Background: Patients with venous leg ulcers (VLUs) often carry out inadequate self-care. Person-centered care is recommended as effective support. Understanding the illness trajectory from the patient's perspective could be a way to better understand patients' needs.

Immersive interfaces for clinical applications: current status and future perspective.

Digital immersive technologies have become increasingly prominent in clinical research and practice, including medical communication and technical education, serious games for health, psychotherapy, and interfaces for neurorehabilitation. The worldwide enthusiasm for digital health and digital therapeutics has prompted the development and testing of numerous applications and interaction methods. Nevertheless, the lack of consistency in the approaches and the peculiarity of the constructed environments contribute to an increasing disparity between the eagerness for new immersive designs and the long-term clinical adoption of these technologies.

Analysis of health recommendations using longitudinal quality of life data: QoL@TbA - A transformer-based approach.

Health recommendation systems suggest behavioral modifications to improve quality of life. However, current approaches do not facilitate the generation or examination of such recommendations considering the multifeature longitudinal evolution of behaviors. This paper proposes the use of a deep learning transformer-based model that allows the analysis of recommendations for behavior changes.

Usability Evaluation in a Remote Access Scenario.

We present an approach to use the think aloud method for formative usability evaluation for medical software in a remote access scenario which combines researchers in two different locations and test persons distributed across five Swiss hospitals into one study using MS-Teams. We could show that a) these tests can be performed remote in a tight time schedule and b) that results valuable for the formative development of the examined mockup solution could be achieved. Two sessions had to be rescheduled for technical problems but all test persons could complete the think aloud study in 30 minutes at their usual working environment.

Towards a new PhD Curriculum for Digital Finance.

The rapidly evolving field of Digital Finance necessitates a new, interdisciplinary approach to doctoral training. This manuscript presents a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip early-stage researchers with the skills and knowledge required to navigate the complexities of modern finance. The curriculum is structured around four pillars: Training through Research and Mandatory Scientific Training, Advanced Scientific Training, Transferable Skills Training, and Training through Secondments.

The challenge of measuring physiological parameters during motor imagery engagement in patients after a stroke.

Introduction: It is suggested that eye movement recordings could be used as an objective evaluation method of motor imagery (MI) engagement. Our investigation aimed to evaluate MI engagement in patients after stroke (PaS) compared with physical execution (PE) of a clinically relevant unilateral upper limb movement task of the patients' affected body side.

Methods: In total, 21 PaS fulfilled the MI ability evaluation [Kinaesthetic and Visual Imagery Questionnaire (KVIQ-10), body rotation task (BRT), and mental chronometry task (MC)].

The performance of serious games for enhancing attention in cognitively impaired older adults.

Attention, which is the process of noticing the surrounding environment and processing information, is one of the cognitive functions that deteriorate gradually as people grow older. Games that are used for other than entertainment, such as improving attention, are often referred to as serious games. This study examined the effectiveness of serious games on attention among elderly individuals suffering from cognitive impairment.

Physical activity based on daily step-count in inpatient setting in stroke and traumatic brain injury patients in subacute stage: A cross-sectional observational study.

Background: Daily step-count is important post-insult in the subacute phase to influence neuroplasticity, functional recovery and as a predictive factor for activity level one-year post event.

Objective: Measure daily step-count in subacute patients follow-ing brain injury in an inpatient neurorehabilitation setting and compare these to evi-dence-based recommendations.

Methods: 30 participants measured of daily step-count over a seven-day period, throughout the day to assess when and how activity varied.

Pain responses in preterm infants and parental stress over repeated painful procedures: a randomized pilot trial.

Objectives: In this pilot study, the aims were to determine the feasibility of whether pain behavior in extremely and very preterm infants and perceived parental stress change when parents are involved in pain reducing measures, either actively, performing facilitated tucking or passively, observing the intervention, in comparison to the involvement of nurses only. In addition, the infant's pain reactivity and parental stress over three time points of measurement was of interest.

Background: Anxiety and depression are the most common mental disorders worldwide. Owing to the lack of psychiatrists around the world, the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) into wearable devices (wearable AI) has been exploited to provide mental health services.

Objective: This review aimed to explore the features of wearable AI used for anxiety and depression to identify application areas and open research issues.

One of the challenges in substituting dairy products by alternative proteins is that the properties of mixed protein gels cannot necessarily be predicted by those of single protein gels, whereas the need of mixing is often driven by nutritional aspects. The impact of seat height on 1-min sit-to-stand test performance in COPD: a randomised crossover trial.

Study Question: Is there a difference in the number of repetitions in the 1-minute sit-to-stand (1MSTS) test using an individually adapted seat height to 90° knee flexion (1MSTS), compared with the commonly used standard chair seat height of 46 cm (1MSTS), in people with COPD?

Methods: We conducted a single-centre, single-blinded, randomised crossover trial in people with COPD between August 2020 and March 2021 at a specialised rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland. After a learning 1MSTS test, all participants performed two 1MSTS tests in random order on consecutive days. Participants were blinded, as they did not receive detailed information on the testing protocols.

Significance: Refractive surgery in ophthalmology uses pulsed lasers at 193, 210, or 213 nm. The reason is that most molecular constituents of cornea absorb strongly in this wavelength range. Comparative Cost Analysis of Four Different Computer-Assisted Technologies to Implant a Total Knee Arthroplasty over Conventional Instrumentation.

Several computer-assisted technologies, such as navigation and robotics, have been introduced to Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in order to increase surgical precision and reduce complications. However, these technologies are often criticized due to the increased costs and effort associated with them; however, comparative data are missing. The aim of the present study was to evaluate differences in intraoperative workflows and the related perioperative cost-profiles of four current computer-assisted technologies, used to implant a TKA, in order to gain a comparison to conventional instrumentation.

Failing livers, anticipated futures and un/desired transplants.

This article looks at liver transplants as life-prolonging treatment for chronic liver failure and examines the role anticipation plays in the context of chronic liver conditions. Based on anthropological fieldwork in Germany, this article draws on three exemplary patient accounts to show how the anticipatory experience of waiting for a liver transplant serves as an important period in transplant trajectories, and how the lack of a wait may have long-term consequences for patients' wellbeing. A focus on waiting and anticipation in the context of chronic livers enables new understandings of the complex temporal qualities that living with chronic conditions entails.
