Background: Salvelinus is one the most species-rich genera of salmonids (Salmoniformes: Salmonidae), and mitogenomic sequence data have served as a rich source of information for resolving fish phylogenies and identifying new charr species. However, current reference databases contain limited mitochondrial genome information on narrow-ranged, endemic charrs with disputable origin and systematic status. More comprehensive mitochondrial genome-based phylogenetics will help enhance understanding of the relationship and delineate charr species.

Background: Diagnostic and treatment delays have caused significant impacts on the physical and emotional well-being of adolescents with endometriosis, though such research is limited. This study aimed to assess the effects of one-year dienogest therapy on the clinical picture, pain patterns, psycho-emotional status, and quality-of-life indicators in adolescents with endometriosis after surgical treatment.

Methods: The study enrolled 32 girls aged 13-17 with peritoneal endometriosis to analyze one-year dynamics of the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), McGill Pain Questionnaire, Beck Depression Scale (BDI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and SF-36 quality-of-life survey scores along with clinical and laboratory indicators before surgery and after one-year dienogest therapy.

Redox disbalance in placental cells leads to the hyperproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), it mediates the dysregulation of the maternal immune tolerance to a semi-allogenic fetus, inducing pro-inflammatory reactions, and it plays a central role in perinatal complications and neonatal disease programming. Microvesicles, which provide transplacental communication between a mother and fetus, contain microRNAs (miRNAs) that are sensitive to oxidative stress (OS) mediators and can control the balance of ROS production and utilization in target cells. In the context of this paradigm, we evaluated the markers of redox balance—MDA and 4-HNE for OS and GPx, and SOD, CAT, and GSH for the antioxidant system in the cord blood plasma of newborns diagnosed with fetal growth restriction (FGR)—by using polarography, spectrophotometry, and Western blotting.

Beet yellows virus, which belongs to the genus , family and has a significant negative economic impact, has proven to be challenging to detect and diagnose. To obtain antibodies against BYV, we propose an easier bioinformatics approach than the isolation and purification of the wild virus as an antigen. We used the SWISS-MODEL Workspace (Biozentrum Basel) protein 3D prediction program to discover epitopes of major coat protein p22 lying on the surface of the BYV capsid.

In this review, we considered aspects related to the application of polyelectrolytes, primarily synthetic polyanions and polycations, to immobilize enzymes and regulate their properties. We mainly focused on the description of works in which polyelectrolytes were used to create complex and unusual systems (self-regulated enzyme-polyelectrolyte complexes, artificial chaperones, polyelectrolyte brushes, layer-by-layer immobilization and others). These works represent the field of "smart polymers", whilst the trivial use of charged polymers as carriers for adsorption or covalent immobilization of proteins is beyond the scope of this short review.

Alpha-synuclein is a key protein involved in the development and progression of Parkinson's disease and other synucleinopathies. The intrinsically disordered nature of alpha-synuclein hinders the computational screening of new drug candidates for the treatment of these neurodegenerative diseases. In the present work, replica exchange molecular dynamics simulations of the full-length alpha-synuclein together with low-molecular ligands were utilized to predict the binding site and effect on the amyloid-like conversion of the protein.

In the present work, we describe the development of a chemiluminescent enzyme-linked oligonucleotide assay coupled with mismatched catalytic hairpin assembly (mCHA) amplification for the quantitative determination of microRNA-155. To improve its sensitivity, a polymerase-free mCHA reaction was applied as an isothermal amplification method. The detection limit of the proposed assay was 400 fM.

In this work, the interaction between the negatively charged surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and partially N-reacetylated chitosan (RA-CHI), which is soluble at pH range up to pH 12, is studied in a wide pH range including alkaline media by light scattering (LS) and isothermic titration calorimetry (ITC). It is shown that in the weakly alkaline medium (pH 7.4), RA-CHI/SDS interaction is exothermic and cooperative.

In this review, we discuss the mechanisms of generation of membrane-bound protons using different energy sources in model and natural systems. Analysis of these mechanisms revealed that all three types of reactions include the same principal stage, which is dissociation of electrically neutral Brønsted acids at the interface during transition from the hydrophobic phase to water with a low dielectric constant. Special attention is paid to the fact that in one of the analyzed model systems, membrane-bound protons provide energy for the reaction of ATP synthesis.
