An investigation on the biotribocorrosion behaviour of CoCrMo alloy grafted with polyelectrolyte brush.

Biomed Mater Eng

June 2015

State Key Laboratory of Tribology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China.

Surface grafting of polyelectrolyte brush, such as 3-sulfopropyl methacrylate potassium salt (SPMK), on hip implant materials has been reported to reduce the wear of the orthopaedic bearing surface. However, the biotribocorrosion behaviour of the SPMK brush has not been taken into consideration in previous research. In the present study, SPMK was grafted on Co28Cr6Mo alloy through photo-induced polymerization, and the biotribocorrosion behaviour was investigated by a series of frictional-electrochemical tests using a universal materials tester combined with an electrochemical measurement (three-electrode) system.

Dosimetric variability of the rats' exposure to electromagnetic pulses.

Electromagn Biol Med

September 2016

b China Academy of Telecommunication Research of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology , Beijing , China , and.

Rats' exposure to electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) has been conducted using an EMP simulator for various biological endpoints. In contrast, information about the EMP energy distribution and its variability in rats is lacking. EMPs are signals with spectrum concentrating in several hundred MHz, leading to EM absorption patterns different from those obtained at high frequencies.

The farming soil and vegetable samples around a large-scale zinc smelter were collected for mercury content analyses, and the single pollution index method with relevant regulations was used to evaluate the pollution status of sampled soils and vegetables. The results indicated that the surface soil and vegetables were polluted with mercury to different extent. Of the soil samples, 78% exceeded the national standard.

Growth Control of Cyanobacteria by Three Submerged Macrophytes.

Environ Eng Sci

June 2012

Department of Biological Science and Engineering, School of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Beijing, China .

To illustrate the control of harmful cyanobacterial growth and the removal of nutritients from fresh water, three submerged macrophytes were grown in the raw water of Guishui Lake. Lindernia rotundifolia, Hygrophila stricta, and Cryptocoryne crispatula were grown together in situ to assess their effectiveness in nutrient removal in microcosms. Results revealed the inhibitory effects of these species on cyanobacterial growth.

Mechanical soil aeration is an effective and low cost ex-situ remediation technique suitable for large sites contaminated by volatile organic compounds. However, this technique is still in the testing and development phase. To understand the effectiveness of this remediation technique and the main factors influencing its efficacy, an abandoned typical chlor-alkali chemical industry site was remediated using this technology on a pilot-scale.

In view of the problems that conventional artificial cartilages have no bioactivity and are prone to peel off in repeated uses as a result of insufficient strength to bond with subchondral bone, we have designed and prepared a novel kind of PVA-BG composite hydrogel as bionic artificial articular cartilage/bone composite implants. The effects of processes and conditions of preparation on the mechanical properties of implant were explored. In addition, the relationships between compression strain rate, BG content, PVA hydrogels thickness and compressive tangent modulus were also explicated.

Due to the non-bioactivity and poor conjunction performance of present cartilage prostheses, the main work here is to develop the bioactive glass-polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel articular cartilage/bone (BG-PVA/bone) composite implants. The essential criterion for a biomaterial to bond with living bone is well-matched mechanical properties as well as biocompatibility and bioactivity. In vitro studies on the formation of a surface layer of carbonate hydroxyl apatite (HCA) and the corresponding variation of the properties of biomaterials are imperative for their clinical application.

Objective: To analyze the contents of thirty elements and their rule of variation in the samples of women with lung cancer and control population.

Methods: 95 plasma samples of women with lung cancer and 93 plasma samples of control group were collected from Xuanwei and Fuyuan, Yunnan Province where the lung cancer rates are among the highest in China. The samples were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry after microwave digestion.

The purpose of this study is to characterize the stress relax properties of PVA-H prosthetic nucleus via the four-parameter linear viscoelastic model and to analyze the influence of swelling ratio and initial PVA content upon the properties of dissipating compressive stress. The four-parameter linear viscoelastic model can simulate the viscoelastic property of prosthetic nucleus well (corr > 0.99) and be more effective than the three parameter linear viscoelastic model.

Synthesis, property and field-emission behaviour of amorphous polypyrrole nanowires.

Nanotechnology

July 2006

Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, People's Republic of China. Department of Chemistry, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Beijing 100083, People's Republic of China.

Polypyrrole nanowires have been electrosynthesized by direct oxidation of 0.1 mol l(-1) pyrrole in a medium of 75% isopropyl alcohol + 20% boron trifluoride diethyl etherate + 5% poly (ethylene glycol) (by volume) using porous alumina membranes as the templates. The as-prepared nanowires had a smooth surface and uniform diameter and were arranged in an orderly manner in a high density.

In this paper, firstly the algorithmic relation between the weight fraction Ci, X-ray fluorescence relative intensity Ri and matrix effect factor Fi is created for the multi-element specimen on theoretical basis. Secondly, according to this algorithm relation, the typical method to solve inverse problem of Therman equation can be developed that is the theoretical influence coefficience method and the fundamental parameter method. Six standards are analysed by these two methods respectively, and results are good agree with the certified values.

Rings of 24 atoms form part of the two-dimensional structure of the novel compounds [NdM(bpym)(H O) (CN) ]⋅3 H O (M = Fe (1), Co (2); bpym = 2,2'-bipyrimidine). These compounds are the first two-dimensional cyano-bridged species containing lanthanide and transition metal centers. The structures and magnetic properties are investigated.

In this paper the retention behaviors of low-molecular weight amines (methylamine, dimethylamine, trimethylamine, ethylamine, propylamine sec-butylamine, n-butylamine, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine) on Ionpac CS12 column were for the first time studied with modern ion chromatograph. The column is usually used for routine analysis of inorganic cations and it strongly retains these organic amines. So they are difficult to be eluted by dilute aqueous HCl alone.
