Introduction: Hip hemiarthroplasty is a surgical procedure that requires the adhesion of the prosthetic implant by utilizing a fixation technique, either cemented or noncemented. The current literature does not provide a clear recommendation on a superior technique, although many countries outside the US have guidelines recommending cemented over noncemented procedures. Further, surgeon perceptions and beliefs related to the cemented and noncemented techniques in hip arthroplasty fractures are generally unknown.

Though advancements have been made in the pharmacologic treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG), surgical resection is not only an option as a last line of defense for those patients who do not respond to medical therapy but also remains vital for those with thymic epithelial tumors (TET). While prior studies have shown the potential superiority of minimally invasive approaches via robotic- and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS/VATS) for thymectomy compared to open surgery, in the setting of malignancies, this outcome delineation is controversial. As RATS/VATS may be associated with less post-operative complications in the treatment of TET, some surgeons argue that the open approach is necessary for complete resection (R0 resection) and to prevent potential seeding of the malignancy.

Managing patients with severe fixation of intra-abdominal contents, known as frozen abdomen, often creates a vicious cycle of tissue injury that further prolongs open abdomen resolution. We share the management course of a 28-year-old male status post motor vehicle accident with traumatic pancreatitis and complex liver injury. Following multiple laparotomies for abdominal wash out, he developed a frozen abdomen and an entero-atmospheric fistula (EAF) through granulated bowel.

Objective: Weight bias is pervasive in healthcare and leads to worse patient outcomes. A uniquely designed 4-h continuing medical education (CME) intervention was assessed for changing healthcare professionals' (HCPs') weight biases and clinical practice behaviors.
Design: The intervention used a (1) pre/post design examining CME attendees' self-reported weight bias at baseline, after, and 4- and 12-month follow-up, and (2) post/post design examining obesity practice behaviors 12 months after intervention in attendees and non-attendees.

Background: The management of incidental pulmonary nodules is guided by recommendations set forth by the Fleischner Society. While most pulmonary nodules are benign, timely and evidence-based follow-up can reduce morbidity and mortality. There are known socioeconomic disparities for engagement with recommended cancer screenings, however it is unclear whether disparities exist for follow-up of incidentally detected pulmonary lesions.

Venous thromboembolism (VT) is a frequent (annual incidence of 1 to 2 per 1,000) and potentially life-threatening (case-fatality rate up to 10%) disease. VT is associated with serious short-term and long-term complications including a recurrence rate of approximately 20% within five years. Anticoagulant therapy, the mainstay of VT treatment, drastically reduces the risk of early VT recurrence, but it exposes patients to a substantial risk of bleeding.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility and prognosis vary by race and ethnicity in the USA. MS incidence is highest in Black individuals and, among individuals under the age of 35, so is the prevalence. Although MS incidence and prevalence is lower among Hispanic and particularly Asian/Pacific Islands compared to White people, among Hispanic and White people under the age of 25, the prevalence is similar.

The diagnosis and management of hypertension have been based primarily on blood pressure (BP) measurement in the office setting. Higher out-of-office BP is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, independent of office BP. Home BP monitoring (HBPM) consists of the measurement of BP by a person outside of the office at home and is a validated approach for out-of-office BP measurement.

Importance: Medicare finances health care for most US patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), regardless of age. Medicare enrollment may have slowed for patients with incident ESKD who gained access to new private insurance options with the 2014 passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and introduction of the ACA Marketplace.
Objective: To describe trends in public and private insurance coverage and dialysis spending among patients with incident ESKD from 2012 to 2017.
Background: Peyronie's disease (PD) is a progressive fibrotic disorder of the penis that can induce pain and erectile dysfunction and has various treatment modalities, including surgical, pharmaceutical, and injection therapies.
Methods: The authors used electronic medical records from Kaiser Permanente Southern California, an integrated health care system that consists of 15 medical centers, and identified patients diagnosed with stable PD without concomitant erectile dysfunction from January 1, 2004, to December 31, 2020. Baseline characteristics between surgical and injection groups were compared using Chi-squared and Kruskal-Wallis tests.
Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic forced a rapid shift toward virtual modalities for the treatment of depression in primary care.
Methods: Participants were adults 18 years and older with a new episode of depression diagnosed in primary care between March 1, 2020, and May 21, 2021, and moderate-to-severe symptoms of depression at the time of diagnosis (N = 9619). Outcomes were 1) antidepressant medications prescribed and dispensed (referred to as received), as well as adherence to those medications; 2) referrals made to depression-related services and the receipt of those services; and 3) a follow-up visit completed with the diagnosing practitioner regardless of treatment actions.
