School of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Tuina, Beijing University of CM, Beijing 100029, China.

Since the anatomical location of acupoints was recorded in in 1915, and in 1931, the Japanese acupuncture works of Chinese translation version, the location of Dazhui (GV 14) (under the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra) and Yaoyangguan (GV 3) (under the spinous process of the 4th lumbar vertebra) had rarely been questioned for nearly a century. In order to confirm the above statement, the writers have reviewed ancient literature, combined with the modern anatomical knowledge and searched the evidences from the core arguments of the acupuncture chart and the bronze acupuncture statue. It is believed that Dazhui (GV 14) should be positioned under the spinous process of the 1st thoracic vertebra, and Yaoyangguan(GV 3) be under the spinous process of the 5th lumbar vertebra.

October 2023

Department of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, Beijing Hospital of TCM, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100010, China; Beijing Key Laboratory of Acupuncture Neuromodulation, Beijing 100010; Huairou Hospital of Beijing Hospital of TCM, Beijing 101400.

Due to various constraints, such as clinical implementation conditions and unique characteristics of acupuncture-moxibustion, some randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture-moxibustion still suffer from relatively low quality and limited applicability. The single-arm objective performance criteria/performance goal can be considered as an ideal supplementary and alternative research approach to RCTs. In this paper, the feasibility of applying the single-arm objective performance criteria/performance goal in acupuncture-moxibustion clinical research is explored from the limitations of conducting acupuncture-moxibustion RCTs, the principles, the essential design considerations and key statistical steps.

August 2023

Oncology Department of Acupuncture and Minimally Invasive Treatment, Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of CM, Beijing 100029; Institute of Acupuncture and Oncology, Beijing University of CM, Beijing 100029.

There is a commonality between (muscle region of meridian) and the fascial network for coordinating the balance in the body. The occurrence and the progression of tumor may disrupt the overall coordination between the fascial network and directly or indirectly, thereby, the impairment of this coordination may result in cancer pain. Rooted on the theory of overall balance of the fascial network, and combined with understanding of pain in theory, professor emphasizes the importance of "relaxing the knot" in treatment of cancer pain.

The commonly used terms "sham acupuncture" and "placebo acupuncture" in clinical acupuncture research is compared and analyzed in this article. In terms of their respective characteristics, sham acupuncture has a wider scope, including various types of acupoints, needle insertion at non-acupoint or non-insertion at acupoints, while placebo acupuncture mainly focuses on non-insertion at acupoints. Sham acupuncture mainly emphasizes the appearance similarity to real acupuncture, while placebo acupuncture emphasizes both similarity in appearance and the absence of therapeutic effects.
