Predicting recovery in patients with mild traumatic brain injury and a normal CT using serum biomarkers and diffusion tensor imaging (CENTER-TBI): an observational cohort study.

Background: Even patients with normal computed tomography (CT) head imaging may experience persistent symptoms for months to years after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). There is currently no good way to predict recovery and triage patients who may benefit from early follow-up and targeted intervention. We aimed to assess if existing prognostic models can be improved by serum biomarkers or diffusion tensor imaging metrics (DTI) from MRI, and if serum biomarkers can identify patients for DTI.

Rapid advancements in medical AI necessitate targeted educational initiatives for clinicians to ensure AI tools are safe and used effectively to improve patient outcomes. To support decision-making among stakeholders in medical education, we propose three tiers of medical AI expertise and outline the challenges for medical education at different educational stages. Additionally, we offer recommendations and examples, encouraging stakeholders to adapt and shape curricula for their specific healthcare setting using this framework.

Mussels and tubeworms have evolved similar adhesive systems to cope with the hydrodynamics of intertidal environments. Both secrete adhesive proteins rich in DOPA, a post-translationally modified amino acid playing essential roles in their permanent adhesion. DOPA is produced by the hydroxylation of tyrosine residues by tyrosinase enzymes, which can also oxidize it further into dopaquinone.

Background: In South Kivu (Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo [DRC]), health districts (HDs) affected by chronic armed conflicts are devising coping mechanisms to continue offering healthcare services to the population. European clinical practice guideline: managing and treating laryngopharyngeal reflux disease.

Objective: To propose a European consensus for managing and treating laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) to guide primary care and specialist physicians.

Methods: Twenty-three European experts (otolaryngologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons) participated in a modified Delphi process to revise 38 statements about the definition, clinical management, and treatment of LPRD. Three voting rounds were conducted on a 5-point scale and a consensus was defined a priori as agreement by 80% of the experts.

Introduction: Incontinence is commonly experienced by adults who receive care support in a residential facility or in their own home. These individuals are at risk of developing incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD), which is caused by prolonged and repeated exposure of the skin to urine or faeces. An IAD manual was developed providing an evidence-based clinical algorithm and an e-learning training programme for the prevention and treatment of IAD.

This study investigated the relationship between pea protein isolates (PPI) emulsifying properties and their structural, interfacial, and physicochemical characteristics at various pH values (native pH, 7, 5, and 3). Emulsion characteristics including emulsifying activity and stability, droplet size, flocculation index (FI) and coalescence index (CI) were examined. Additionally, physicochemical properties such as solubility, zeta potential, surface hydrophobicity, interfacial protein adsorption and protein conformation were analyzed.

Effects of ALS-associated 5'tiRNA on the transcriptomic and proteomic profile of primary neurons in vitro.

tRNA-derived stress-induced RNAs (tiRNAs) are a new class of small non-coding RNA that have emerged as important regulators of cellular stress responses. tiRNAs are derived from specific tRNA cleavage by the stress-induced ribonuclease angiogenin (ANG). Loss-of-function mutations in the ANG gene are linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and elevated levels of specific tiRNAs were recently identified in ALS patient serum samples.
