Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital University of Medical Sciences, Key Laboratory Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, Beijing 100730, China.

Objective: To conduct a histopathology study of adolescents with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) to compare the sinus mucosa with adult CRS and to explore their different pathological characteristics and lesion patterns.

Methods: Twenty cases of adolescents (median age: 14 years; range: 11-16 years) and 16 cases of adult CRS (median age: 36 years; range: 21-56 years) were performed functional endoscopy operation despite conventional medical therapy, histopathology of uncinate process mucosa were analyzed for inflammatory cell and morphologic studies. Archival tissue from adolescents and adults with CRS were stained with HE, AB-PAS (alcian blue-periodic acid-schiff) as well as Van Gieson.

Objective: To search for a non-culture method to improve the efficiency of etiological diagnosis of infective endophthalmitis and other infectious diseases.

Methods: Fifty clinical specimens of infective endophthalmitis were collected. DNA of bacterium was extracted directly from the aqueous fluid or vitreous fluid and then amplified with universal primers.

March 2007

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital University of Medical Sciences,Beijing, 100730, China.

Objective: To observe the olfactory bulb's morphological change after ischemic injury in rats, and explore the role of vascular factor in olfactory disorders.

Method: Forty adult SD rats (weighting 250-300 g) were used, 30 of which were treated with permanent bilateral occlusion of both common carotid arteries, and the others were served as the control. The olfactory bulbs were carefully taken out on the 1st week, 4th week, 2nd month post operation, respectively, then observed the morphological changes by light microscopy.

Objective: To obtain the recombinant Eotaxin N Terminal Mutant (Met/Eotaxin) adenovirus, and to study its role in allergic diseases.

Methods: A 400 bp DNA fragment of Eotaxin was cloned from human peripheral blood monocyte (PBMC), and the Met/Eotaxin DNA fragment was obtained by NH2-terminal mutant. Then, this DNA fragment was inserted into AdEasy transfer vector -pAdtrack-CMV plasmid.

Objective: To find out the polysomnography (PSG) indexes that reflex the degree of pathology of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).

Methods: Six hundred and twenty-one male OSAHS patients, aged over 21, underwent measurement of weight, height, and neck circumference. Polysomnography was conducted to detect the apnea and hypopnea index (AHI), apnea and hypopnea time (AHT), and apnea and hypopnea time index (AHTI).

August 2005

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital University of Medical Sciences, Beijing 100730, China.

Objective: To describe the relevant factors of endoscopic surgery in patients with nasal septal perforation.

Methods: Twenty-three patients with nasal septal perforation were treated under nasal endoscope. Four kinds of reconstruction materials were used to accomplish the closure of perforation: residual osseous septum or temporalis fascia, inverting septal mucoperichondrial flap, autologous connective tissue insert overlaid with mucous flaps and turbinate flap.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of applying flash visual evoked potentials (FVEPs) for visual function test newborns and infants and bring out the consultable laboratory values of FVEPs. The technology of FVEP could be used as diagnostic tests for those who failed the screening and the infants who were cared for in the NICU.

Methods: 41 normal neonates ( View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Objective: To observe the common characteristics of pathological morphology and immunohistochemical staining of olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB), and to raise the diagnostic ability for ONB.

Methods: 34 cases of ONB, 11 cases of rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) and 76 cases of malignant lymphoma (ML) were collected, the clinical information were investigated, and the biopsy samples were stained and observed as follows: (1) Routine HE staining and viewed under the light microscope. (2) Expression of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), chromogranin-A (CgA), leukocyte common antigen (LCA), desmin, and sarcometic actin (S-actin) were determined in both ONB and RMS cases.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to bring out the consultable laboratory values of synchronous evoked potential in normal neonates and infants, investigate the characteristic of the electric response waveform, and explore its feasibility on applying to newborn auditory and visual function test as an electric physiology detection method.

Methods: It was applied to go on measuring 19 cases of mature normal neonate (< or =4 days) and 11 cases of infants (< or =5 months), also comparing with the study of ABRs, FVEPs independently.

Results: Get the electric response wave form results of synchronous electric evoked potential in both groups of newborn-infants, through comparing with the result of independent ABRs and FVEPs, the monitoring result demonstrated that there were an extreme significant changes of the corresponding parameters (wave I, III, V latency) (P<0.

Objective: To analyze magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of confusable tumors including cavernous hemangioma, cavernous lymphangioma and neurilemmoma located at orbital apex, which could provide evidences for diagnosis and surgical treatment.

Methods: MRI was performed on 16 cases with tumors of orbital apex confirmed by pathology, and their MRI findings were analyzed.

Results: The time taken to attain complete enhancement after contrast on MRI was significantly different in the three types of tumor (P < 0.
