The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Pharmacotherapy Didactic Curriculum Toolkit has been used across many schools of pharmacy to guide the depth and breadth of therapeutics coverage, but no counterpart for foundational science coverage in pharmacy education currently exists. Broad topic areas for the foundational sciences are outlined in Appendix 1 of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards, but the standards lack specific direction with regard to foundational sciences content needed in the professional pharmacy curriculum. Faculty are therefore challenged to determine the depth and breadth of foundational sciences to meet educational standards within limited curricular space, often resulting in curricular hoarding and overload.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSI) result in increased morbidity and mortality, prolonged recovery, longer hospital length of stay for medication or possible additional surgeries, and escalated health care costs. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to compare SSI rates and overall skin flora burden between those using chlorhexidine (CHG) cloths versus soap and water preoperatively in the adult spine surgery population.
Methods: Subjects were randomized preoperatively to use 2% CHG cloths versus soap and water the night before and morning of surgery prior to the operation.
Community pharmacists are often the most accessible member of the healthcare team to many patients and can play a key role in managing their chronic conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, through enhanced pharmacy services. Despite their accessibility, pharmacy services are often underutilized due, in part, to a lack of adequate reimbursement models that comprehensively encapsulate all elements of those pharmacy services. While routine documentation of services does collect certain qualitative data, they do not always indicate the nuance of the full scope of services with resulting robust impact and value of those services for the patient and healthcare system.

Urothelial cancer is the second most common cancer, and cause of cancer death, related to the genitourinary tract. The goals of imaging for pretreatment staging of urothelial cancer are to evaluate for both local and distant spread of the cancer and assessing for synchronous sites of urothelial cancer in the upper tracts and bladder. For pretreatment staging of urothelial carcinoma, patients can be stratified into one of three groups: 1) nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer; 2) muscle invasive bladder cancer; and 3) upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma.

Work Was Completed When This Individual Was In A Role at South Dakota State University, Department of Allied and Population Health, and the Community Practice Innovation Center, USA.
Background: Access to healthcare services is a major barrier to residents of the rural state of South Dakota. As a highly accessible member of the healthcare team, outpatient pharmacists can play a key role in a patient's healthcare journey. Lineups are considered a superior method of identification to showups, but why is contested. There are two main theories: diagnostic feature detection theory, which holds that surrounding the suspect with fillers causes the eyewitness to focus on the features that are most diagnostic, and differential filler siphoning theory that claims that the fillers draw incorrect choices away from the suspect. Colloff and Wixted (2020) created a novel identification task, called a simultaneous showup, designed to prevent filler siphoning, while still allowing comparison to occur between members of the array.

As studied previously, chronic stress environments lead to the formation of distinctive resilience groupings when related to individual outcomes among participants. The majority of the population has decreased mental and physical strength during prolonged periods of mental distress but returns to baseline status when those stressors are removed. Others have increased and decreased mental fortitude despite the removal of stressors.

Simulation is a teaching and learning strategy that is used commonly in healthcare education in academia and practice settings. Nurses at the bedside may recall times in their formal education where simulation was used as a form of clinical learning or evaluation of their performance. It is possible that with the rise of nurse residency programs and in situ simulation that bedside nurses are experiencing simulation regularly within the workplace as a means of professional development.

Objectives: Hypertension or high blood pressure (BP) is one of the 12 modifiable risk factors that contribute to 40% of dementia cases that could be delayed or prevented. Although hypertension is associated with cognitive decline and structural brain changes, less is known about the long-term association between variable BP and cognitive/brain changes. This study examined the relationship between variable BP and longitudinal cognitive, white matter hyperintensity (WMH), gray matter (GM), and white matter (WM) volume change over time and postmortem neuropathology.

The decision to place a tracheostomy in children is complex and involves factors beyond the medical procedure, including quality of life, values, and goals. Providers play an important role in counseling caregivers and guiding them through the decision-making process. There are no established guidelines for tracheostomy counseling, leading to variations in practice.

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) resulting from low-intensity blast (LIB) exposure in military and civilian individuals is linked to enduring behavioral and cognitive abnormalities. These injuries can serve as confounding risk factors for the development of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease-related dementias (ADRD). Recent animal studies have demonstrated LIB-induced brain damage at the molecular and nanoscale levels.

Introduction: Surgical oncology patients have a high symptom burden and increased risk of morbidity. The aim of palliative care is to evaluate and treat the patient in a holistic manner focusing on the unique attributes of each patient. This goal-concordant approach could help surgical patients cope with the stress and uncertainty that often accompany serious illness and surgery, improving overall outcomes.

Recent advances in bioacoustics combined with acoustic individual identification (AIID) could open frontiers for ecological and evolutionary research because traditional methods of identifying individuals are invasive, expensive, labor-intensive, and potentially biased. Despite overwhelming evidence that most taxa have individual acoustic signatures, the application of AIID remains challenging and uncommon. Furthermore, the methods most commonly used for AIID are not compatible with many potential AIID applications.

Initial imaging evaluation of hydronephrosis of unknown etiology is a complex subject and is dependent on clinical context. In asymptomatic patients, it is often best conducted via CT urography (CTU) without and with contrast, MR urography (MRU) without and with contrast, or scintigraphic evaluation with mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) imaging. For symptomatic patients, CTU without and with contrast, MRU without and with contrast, MAG3 scintigraphy, or ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder with Doppler imaging are all viable initial imaging studies.

Despite the extensive research successes and continuous developments in modern medicine in terms of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, the lack of clinically useful disease-modifying drugs or immunotherapeutic agents that can successfully treat or prevent neurodegenerative diseases is an ongoing challenge. To date, only one of the 244 drugs in clinical trials for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases has been approved in the past decade, indicating a failure rate of 99.6%.
