Some ovarian mucinous tumors are thought to originate from Brenner tumors and teratomas; however, data are limited on what could be the origin for the remaining tumors. We report a new case of ovarian mucinous borderline tumor/atypical proliferative mucinous tumor (MBT/APMT) co-existing with a mesonephric-like proliferation (MLP)/mesonephric-like hyperplasia (MLH). The patient was a 58-year-old woman who presented with a pelvic mass and abdominal pain.

About 1% of childhood tumors can be malignant ovarian tumors and differential diagnosis with benign ones is sometimes difficult before surgery. Concerning the management of such tumors in adolescents for which future fertility is a concern, there is specific interest in their malignant potential and the possible use of ovarian-sparing operative techniques, as well the suitability of chemotherapy. To exemplify the difficulties of preoperative differential diagnosis, personalized approach and the difficulties of deciding to preserve the affected ovary, we report a rare case of a 14-year-old female adolescent with a growing abdominal painless mass and without any other chronic diseases.

Isolated metastases from non-gynecological cancers to the fallopian tube are rare. Recent literature suggests that mucosal alterations of the fallopian tube should be considered primary tubal lesions. This has led to a paradigm shift in the classification of ovarian tumors with studies proposing tubal origin for these tumors, and clinicians advocating distal salpingectomy to decrease rates of ovarian cancer.

Background: High-grade pelvic serous carcinoma is a common cause of death in women worldwide and India. Recent evidence has clearly implicated the changes in the mucosa of the fimbrial end of the fallopian tube in its pathogenesis.

Objective: 1) To study histopathology features of surgically resected specimens of fallopian tubes received with non-neoplastic lesions of the uterus and ovary for the presence of any precursor lesions [secretory cell outgrowth (SCOUT), serous tubal intraepithelial lesion (STIL), p53 signatures, and serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC)].

Purpose: Cystadenofibroma (CAF) is a rare tumour of the ovary that can be confused with a borderline or malignant lesion due to its morphological characteristics. The study aims to analyse the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) features of histologically proven ovarian cystadenofibromas according to lexicon-based and O-RADS (Ovarian-Adnexal Reporting and Data System) descriptors, with particular attention to time-intensity curves (TIC) and Diffusion-Weighted sequences (DWI); we also wanted to test the performance of O-RADS MRI risk stratification system in this particular subgroup of patients.

Methods: We have included all patients who performed MR between October 2019 and December 2021 after an inconclusive trans-vaginal ultrasound.

Microcystic stromal tumors (MCSTs) of the ovary are rare sex cord-stromal tumors that are considered benign neoplasms because almost all cases display unilateral, localized lesions and have benign outcomes, except for one recurrent case with familial adenomatous polyposis and another initial metastatic case with a CTNNB1 mutation. We report herein a sporadic case that relapsed as intra-abdominal spread 9 years and 1 month after primary left salpingo-oophorectomy for torsion of the ovarian tumor pedicle. The tumor relapsed as multiple disseminations at the subabdominal wall, Douglas pouch, and omentum.

Sebaceous adenoma occurring within an intracranial dermoid cyst.

Neuropathology

August 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, Academic Assembly, University of Toyama, Toyama, Japan.

Among intracranial cystic lesions, dermoid cysts and epidermoid cysts are relatively common benign tumors. In a small number of these tumors, it is known that squamous cell carcinomas arise in the lining epithelium of the cysts. Among tumors derived from the appendage, only one case of hidradenoma within a dermoid cyst and no cases of sebaceous tumor have been reported previously.

The main objective in the imaging differential diagnosis of an ovarian mass is to establish whether it is cystic or solid; solid lesions are less common. Ovarian fibromatosis is a benign disease of the ovary that is rarely included in the differential diagnosis of solid ovarian lesions. Characteristic features of masses that have a fibrous component are low signal in T1-weighted MRI sequences and especially in T2-weighted MRI sequences.

The literature indicates that mesonephric carcinoma (MC) and mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) typically lack mucinous and squamous features/differentiation. We report 4 cases of ovarian mucinous tumors (1 mucinous cystadenofibroma and 3 mucinous borderline tumors/atypical proliferative mucinous tumors [MBT/APMT]) co-existing with mesonephric-like lesions which were highlighted by Gata3 and Pax8 expression. All cases contained benign mesonephric-like proliferations (MLP) which focally displayed gastrointestinal-type mucinous metaplasia/differentiation and some were intimately admixed with mucinous glands associated with the mucinous tumor.

Endometriosis in para-aortic lymph node resembling a malignancy: a case report and literature review.

BMC Womens Health

April 2022

Department of Gynecology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, No. 1 Youyi Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400016, People's Republic of China.

Background: Endometriosis is a common benign gynecological disease characterized by growing-functioning endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Extra-pelvic endometriosis, which accounts for approximately 12% of endometriosis, is more challenging to diagnose because of its distance from the pelvic organs. Halban's theory of benign metastasis indicates that endometrial cells can appear in extra-pelvic organs via lymphatic and blood vessels, but endometrial lymph node metastasis cases are still rare.
