Institute for Comparative Genomics, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada.

Symbiotic relationships between eukaryotes and prokaryotes played pivotal roles in the evolution of life and drove the emergence of specialized symbiotic structures in animals, plants and fungi. The host-evolved symbiotic structures of microbial eukaryotes - the vast majority of such hosts in nature - remain largely unstudied. Here we describe highly structured symbiosomes within three free-living anaerobic protists (Anaeramoeba spp.

Int Emerg Nurs

December 2024

Department of Health Sciences, Lund University, Lund, Sweden,; Department of Ambulance Service, Region Skåne, Helsingborg, Sweden; Centre of Interprofessional Cooperation within Emergency Care (CICE), Växjö, Sweden. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Sweden is shifting towards a person-centred approach in healthcare, emphasizing patient partnership and tailored health plans, but the ambulance service’s task-oriented nature may conflict with this model.
  • * The study aimed to understand how nurses in the Swedish ambulance service interpret and implement person-centred care (PCC).
  • * Findings revealed that while ambulance PCC is seen as vague and challenging to apply in practice, it can still be relevant if care is adjusted for urgency and individual needs, highlighting the importance of communication and empathy in emergency situations.

Rationale: Patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) have high risk of hospitalization, which might be decreased by home mechanical ventilation (HMV).

Objectives: To evaluate annualized hospitalization rate (AHR) and change in AHR in patients with OHS starting home mechanical ventilation (HMV), and explore if there were any difference in AHR by starting HMV acutely or electively.

Methods: Population-based longitudinal study of patients with OHS starting HMV in the Swedish DISCOVERY cohort between 1996 and 2018, cross-linked with the National Patient Registry for national data on hospital admissions.

This clinical review article aims to describe symptoms and findings in cases of paediatric tracheobronchomalacia to help achieve the correct diagnosis and treatment. Symptoms and signs vary from reduced physical stamina, barking cough, productive cough and gurgling to obstructive episodes or episodes with stridor, which in some cases can be life-threatening. The range of symptoms overlaps with other pulmonary diseases, such as asthma, which increases the risk of misdiagnosis and treatment error.

A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.

Article Synopsis
  • - The ATLAS experiment at the LHC conducted a search for long-lived particles (LLPs) using a large dataset (140 fb^{-1}) from proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV, focusing on LLPs with masses from 5 to 55 GeV that decay within the inner detector.
  • - The study considered scenarios where LLPs are produced from exotic Higgs boson decays and models involving axionlike particles (ALPs).
  • - No significant findings above expected background levels were detected, leading to the establishment of upper limits on various production rates involving the Higgs boson and the top quark related to LLPs and ALPs.
