An essential step in human biomonitoring or molecular epidemiology programs is to estimate human exposure to environmental chemicals. Despite significant progress in the capabilities of analytical methods, the number of pollutants and their metabolites keeps increasing continuously. Some of these relatively unknown chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) may pose significant health risks to humans and biota, but remain virtually undetected in traditional HBM-studies.

Signal transduction is the primary process by which cells respond to changes in their physical and chemical environments. Cellular response is initiated through a signaling protein (a receptor), which interacts with the "signal", most often a novel molecule outside or inside the cell. The mechanism of activation of the receptor is a conformational change and/or covalent modification, which then sets in motion a signaling pathway, i.

Motivation: Protein aggregation is associated with a number of protein misfolding diseases and is a major concern for therapeutic proteins. Aggregation is caused by the presence of aggregation-prone regions (APRs) in the amino acid sequence of the protein. The lower the aggregation propensity of APRs and the better they are protected by native interactions within the folded structure of the protein, the more aggregation is prevented.

With the case of Belgium as a negative example, this paper will evaluate the legitimacy of using mentally incompetents as organ sources. The first section examines the underlying moral dilemma that results from the necessity of balancing the principle of respect for persons with the obligation to help people in desperate need. We argue for the rejection of a radical utilitarian approach but also question the appropriateness of a categorical prohibition.

Purpose: The aim of this narrative review was to summarise the cost analyses and supporting trial data for aspirin prophylaxis in primary prevention.
Methods: A PubMed search using the term 'aspirin and cost-effective and primary prevention' was performed. Professional meetings (2009) were also searched for any relevant abstracts contacting the terms 'aspirin' and 'cost effectiveness'.
