A one health approach for integrated vector management monitoring and evaluation.

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (Anses) has set up a multidisciplinary working group (WG) to develop an innovative One Health approach for the monitoring and evaluation of an integrated vector management system (IVMS) on a territorial scale. Four existing evaluation guidelines and methods have been combined into a semi-quantitative evaluation approach that takes into account all the dimensions of an integrated process. We propose a set of 34 criteria divided into three sections (objectives and management, implementation, integration) that correspond to the main functional components of an IVMS.

Among them, the 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazole-2-ylidene (IPr) ligand has become a cornerstone of NHC chemistry for its remarkable versatility, stability, and broad use. Since its discovery by the Nolan group in 1999, IPr has played a pivotal role in advancing catalytic transformations and facilitating the utilization of NHC ligands in various domains.

Extending health equity to people with moderate and mild hemophilia A: revisiting the HAVEN 6 trial.

Congenital hemophilia A (HA) disease severity has traditionally been categorized according to intrinsic factor (F)VIII levels, with <1% of normal indicating severe HA, 1% to 5% moderate HA, and 6% to 40% mild HA. However, mounting evidence illustrates considerable variability in bleeding phenotype regardless of FVIII level. Despite treatment advances, people with moderate or mild HA may be neglected, as treatment guidelines and established norms focus on FVIII levels, and many clinical trials do not include people with FVIII > 1%.

Identifying the objects embedded in natural scenes relies on recurrent processing between lower and higher visual areas. How is cortical feedback information related to objects and scenes organised in lower visual areas? The spatial organisation of cortical feedback converging in early visual cortex during object and scene processing could be retinotopically specific as it is coded in V1, or object centred as coded in higher areas, or both. Here, we characterise object and scene-related feedback information to V1.

InP/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell/shell quantum dots are the most investigated quantum dot material for commercial applications involving visible light emission. The inner InP/ZnSe interface is complex since it is not charge balanced, and the InP surface is prone to oxidation. The role of oxidative defects at this interface has remained a topic of debate, with conflicting reports of both detrimental and beneficial effects on the quantum dot properties.

Force Nanoscopy Demonstrates Stress-Activated Adhesion between Iron-Regulated Surface Determinant Protein B and Host Toll-like Receptor 4.

The iron-regulated surface determinant protein B (IsdB) has recently been shown to bind to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), thereby inducing a strong inflammatory response in innate immune cells. Currently, two unsolved questions are (i) What is the molecular mechanism of the IsdB-TLR4 interaction? and (ii) Does it also play a role in nonimmune systems? Here, we use single-molecule experiments to demonstrate that IsdB binds TLR4 with both weak and extremely strong forces and that the mechanostability of the molecular complex is dramatically increased by physical stress, sustaining forces up to 2000 pN, at a loading rate of 10 pN/s. We also show that TLR4 binding by IsdB mediates time-dependent bacterial adhesion to endothelial cells, pointing to the role of this bond in cell invasion.

From Stigma to Strength? The Interrelations Between Sexual Identity Stigma, Well-Being, and Accepting Communities on Instagram Amongst Sexual Minority Youth.

Introduction: Initial evidence suggests that engaging with accepting communities on social media such as Instagram may inform sexual minority youths' sense of stigma and well-being. However, as existing research has predominately drawn upon cross-sectional or qualitative designs, it is currently unclear whether the positive experiences identified in previous research accumulate, endure, or evolve over time. We also know relatively little about whether engagement with accepting online communities is primarily a compensatory or enhancing behavior.

Background: Iduronate-2-sulfatase (IDS) deficiency (MPS II; Hunter syndrome) is a disorder that exhibits peripheral and CNS pathology. The blood brain barrier (BBB) prevents systemic enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) from alleviating CNS pathology. We aimed to enable brain delivery of systemic ERT by using molecular BBB-Trojans targeting endothelial transcytosis receptors.

Governance and resilience as entry points for transforming food systems in the countdown to 2030.

Due to complex interactions, changes in any one area of food systems are likely to impact-and possibly depend on-changes in other areas. Here we present the first annual monitoring update of the indicator framework proposed by the Food Systems Countdown Initiative, with new qualitative analysis elucidating interactions across indicators. Since 2000, we find that 20 of 42 indicators with time series have been trending in a desirable direction, indicating modest positive change.

Impact of irrelevant speech and non-speech sounds on serial recall of verbal and spatial items in children and adults.

Short-term memory for sequences of verbal items such as written words is reliably impaired by task-irrelevant background sounds, a phenomenon known as the "Irrelevant Sound Effect" (ISE). Different theoretical accounts have been proposed to explain the mechanisms underlying the ISE. Some of these assume specific interference between obligatory sound processing and phonological or serial order representations generated during task performance, whereas other posit that background sounds involuntarily divert attention away from the focal task.

Purpose: This analysis of the CIRSE Registry for SIR-Spheres Therapy in France, CIRT-FR, reports on real-world outcomes of transarterial radioembolisation (TARE) with Y90 resin microspheres for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) patients in France, focusing on safety, effectiveness and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Results on patients treated based on national reimbursement criteria are discussed here.

Methods: Prospective, multicentre, observational study of HCC and CRLM patients treated between August 2017 and July 2020 with TARE Y90 resin microspheres.

Metagenome-guided culturomics for the targeted enrichment of gut microbes.

The gut microbiome significantly impacts human health, yet cultivation challenges hinder its exploration. Here, we combine deep whole-metagenome sequencing with culturomics to selectively enrich for taxa and functional capabilities of interest. Using a modified commercial base medium, 50 growth modifications were evaluated, spanning antibiotics, physico-chemical conditions, and bioactive compounds.

Large Language Models lack essential metacognition for reliable medical reasoning.

Large Language Models have demonstrated expert-level accuracy on medical board examinations, suggesting potential for clinical decision support systems. However, their metacognitive abilities, crucial for medical decision-making, remain largely unexplored. To address this gap, we developed MetaMedQA, a benchmark incorporating confidence scores and metacognitive tasks into multiple-choice medical questions.

Background And Purpose: Prolonged venous transit (PVT), derived from computed tomography perfusion (CTP) time-to-maximum (T) maps, reflects compromised venous outflow (VO) in acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO). Poor VO is associated with worse clinical outcomes, but pre-treatment markers predictive of PVT are not well described.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 189 patients with anterior circulation AIS-LVO who underwent baseline CT evaluation, including non-contrast CT, CT angiography, and CTP.

Association of Burnout and Intention-To-Leave the Job With Objective Nursing Workload and Nursing Working Environment: A Cross-Sectional Study Among Intensive Care Nurses.

Aim: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of burnout risk and intention-to-leave among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses and analyse the association of these with workload and work environment.

Design: A cross-sectional survey of nurses working in ICUs was conducted in France between 15 January 2024 and 15 April 2024 alongside a longitudinal assessment of workload during the same period.

Methods: ICU nurse workload was assessed using the Nursing Activities Score (NAS).
