Background: In the rat knee stiffness model, the duration of traction treatment is mostly 20-40 min; however, relatively few studies have been conducted on longer traction treatment of extended knee stiffness in rats. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the efficacy of prolonged traction and its mechanism of action in extended knee stiffness in rats.

Methods: The model of extended knee joint stiffness was established in rats and treated with powered flexion position traction.

Development and validation of a preoperative systemic inflammation-based nomogram for predicting surgical site infection in patients with colorectal cancer.

Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) represents a significant postoperative complication in colorectal cancer (CRC). Identifying associated factors is therefore critical. We evaluated the predictive value of clinicopathological features and inflammation-based prognostic scores (IBPSs) for SSI occurrence in CRC patients.

Adipocyte-derived CXCL10 in obesity promotes the migration and invasion of ovarian cancer cells.

Background: As a widespread epidemic, obesity poses a significant risk to health and leads to physiological abnormalities, including diabetes mellitus and inflammation. Obesity-induced inflammation can accelerate the development of various cancers; however, the role of obesity in the migration of ovarian carcinoma is still unclear.

Results: Twenty-four commonly upregulated genes were identified from single-cell RNA sequencing datasets of both ovarian carcinoma and adipose tissue of obese humans, with the chemokine CXCL10 showing a significant increase in adipose tissues associated with obesity.

Directly anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty with an acetabular structural bone graft for developmental dysplasia of the hip (Crowe III and IV): a concise 5-year follow-up evaluation.

Background: This study evaluated the results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) via the direct anterior approach (DAA) in the lateral decubitus position combined with acetabular reconstruction via a bulk autograft for patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (Crowe III and IV).

Patients And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to analyse 16 patients (16 hips) with Crowe type III and IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) who underwent THA from June 2016 to July 2021. We recorded and analysed variables such as age, sex, height, body mass index (BMI), length of surgical incision, duration of surgery, intraoperative blood loss, Harris hip score, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, lower limb length, and pelvic radiograph analysis.

Development of a risk prediction model for personalized assessment of postoperative recurrence risk in colon cancer patients.

Background: Colon cancer, a significant contributor to cancer-related mortality worldwide, exhibits a high recurrence rate in patients following surgical intervention, particularly when the disease has progressed to intermediate or advanced stages. This study undertakes a comprehensive analysis of the risk factors influencing postoperative recurrence in patients with middle- to late-stage colon cancer and subsequently develops a columnar graphical prediction model based on these findings. This model seeks to enhance the capability of identifying the risk of postoperative recurrence in patients with intermediate and advanced colon cancer, thereby providing a scientific foundation for the development of more personalized and effective prevention and management strategies.

Background: Busulfan is the most commonly used drug for the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia and pretreatment for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which can damage the reproductive and immune system. However, little is known about the protein expression profiling in busulfan treated testis.

Methods: This research studies the proteomics for busulfan-induced spermatogenesis disorder.

Evaluation of the effect of DRG payment policy based on interrupted time series modeling: evidence from a tertiary hospital in Anhui Province.

Background: The payment methodology for diagnosis-related groups (DRG) has implications for both society and medical institutions. Our study aims to analyse the impact of the reform of the payment policy according to the DRG on the operation of a tertiary hospital in Anhui Province.

Methods: Monthly data were collected from April 2020 to September 2023 during the reform period for a tertiary hospital on nine types of operational indicators, including average length of stay (ALOS), number of discharges, number of outpatient visits, percentage of discharged patients undergoing level III or IV surgery, bed turnover rate, inpatient essential drug utilization rate, low-risk group mortality, outpatient subaverage cost and inpatient subaverage cost.

Sinomenine hydrochloride improves DSS-induced colitis in mice through inhibition of the Notch signaling pathway.

Objective: To study the therapeutic effect of sinomenine hydrochloride (SH) on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in mice as an animal model and the changes of Notch signaling pathway in colon tissue of mice after treatment.

Methods: Twenty-four mice were randomly divided into control group, model group, SH low-dose group (20 mg/kg) and SH high-dose group (60 mg/kg), with 6 mice in each group. Disease activity index (DAI), colonic mucosal injury index and colonic histopathological score were calculated.

Evaluation of gecacitinib vs hydroxyurea in patients with intermediate-2 or high-risk myelofibrosis: final analysis results from a randomized phase 3 study.

To compare the efficacy and safety of gecacitinib (also known as jaktinib) with hydroxyurea (HU) in treating myelofibrosis (MF) patients. In this multicenter, randomized phase 3 trial (ZGJAK016), intermediate- or high-risk primarily JAK inhibitor naïve MF patients were assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive either gecacitinib (100 mg twice a day, BID) or HU (500 mg BID). The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with ≥35% reduction in spleen volume (SVR35) from baseline at week 24.

Global research trends in therapeutic drug monitoring of antimicrobials from 2000 to 2023: a bibliometric analysis.

Objective: The practice of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is widely used for maximizing the clinical efficacy of antimicrobials. However, a systematic bibliometric analysis providing an overview of this field is lacking at present. The aim of the current study was to identify hotspots and trends in antimicrobial TDM, highlight collaborations and influences among countries, institutions, and journals, and assess the knowledge base for further development of clinical research.

Bacterial infections cause high morbidity and mortality worldwide, and the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria further complicates the treatment of infections. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously develop new treatment methods. Polymyxin B (PMB), as the last line of defense, can combat most aerobic Gram-negative bacilli including common drug-resistant bacteria in clinical practice.

