Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at a scoring system called O-RADS that helps doctors decide how serious ovarian cysts are before surgery.
  • Researchers found that many patients who had surgery did not have serious problems and could have avoided it if the O-RADS system had been used.
  • Almost 42% of the patients’ lesions scored low on the O-RADS scale, suggesting they were probably not harmful, meaning doctors could monitor them instead of performing surgery.

Aims: Recently, SOX17 has emerged as a promising biomarker for non-mucinous Müllerian (ovarian and endometrial) carcinomas, demonstrating increased specificity in comparison to PAX8 while maintaining similar sensitivity. However, expression of SOX17 in mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA), a carcinoma of the female genital tract with uncertain, but probably Müllerian histogenesis, remains unexplored. This study aims to address this gap.

The risk of malignancy in nonvisualized ovaries on pelvic ultrasound is presumed to be close to zero per imaging correlation; the goal of this manuscript is to define the risk of malignancy in nonvisualized ovaries on pelvic ultrasound as defined by surgical pathology. Records for patients with pelvic ultrasound and surgical pathology containing the word "ovary" or "ovaries" performed at our institution between 10/1/2015 and 9/30/2021 were reviewed. Data for ovarian visualization were extracted from the radiology report and correlated with surgical pathology results within each ovary.

Background: Primary carcinoma of the ovary (OCs) are responsible for a significant number of deaths related to cancer, and have the highest rate of death related to cancers of the female reproductive organs. Programmed cell death 1 (PD1) protein, acts as an immune checkpoint, and has an important role in the down-regulation of the immune system by preventing the activation of T-cells, which will weaken the autoimmunity and increases self-tolerance. This study aimed at the evaluation of the immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of PD-L1 in various primary surface ovarian epithelial tumours and to test its correlation with different clinicopathological parameters together with the expression of a panel of P53, ER and PR.

Endometriosis is a common condition, with the ovary being the most common anatomic site. Endometriosis-particularly in the ovary-is associated with a risk of malignant progression, with a histologic spectrum of lesions from benign to malignant. Recently, a panel of 3 markers consisting of β-catenin, PAX2, and PTEN has been described as a potentially useful diagnostic adjunct in the diagnosis of intrauterine endometrioid neoplasia, where aberrancy for one or more of the markers is strongly associated with neoplasia.
