Background: Breast cancer screening with dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) is recommended for high-risk women but has limitations, including variable specificity and difficulty in distinguishing cancerous (CL) and high-risk benign lesions (HRBL) from average-risk benign lesions (ARBL). Complementary non-invasive imaging techniques would be useful to improve specificity.
Purpose: To evaluate the performance of a previously-developed breast-specific diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) model (BS-RSI3C) to improve discrimination between CL, HRBL, and ARBL in an enriched screening population.

The "International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Guidelines for the Evaluation and Care of Cardiac Transplant Candidates-2024" updates and replaces the "Listing Criteria for Heart Transplantation: International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Guidelines for the Care of Cardiac Transplant Candidates-2006" and the "2016 International Society for Heart Lung Transplantation Listing Criteria for Heart Transplantation: A 10-year Update." The document aims to provide tools to help integrate the numerous variables involved in evaluating patients for transplantation, emphasizing updating the collaborative treatment while waiting for a transplant. There have been significant practice-changing developments in the care of heart transplant recipients since the publication of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) guidelines in 2006 and the 10-year update in 2016.

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Blood donors are an apparently healthy population in which certain cardiometabolic characteristics are not evaluated in their selection, and there is limited information on their presence.
Aim: To determine the frequency of metabolic syndrome and its metabolic characteristics in blood donors.

Background: Catheter ablation and antiarrhythmic drug therapy are utilized for rhythm control in atrial fibrillation (AF), but their comparative effectiveness, especially with contemporary treatment modalities, remains undefined. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis contrasting current ablation techniques against antiarrhythmic medications for AF.
Methods: We searched PubMed, SCOPUS, Cochrane CENTRAL, and Web of Science until November 2023 for randomized trials comparing AF catheter ablation with antiarrhythmics, against antiarrhythmic drug therapy alone, reporting outcomes for > 6 months.

The aim of this short narrative review was to evaluate the existing literature regarding the clinical use of ketamine among individuals with dementia, especially those with behavioral disturbances. PubMed, Cochrane, and Ovid (Embase, APA PsycINFO, and MEDLINE) databases were searched for abstracts using the search terms "ketamine" AND "dementia." Only articles describing the use of ketamine in individuals with dementia were included.

Health profession educators readily identify with the goal of fostering healthcare providers who are critical thinkers focused on quality patient care. In the following paper, we aim to delve into critical thinking at the team level and help educators begin the process of creating a shared mental model focusing on cognition to identify gaps and opportunities for growth in their trainees. We will distinguish between microcognition (an individual's own critical thinking process in a controlled environment), macrocognition (critical thinking process in a real-world environment), and team cognition (the interaction and relationship among team members to augment macrocognition).

Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the effect of corona virus 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination on perioperative outcomes after major vascular surgery.
Background Data: COVID-19 vaccination is associated with decreased mortality in patients undergoing various surgical procedures. However, the effect of vaccination on perioperative mortality after major vascular surgery is unknown.

Background And Aims: There are a limited number of pharmacologic therapies for coronary artery disease, and few rodent models of occlusive coronary atherosclerosis and consequent myocardial infarction with which one can rapidly test new therapeutic approaches. Here, we characterize a novel, fertile, and easy-to-use HDL receptor (SR-B1)-based model of atherogenic diet-inducible, fatal coronary atherosclerosis, the SR-B1ΔCT/LDLR KO mouse. Additionally, we test intramyocardial injection of Stromal Cell-Derived Factor-1 alpha (SDF-1α), a potent angiogenic cytokine, as a possible therapy to rescue cardiac function in this mouse.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the utility of an Observation Unit (OU) in management of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) and to identify the clinical characteristics of patients readmitted within 30-days for AECOPD following index admission to the OU or inpatient floor from the OU.
Methods: This is a retrospective observational study of patients admitted from January to December 2017 for AECOPD to an OU in an urban-based tertiary care hospital. Primary outcome was rate of 30-day readmission after admission for AECOPD for patients discharged from the OU versus inpatient service after failing OU management.

Introduction: Higher blood pressure (BP) is considered to be detrimental in patients who undergo mechanical thrombectomy (MT), however, the impact of BP post-MT based on comorbidities like anemia has not been well studied. We aim to determine the association of 24-h post-MT BP parameters with clinical outcomes depending on their anemia status.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent MT at a comprehensive stroke center from 1/2015 to 12/2020.

Objective: Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in developed countries. We examined whether physical activity (PA) is related to asthma control and body mass index (BMI) in asthma patients.
Methods: Cross-sectional data collected on PA (ActiGraph GT3X-BT), asthma control (the Asthma Control Questionnaire; ACQ), and BMI were examined in 206 adults (mean[sd] age 47.

Palliative care social workers are trained to identify how trauma manifests over the course of serious and chronic illness. This expertise can guide patients and team members to ensure a trauma-informed experience of care. This paper identifies the growth of outpatient palliative care clinics as an opportunity for palliative care social workers to emphasize this clinical skill set and assume a leadership role in the implementation of trauma-informed practices early in the trajectory of serious illness.

Coexisting serious illness and posttraumatic stress place hospitalized individuals at risk for complex pain, anxiety, and retraumatization. Hospital palliative care social workers increasingly recognize the value of trauma-informed care (TIC) for reducing harm in the inpatient setting. Despite this recognition, there is limited operationalization of TIC principles for inpatient interventions.

Background: Neonatal encephalopathy (NE) continues to be a significant risk for death and disability. To address this risk, regional guidelines were developed with the support of a malpractice insurance patient safety organization. A NE registry was also established to include 14 centers representing around 50% of deliveries in the state of Massachusetts.

Introduction: Left bundle branch area pacing (LBBP) is a novel conduction system pacing method to achieve effective physiological pacing and an alternative to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) with biventricular pacing (BVP) for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). We conduted this meta-analysis and systemic review to review current data comparing BVP and LBBP in patients with HFrEF and indications for CRT.
Methods: We searched PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from the inception of the database to November 2022.

Emergency department (ED) crowding poses significant operational challenges to hospitals. One strategy to address these issues is the implementation of an ED observation (EDO) unit. EDO involves placing patients in observation status after their initial evaluation, allowing for continued assessment, treatment, and the determination of a safe disposition.
