Multiple Myeloma in a Young Adult: A Case Report.

Case: We present a 27-year-old man who presented with worsened back pain after a fall from a ladder. Unrelenting pain prompted the discovery through imaging and biopsy of a large pelvic plasmacytoma along with innumerable axial and appendicular lytic osseous lesions. The patient was soon thereafter diagnosed with light chain multiple myeloma (MM) and underwent measurable residual disease response-adapted consolidation treatment.

Association of Unilateral Radiotherapy With Contralateral Lymph Node Failure Among Patients With Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Tonsil: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Importance: Ipsilateral neck radiotherapy (RT) is controversial in some patients with tonsil cancer due to concern for nodal failure within the contralateral nonirradiated neck (hereinafter referred to as contralateral neck failure [CNF]).

Objective: To determine the rate of CNF following ipsilateral neck RT in patients with tonsil cancer.

Data Sources: Databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were queried for peer-reviewed, English language articles published between January 1, 1980, and December 31, 2021.

Objective: Surgical care patterns for lumbar disc herniation (LDH), a common musculoskeletal condition of high relevance to the Military Health System (MHS), have not been described or compared across the direct care and purchased care MHS components. This study aimed to describe surgery rates in MHS beneficiaries who were diagnosed with LDH in direct care versus purchased care and to evaluate characteristics associated with the location of surgery.

Outcomes for Hospitalized Aggressive and Violent Patients When Physical Restraints Are Introduced.

Background: Hospital outcomes among patients acting aggressively or violently have not been extensively studied in the United States.

Objectives: The aims of the study are to determine rates of physical restraint use among hospitalized patients who are aggressive/violent and to characterize associations with mortality and utilization metrics.

Design/setting/participants: National Inpatient Sample databases from 2016 to 2019 were analyzed with multivariable regression to compare aggressive/violent patients in whom physical restraints were or were not used.

Racial and Gender Diversity of Physicians Accepted to American Military Orthopaedic and Surgical Residencies: An 18-Year Analysis.

Unlabelled: Orthopaedic surgery ranks among the least racially and gender diverse medical/surgical specialties. United States military surgeons train in military or military-funded residency positions to care for a markedly diverse population; however, the composition and diversity of these training programs have not been previously assessed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of physician diversity in military orthopaedics in comparison with other surgical specialties over time.

Background: Evidence suggests that lifetime exposure to stressful life events and chronic stressors may be linked to geriatric depression. Allostatic load (AL) is considered a mediator of the stress-health relationship and has been linked to psychosocial factors reflecting health disparities. We sought to determine common characteristics of SUD-related hospitalizations and patterns of discharge diagnoses among adolescents in the United States. Using the 2016 KID, a cross-sectional study was conducted to identify discharge records associated with ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes for SUD. Adolescents between the ages of 13 and 19 were included.
