Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces

January 2025

Beijing Institute of Ophthalmology, Beijing TongRen Eye Center, Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

In this study, a simple but novel preparation method was developed by heating a mixture of dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (DG) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) in aqueous solution, and a DG self-assembled nanomicelles-loading BDMC (named B@DNM) ophthalmic solution was successfully fabricated with this heating-driven process. AutoDock simulation analysis revealed that Pi-Alkyl hydrophobic interactions between BDMC and DG played important role in this self-assembled B@DNM. The optimized B@DNM, with a DG:BDMC mass ratio of 40:1 and heating time of 6 h, had a high encapsulation efficacy of 96.

Objective: Characterizing the neuropathological features of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder-related optic neuritis (NMOSD-ON) is crucial for understanding its mechanisms. Given the important role of dynamic features in the brain's functional architecture, we aim to investigate the dynamic features of spontaneous brain activity and their concordance using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in NMOSD-ON.

Methods: Fourteen NMOSD-ON patients and 21 healthy controls (HCs) underwent rs-fMRI and ophthalmological examinations.

A speech intelligibility (SI) prediction model is proposed that includes an auditory preprocessing component based on the physiological anatomy and activity of the human ear, a hierarchical spiking neural network, and a decision back-end processing based on correlation analysis. The auditory preprocessing component effectively captures advanced physiological details of the auditory system, such as retrograde traveling waves, longitudinal coupling, and cochlear nonlinearity. The ability of the model to predict data from normal-hearing listeners under various additive noise conditions was considered.

State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines, Beijing Key Laboratory of Non-Clinical Drug Metabolism and PK/PD Study, Beijing Key Laboratory of Active Substances Discovery and Drug Ability Evaluation, Department of Drug Metabolism, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100050, China. Electronic address:

Organic cation transporter 1 (OCT1, gene symbol: SLC22A1) is mainly responsible for the hepatic uptake of various cationic drugs, closely associated with drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Screening and identifying potent OCT1 inhibitors with little toxicity in natural products is of great value in alleviating OCT1-mediated liver injury. Flavonoids, a group of polyphenols commonly found in foodstuffs and herbal products, have been reported to cause transporter-mediated food/herb-drug interactions (FDIs).

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a heterogeneous disease that affects a large proportion of the global population. The treatment of CRSwNP, especially eosinophilic CRSwNP (ECRSwNP), has always been of great obstacle. Our previous phase 2 trial showed that CM310, a monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-4 receptor alpha, was both safe and effective in reducing the size of nasal polyps, improving symptom scores, and increasing the quality of life for those with severe ECRSwNP.

Expert consensus on the diagnosis and therapy of endo-periodontal lesions.

Int J Oral Sci

September 2024

Department of Periodontology, Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Institute of Stomatology, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.

Endo-periodontal lesions (EPLs) involve both the periodontium and pulp tissue and have complicated etiologies and pathogenic mechanisms, including unique anatomical and microbiological characteristics and multiple contributing factors. This etiological complexity leads to difficulties in determining patient prognosis, posing great challenges in clinical practice. Furthermore, EPL-affected teeth require multidisciplinary therapy, including periodontal therapy, endodontic therapy and others, but there is still much debate about the appropriate timing of periodontal therapy and root canal therapy.

B10 cells regulate macrophage polarization to alleviate inflammation and bone loss in periodontitis.

J Periodontol

August 2024

Department of Oral Science and Translation Research, College of Dental Medicine, Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of B10 cells in regulating macrophage polarization during periodontitis inflammation, focusing on their effect on different macrophage phenotypes (M1 and M2).
  • - Results show that B10 cells reduce the expression of inflammatory markers in macrophages while promoting anti-inflammatory markers, indicating they help shift the balance from M1 to M2 polarization in periodontitis.
  • - The findings suggest that B10 cells could alleviate periodontitis by influencing macrophage behavior, although the depletion of macrophages reduced the effectiveness of B10 cells' regulatory role.
