Computer tomography findings in necrotizing otitis externa based on the offending pathogens.

Purpose: High-resolution temporal bone computer tomography (HRTBCT) is the most common initial radiological modality used for the assessment of necrotizing otitis externa (NOE).

Objectives: (1) To compare the extension of disease, as seen on HRTBCT, in patients with NOE caused by different pathogens and (2) assess whether radiological findings may suggest the offending pathogen in cases of sterile-NOE.

Methods: All NOE patients were hospitalized between 1990 and 2018.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the incidence of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) in term and near-term infants who fail hearing screen (target screening), the incidence of congenital CMV infections in infants born before 33 weeks of gestation (universal screening) and the incidence of infants who need pharmacologic treatment for congenital CMV associated sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). We report here the draft genome sequence of MAA2018. This highly virulent strain was isolated in 2018 from the first melioidosis case in Israel associated with recreational travel to Goa, India.

Impact of Stressful Events on Motivations, Self-Efficacy, and Development of Post-Traumatic Symptoms among Youth Volunteers in Emergency Medical Services.

During the last decades, Israeli emergency medical services (EMS) personnel has been exposed to different potentially traumatic events, including mass terror attacks. The aims of the present study were to identify how potentially traumatic events affect young volunteers in their motivation to volunteer and their perceived self-efficacy while being at risk of developing post-traumatic symptoms. The final sample included 236 Magen David Adom (MDA, the "Israeli Red Cross") youth volunteers.

Sustained protein synthesis and reduced eEF2K levels in TAp73 mice brain: a possible compensatory mechanism.

The transcription factor p73 is a member of the p53 family, of which the transactivation domain containing isoform (TAp73) plays key roles in brain development and neuronal stem cells. TAp73 also facilitates homoeostasis and prevents oxidative damage in vivo by inducing the expression of its target genes. Objective: Necrotising otitis externa is a severe inflammatory process affecting soft tissue and bone, mostly in diabetic patients. Diabetic patients are also at risk of diabetic foot osteomyelitis, another inflammatory condition involving soft tissue and bone. This review aimed to describe the similarities and differences of these entities in an attempt to further advance the management of necrotising otitis externa.

We examined whether misattribution is moderated by the applicability of a distractor to the judgment question.

Treating Anthrax-Induced Meningitis in Rabbits.

Treatment of anthrax is challenging, especially during the advanced stages of the disease. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its recommendations for postexposure prophylaxis and treatment of exposed populations (before and after symptom onset). These recommendations distinguished, for the first time, between systemic disease with and without meningitis, a common and serious complication of anthrax.

The association between otogenic lateral sinus thrombosis and thrombophilia - A long-term follow-up.

Purpose: Otogenic lateral sinus thrombosis (OLST) is an intracranial, potentially life-threatening complication of acute and chronic otitis media. Since congenital thrombophilic disorders are risk factors for cerebral venous thrombosis, OLST may be related to thrombophilia. The aim of our study was twofold: to evaluate whether patients who suffered from OLST in childhood also have thrombophilia, and whether these patients experienced thromboembolic episodes in future years.

HIV/AIDS prevalence in Israeli prisons: Is there a need for universal screening?

This study aimed to assess HIV/AIDS point-prevalence among inmates and evaluate costs related to universal screening as currently practiced and appraise its necessity. All inmates newly incarcerated in Israel (2003-2010) underwent HIV tests and their medical files were cross-matched the with the national HIV/AIDS registry to who had been newly infected and detected on prison entry. They were classified by key risk-groups.

Introduction: Lesbian and bisexual women (LBs) have unique health needs compared with heterosexual women (HW).

Aim: This study aimed to associate the health status of LB, their health behavior, disclosure of sexual orientation (SO), and avoidance of health care with that of HW.

Methods: Participants in this cross-sectional study completed anonymous questionnaires, which were distributed in Internet sites and public venues in Israel, comparing health behaviors and outcomes between LB and HW.

Objective: Lifestyle may be associated with risk behaviours. This study compares gym exercise and sexual risk behaviour between men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexual men.
