Purpose: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and target therapy have provided the clinical efficacy for improving the clinical progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) for patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). There has been little report of an surrogate salvage treatment for those failure of both ICIs and target. An innovation therapeutic model named SHAPE-T (synchronized hyperthermia with autologous progenitor expanded T cells) was applied to previously heavily treated metastatic RCC (mRCC).

Article Synopsis
  • The mesothelium is a layer of cells covering serosal cavities, and mesothelial tumors are rare, especially those in the tunica vaginalis compared to other areas like the pleura or peritoneum.
  • Mesothelial tumors in the tunica vaginalis are classified into three categories: adenomatoid tumors, well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumors (WDPMT), and mesotheliomas, with WDPMT being particularly rare and lacking established treatment guidelines.
  • A case of a 29-year-old man with chronic scrotal pain led to an emergency operation, revealing signs consistent with WDPMT, which was confirmed through postoperative histopathology and immunohistochemical staining.

Phenomics

April 2024

Health Management Institute, The Second Medical Center, National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Hospital, 28 Fuxing Road, Beijing, 100853 China.

Unlabelled: The integration of predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory (P4) healthcare advocates proactive intervention, including dietary supplements and lifestyle interventions for chronic disease. Personal profiles include deep phenotypic data and genetic information, which are associated with chronic diseases, can guide proactive intervention. However, little is known about how to design an appropriate intervention mode to precisely intervene with personalized phenome-based data.

Purpose: Accurate segmentation of the endometrium in ultrasound images is essential for gynecological diagnostics and treatment planning. Manual segmentation methods are time-consuming and subjective, prompting the exploration of automated solutions. We introduce "segment anything with inception module" (SAIM), a specialized adaptation of the segment anything model, tailored specifically for the segmentation of endometrium structures in ultrasound images.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study compared two treatment methods for simple ranula: suture micromarsupialisation (55 patients) and traditional ranula resections (51 patients) among 106 patients treated at a hospital in Beijing between August 2022 and May 2023.
  • - The results showed that while the cure rates were similar for both methods (98.18% vs. 96.08%), suture micromarsupialisation had significantly lower intraoperative blood loss, shorter surgery duration, and less postoperative pain, along with fewer complications (7.27% vs. 25.49%).
  • - The study concludes that suture micromarsupialisation is a less invasive and effective alternative to traditional

Skeletal Class II malocclusion is a common malocclusion seen in clinics. It is characterized by maxillary protrusion and mandibular retrognathia and has a high incidence in adolescent mixed dentition and early permanent dentition. The early functional correction has achieved some clinical results in treating skeletal Class II malocclusion with mandibular hypoplasia.

Objective: This study investigates the effect of a bilateral (paralyzed side, healthy side) plantar contact task on dorsolateral prefrontal activation in patients recovering from cerebral infarction under open and closed eye conditions.

Methods: We selected 10 patients with cerebral infarction, admitted to the neurorehabilitation center of Beijing Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University, from January 2019 to July 2020, who met our established criteria. Under open-eye and closed-eye conditions, the paralyzed and healthy sides performed the plantar contact tasks separately.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy between acupuncture with method by stages based on syndrome differentiation and oral administration of ibuprofen sustained-release capsule in patients with menstrual headache.

Methods: A total of 90 cases with menstrual headache were randomly divided into an acupuncture group (45 cases, 1 case excluded, 3 cases dropped off) and a medication group (45 cases, 3 cases dropped off). The patients in the acupuncture group were treated with acupuncture with method by stages based on syndrome differentiation; during period of pain attacks, Ganshu (BL 18), Qimen (LR 14), Hegu (LI 4), Taichong (LR 3), Sizhukong (TE 23) through Shuaigu (GB 8) were selected, once a day; during period of pain relief, Qichong (ST 30), Dahe (KI 12), Guanyuan (CV 4), Taixi (KI 3) were selected, once every 1-2 days.

Background And Purpose: Blood pressure (BP) variability (BPV) increases the risk of cerebral disease in both hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. However, whether BPV is associated with different types of ischemic stroke remains unclear. In this study, we explored the relationship between BPV and ischemic stroke subtypes.

Article Synopsis
  • Current measurement systems for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture struggle to accurately capture tactile signals, causing issues in clinical application.
  • A new multi-PVDF film-based tactile array finger cot was developed to gather piezoelectric signals from acupuncture techniques, facilitating the classification of four basic manual methods.
  • The feature-based CatBoost ensemble learning model used for recognizing these techniques achieved impressive validation accuracy of 99.63% and test accuracy of 92.45%, along with insights on its efficiency and limitations.

The highly prevalent cognitive impairment in hemodialysis patients is associated with all-cause mortality; however, the role of different cognitive domain impairments in this association is still not clarified. Our objective was to determine the association between cognitive domain impairment and all-cause mortality in elderly adult patients undergoing hemodialysis. We conducted a prospective cohort study including patients from 11 hemodialysis centers in Beijing.

Drug resistance is a key factor affecting the treatment of gastric cancer. The resistance of gastric cancer cells to anticancer drugs, such as cisplatin (DDP), remains a major challenge to patient recovery. The present study aimed to investigate the roles of C-terminal-binding protein 1 (CTBP1) in the DDP resistance of gastric cancer cells and to determine its regulatory effect on DNA repair protein RAD51 homolog 1 (RAD51).

In learning and evaluation of acupuncture manipulations, there are lack of quantitative physical parameters on exertion strength, duration and direction of acupuncture technique at present. Based on the tactile parameters collected during "twirling" and "lifting-thrusting" of needling, a kind of array polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) tactile sensor was designed. Followed by, a window segmentation method for tactile signal was proposed and the time domain features of the window were extracted.

Objective: To improve the accuracy of acupuncture manipulation modeling and inheritance, this article explores the feasibility of automatically classifying "twirling" and "lifting and thrusting", two basic acupuncture manipulations in science of acupuncture and moxibustion, with the computer vision technology.

Methods: A hybrid deep learning network model was designed based on 3D convolutional neural network and long-short term memory neural network to extract the spatial-temporal features of video frame sequences, which were then input into the classifier for classification.

Results: The model discriminated between "twirling" and "lifting and thrusting" manipulations in 200 videos, with the training and verification accuracy reaching up to 95.
