In recent years, plague has re-emerged in several countries around the world and remains endemic in some regions. In a natural environment and in contact with rodents and their fleas, stray carnivores are most at risk of catching the disease and maintaining the spread of the bacillus. The present study aimed to demonstrate the presence or absence of in stray dogs and cats in the Algiers region by molecular methods and thus determine their role in epidemiology of this disease.

Ancient DNA research in the past decade has revealed that European population structure changed dramatically in the prehistoric period (14,000-3000 years before present, YBP), reflecting the widespread introduction of Neolithic farmer and Bronze Age Steppe ancestries. However, little is known about how population structure changed from the historical period onward (3000 YBP - present). To address this, we collected whole genomes from 204 individuals from Europe and the Mediterranean, many of which are the first historical period genomes from their region (e.

The Iron Age was a dynamic period in central Mediterranean history, with the expansion of Greek and Phoenician colonies and the growth of Carthage into the dominant maritime power of the Mediterranean. These events were facilitated by the ease of long-distance travel following major advances in seafaring. We know from the archaeological record that trade goods and materials were moving across great distances in unprecedented quantities, but it is unclear how these patterns correlate with human mobility.

Article Synopsis
  • Typical hyper-IgE syndromes (HIES) are linked to genetic variants in STAT3, IL6ST, or ZNF341, with only 20 patients reported with autosomal-recessive ZNF341 deficiency.
  • Patients with this deficiency show milder symptoms and lower NK cell counts compared to those with dominant STAT3 deficiency, despite having 50% normal STAT3 levels.
  • The review discusses the limited understanding of ZNF341's role and how the combination of reduced STAT3 levels and impaired autoinduction in ZNF341-deficient cells may contribute to their symptoms.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a relapsing-remitting inflammatory bowel disease with a progressive course. The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between nitric oxide (NO), pro-inflammatory cytokines, and blood count-based ratios in patients with complicated Crohn's disease as well as the outcome of corticosteroid or anti-TNF-α therapy. In this context, we evaluated the NLR as the ratio of neutrophils count to lymphocytes count, PLR as the ratio of platelets count to lymphocytes count, and MLR as the ratio of monocytes count to lymphocytes count in patients and controls.

LMMA-Laboratory of Algerian Metallogeny and Magmatism, Department of Geology, Faculty of Earth Sciences, University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediene-USTHB, BP 32 El Alia, Bab Ezzouar, 16011, Algiers, Algeria.

Heavy metal and arsenic pollution of soil remains a serious environmental problem long after mining operations have ended. For instance, the Tamesguida copper mine located in north-central Algeria has been abandoned for several decades without restoration or even an environmental impact assessment. Therefore, soils were collected from several locations in the vicinity of the old mine and tailings and analyzed for their Cu, Cr, As, Pb, Ni, Zn, and Fe rates to gauge the scope of the soil contamination caused by these elements, and assessing their origin and their dispersion in the mine area.

Segmentation of brain tumor images, to refine the detection and understanding of abnormal masses in the brain, is an important research topic in medical imaging. This paper proposes a new segmentation method, consisting of three main steps, to detect brain lesions using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the first step, the parts of the image delineating the skull bone are removed, to exclude insignificant data.

X-linked severe combined immunodeficiency (X-SCID) is caused by mutations of , the gene encoding the interleukin common gamma chain (IL-2Rγ or γc) of cytokine receptors for interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, IL-15, and IL-21. Hypomorphic mutations of may cause combined immunodeficiencies with atypical clinical and immunological presentations. Here, we report a clinical, immunological, and functional characterization of a missense mutation in exon 1 (c.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how type 2 diabetes (T2DM) affects left ventricular (LV) geometry and subclinical dysfunction in patients with high blood pressure (HBP) who have normal heart function.
  • Among 200 HBP patients with a mean age of 61.7 years, those with T2DM exhibited increased body mass index, higher blood pressure, and worse LV indicators compared to those without T2DM.
  • The findings suggest that T2DM significantly worsens LV function and geometry, indicating the need for preventive measures to manage body weight and reduce diabetes risk in hypertensive patients.