To evaluate the clinical outcomes of combined complete preservation of chordal structure mitral valve replacement (C-MVR) with total anatomical arterial myocardial revascularization (TACR) in coronary patients with moderate-to-severe or severe ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR). This is a retrospective multi-center case series study. Data were retrospectively collected from 127 patients with coronary artery disease with moderate to severe or severe IMR who received TACR with C-MVR from July 2015 to April 2024 in 13 hospitals in China.

Metformin-induced RBMS3 expression enhances ferroptosis and suppresses ovarian cancer progression.

Metformin (Met), a widely used type II diabetes medication, has shown anti-cancer properties in various cancers. RBMS3 is a tumor suppressor implicated in several cancers, including ovarian cancer. Ferroptosis, a novel form of programmed cell death, is gaining attention in cancer research.

Efficacy and safety of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation in patients with constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome: a single-center, single-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is a promising therapy for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This clinical trial aims to evaluate the influence of taVNS on autonomic functions, rectal sensation, and acetylcholine (Ach) levels and to explore potential mechanisms involving gut microbiota and metabolic profiles.

Methods: This study was a single-center, single-blind, randomized controlled trial executed at the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Anhui, China.

Causal relationship between immune cells and periodontitis: A Mendelian randomization study.

This study employed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore potential causal relationships between 731 immune cell subtypes and periodontitis. Utilizing a 2-sample MR design, our study delved into the diverse landscape of immune cell interactions with periodontitis-associated factors. Multiple MR methods, including inverse variance weighting, weighted median, and MR-Egger tests, were employed to ensure reliability and mitigate potential pleiotropic effects.

Spop deficiency impairs adipogenesis and promotes thermogenic capacity in mice.

As the adaptor protein that determines substrate specificity of the Cul3-SPOP-Rbx1 E3 ligase complex, SPOP is involved in numerous biological processes. However, its physiological connections with adipogenesis and thermogenesis remain poorly understood. In the current study, we report that the conditional knockout of Spop in mice results in substantial changes in protein expression, including the upregulation of a critical factor associated with thermogenesis, UCP1.

Effectiveness and safety of Belimumab and Telitacicept in systemic lupus erythematosus: a real-world, retrospective, observational study.

Objective: To examine the effectiveness and safety of two different B cell activating factor/proliferation-inducing ligand inhibitors, telitacicept and belimumab, in treating patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: Patients with active SLE who received belimumab (n = 100) or telitacicept (n = 101) from 2019 to 2023 at multiple centers in China were retrospectively collected, and the effectiveness and safety of telitacicept and belimumab was evaluated. The subgroups of lupus nephritis and hematologic abnormalities were analyzed to explore if there were any differences in the efficacy of the two biologics on improving kidney and blood systems.

Expression of LncRNAs in anterior capsule of lens in patients with pathologic myopia complicated with cataract.

Purpose: To explore the expressions and functions of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of pathologic myopia complicated with cataract (PMC).

Methods: The anterior capsular tissues were collected from patients with age-related cataract (ARC) and PMC. One group of the samples was used to detected by whole-transcriptome sequencing (LC-Bio, Hangzhou, China) and investigated by GO and KEGG enrichment analysis.

The safety and efficacy of applying a high-current temporal interference electrical stimulation in humans.

Background: Temporal interference electrical stimulation (TI) is promise in targeting deep brain regions focally. However, limited electric field intensity challenges its efficacy.

Objective: This study aimed to introduce a high-current TI electrical stimulation protocol to enhance its intensity and evaluate its safety and efficacy when applied to the primary motor cortex (M1) in the human brain.

Background: Depression is a major global public health concern, with research indicating a correlation between personality traits and depression. This study aimed to explore the potential mediating roles of self-efficacy and walking in the relationship between personality traits and depression among Chinese residents.

Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted from July 10 to September 15, 2021, involving 11,031 Chinese residents across 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 4 municipalities Participants provided data on demographics, personality traits (using the Ten-Item Personality Inventory), self-efficacy (using the New General Self-Efficacy Scale), chronic disease self-management (using the Chronic Disease Self-Management Study Measures), and depression (using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9).

Background: Progress in immunotherapy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has been slow, yet the relationship between microorganisms and metabolites is crucial to PDAC development. This study compares the biliary microbiota and metabolomic profiles of PDAC patients with those of benign pancreatic disease patients to investigate PDAC pathogenesis and its relationship with immunotherapy.

Methods: A total of 27 patients were recruited, including 15 diagnosed with PDAC and 12 with benign pancreaticobiliary conditions, all of whom underwent surgical treatment.

Cephaibol A was isolated from a freshwater fungus Acremonium tubakii BMC-58 extract which composed of 16 amino acids and featuring multiple α-aminoisobutyric acid. We investigated the cytotoxicity of cephaibol A on MDA-MB-231 cells to elucidate its potential antitumor activity and mechanism. The study found that cephaibol A concentration-dependently blocked the cell cycle in S phase and inhibited cell proliferation.

Environmental phenols are a group of typical endocrine disruptors, and widely detectable in human breast milk and infant formulas. However, exposures data are scarce in early infancy, a particularly sensitive period to environmental pollutants exposures. We aimed to prospectively assess urinary concentrations of eighteen environmental phenols in infants from birth to 6 months of age and their associations with feeding patterns (breastfeeding, formula and mixed-feeding).
