

Predictive Factors for Corneal Scarring in Progressive Keratoconus Patients after Corneal Collagen Cross-linking.

: To evaluate predictive factors for corneal scar formation following corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL).: The medical records of 295 progressive keratoconus patients who had undergone accelerated CXL were reviewed retrospectively in this comparative cohort study. Thirty-two eyes of 32 patients who still had a corneal scar in the first year (scar group) and 75 eyes of 75 patients without any scar (control group) were included.

Purpose: To evaluate the results of surgery involving the union of the superior rectus muscle and the lateral rectus muscle with or without medial rectus recession (MRc) for the treatment of high myopic strabismus fixus over a 20-year period.

Methods: The medical records of patients who underwent muscle belly union for the treatment of high myopic strabismus fixus were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were classified according to the timing of MRc.

An algorithm for Botulinum toxin A injection for upper eyelid retraction associated with thyroid eye disease: long-term results.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and complications of transconjunctival Botulinum toxin A injections performed according to an algorithm, for the management of upper eyelid retraction associated with thyroid eye disease.

Methods: Seventy one eyes of 60 patients at the inactive stage, who had undergone Botulinum toxin A injection were reviewed retrospectively. Botulinum toxin A was injected transconjunctivally, just above the superior tarsal border of the upper eyelid in doses between 2-15 units according to an algorithm, depending on the amount of retraction.

Short and long term outcomes after small-incision lenticule extraction: A tertiary referral centre experience.

Purpose: The objective of this study is to evaluate the preoperative and short- and long-term postoperative results in terms of visual acuity, refractive error, and corneal wavefront aberrations in patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism undergoing small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).

Methods: Seventy-nine eyes of 52 myopes with or without astigmatism (41 right and 38 left) were enrolled in this retrospective study. The measurements included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), spherical equivalent (SE) and wavefront aberrations.

The efficacy of low vision aids with contact lenses in pediatric population.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of contact lens use with low vision aids (LVA) with the efficacy of spectacle use with low vision aids.

Methods: Thirty-six pediatric patients with low vision were enrolled in this study between January 2015 and March 2017. The patients were examined for best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with spectacles, spectacles with LVA, contact lenses and contact lenses with LVA.

Intraocular lens power calculation in a posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implanted eye.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of Eyecryl posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) on axial length measurement and intraocular lens power calculation.

Methods: Axial length (AL), keratometry (K), and IOL power calculations were compared at monthly preoperative and postoperative visits (preoperative vs 1-month). Preoperative IOL power (calculated using preoperative K and AL) was compared with a re-calculation where the pIOL was assumed to be in the posterior chamber (calculated using preoperative K value and postoperative AL).

Accelerated corneal crosslinking in children with keratoconus: 5-year results and comparison of 2 protocols.

Aripiprazole-Induced Acute Transient Bilateral Myopia: A Case Report.

Aripiprazole is an atypical, antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder in adults. There are a few reports in the literature of ocular side effects of aripiprazole, such as transient myopia, diplopia, and acute angle closure. This report describes the case of a 34-year-old female patient who was referred to the clinic with painless blurred vision in both eyes.
