To compare the efficacy and safety of low-power holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (LP-HoLEP) with plasma kinetic resection of prostate (PKRP). Sixty-three patients treated with transurethral LP-HoLEP (observation group) and 68 patients treated with transurethral PKRP (control group) at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from November 2019 to November 2022 were retrospectively compared with regard to operation duration, intra-operative blood loss, prostate resection ratio, postoperative bladder irrigation time, postoperative indwelling urinary catheter time, postoperative urinary incontinence incidence, International Prostate Symptom Scale (IPSS), maximum urine flow rate (Qmax), and residual urine volume (RUV). In both groups, postoperative IPSS, Qmax, and RUV were significantly improved compared to preoperative values (P < 0.

Essential hypertension (EH) is a clinically frequent cardiovascular disease, with insidious onset, causing increased pressure load and neuroregulation disorders in patients. Long-term EH can cause left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), which can lead to arrhythmia and even death. The soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2), matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), and galectin-3 (Gal-3) in serum plays an important role in the occurrence, development, and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases.

Background: Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disease caused by germline mutations in the folliculin (FLCN) protein gene, which usually manifests as cutaneous fibrofolliculoma, pulmonary cysts, renal cell carcinoma, and spontaneous pneumothorax.

Case Summary: A 26-year-old woman with no history of smoking was admitted to the Respiratory Department of our hospital due to intermittent wheezing that lasted for 8 mo. She had experienced recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax more than four times during the past 8 mo.

One of the hallmarks of placental dysfunction is the increase of oxidative stress. This process, along with the overexpression of the inflammasome, creates a downward spiral that can lead to a series of severe pregnancy complications. Ferroptosis is a form of iron-mediated cell death involving the accumulation of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxides.

Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) remains a critical and challenging problem in reproduction. To discover novel biomarkers for RSA, ultra performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) metabolomics approach was applied to detect RSA serum metabolic profiles and explore its possible pathogenesis and mechanism. The abortion rat model was established, and a metabolomics analysis was performed to evaluate the differentially expressed metabolites between the control and model groups.

We investigated whether there was activation of NLRP1 inflammasomes and excessive autophagy in oxidative stress damage. And we further demonstrate whether there is a cascade relationship between the activation of NLRP1 inflammasomes and the phenomenon of excessive autophagy. To observe the expression level of the NLRP1 inflammasome group in the pathological process of trophoblast cell oxidative stress, western blot, immunofluorescence, and qRT-PCR were performed.

Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are highly chondrogenic and can be used to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by alleviating cartilage defects. Acupotomy, a biomechanical therapy guided by traditional Chinese medicine theory, alleviates cartilage degradation and is widely used in the clinic to treat KOA by correcting abnormal mechanics. However, whether combining acupotomy with ASCs will reverse cartilage degeneration by promoting chondrocyte proliferation in KOA rabbits is unknown.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness and safety of the Chinese medicine (CM) Qixiong Zhongzi Decoction (, QZD) in the treatment of patients with idiopathic asthenozoospermia.

Methods: A total number of 66 patients with idiopathic asthenozoospermia were included and randomly divided into treatment and control groups by SAS-generated code from January 2015 to August 2016, 33 patients in each group. Patients in the treatment group were administered with 150 mL of QZD twice a day, whereas those in the control group were given 1 g of levocarnitine oral liquid twice a day.

Objective: To investigate the effects of berberine on learning and memory ability in vascular cognitive impairment rats.

Methods: Sixty-eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group (n=10), sham operated group (n=10) and the modeling group of vascular cognitive impairment rat (n=48), then the rats in modeling group were randomly divided into four groups (n=10): vehicle group, berberine low dose group (20 mg/kg), medium dose group (40 mg/kg) and high dose group (60 mg/kg). Bilateral common carotid arteries were occluded in rats to establish vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) model.

[Current status and prospect of treatment for severe community acquired pneumonia].

Zhonghua Wei Zhong Bing Ji Jiu Yi Xue

June 2019

Chinese Critical Care Medicine Magazine, Tianjin 300050, China. Corresponding author: Song Yuanlin, Email:

Severe community acquired pneumonia (SCAP) has raised substantial concern due to high morbidity and mortality. SCAP is usually associated with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and sepsis. It is suggested that organ function and coagulation/fibrinolysis improvement, organ injury reduction and organ repair facilitation are highly required besides microbiology detection and optimization of antibiotics strategy on treatment of SCAP.

miR-3940-5p associated with genetic damage in workers exposed to hexavalent chromium.

Toxicol Lett

August 2014

Department of Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, Peking University, China. Electronic address:

To understand the regulation of genetic damage by epigenetics at the early stage of carcinogenesis after hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) and assessed genetic damage to explore their association with DNA repair genes mediated by differently expressed miRNA. Genetic damages were evaluated using cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay (CBMN) and serum 8-hydroxyguanine (8-OHdG) ELISA assay. Blood Cr level showed significant association with plasma miR-3940-5p level (r=-0.

Methods: Forty-five male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal group (n=12), model group (n=11), salazosulfapyridine (SASP) group (n=11) and MSD group (n=11). The UC model was induced by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)/ethanol solution.

Both hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)] exposure and folate deficiency have been associated with increased cancer risks. Our previous studies have found folate deficiency in Cr (VI) exposed population. Here the relationship between some tumor markers and folate status in long-term Cr (VI) exposure was investigated carefully to show the multiple aspects of Cr (VI) carcinogenesis.

Objective: To investigate and compare the efficacy and safety of two kinds of Qinbai ointment prepared conventionally and finely (C-QBO and F-QBO) in treating psoriasis in the active stage of blood-heat syndrome type, and to observe their influences on vaginal epithelial cell mitosis, also on keratinization of caudal flakes in mice.

Clinical Observation: Adopting randomized, single-blinded, controlled design, 93 patients administered orally with Liangxue Huoxue Decoction were randomized into three groups treated externally with C-QBO, F-QBO and white vaseline respectively, applied twice a day for 8 weeks. The safety was checked and the changes of modified psoriasis area severity index (PASI), as well as the conditions of skin lesions (size, erythema, infiltration, squama, and itching) and symptom improving time were compared.
