Background: Malignant ascites is one of the severe complications of hepatocellular carcinoma, which can be regarded as a unique tumor microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma. The identification of novel biomarkers in malignant ascites could be crucial to differentiate patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and cirrhotic ascites.
Objective: The study aimed to distinguish the metabolomics of malignant ascites in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma from that of non-malignant ascites (cirrhotic ascites).

The time-varying brain activity may parallel the disease progression of cerebral glioma. Assessment of brain dynamics would better characterize the pathological profile of glioma and the relevant functional remodeling. This study aims to investigate the dynamic properties of functional networks based on sliding-window approach for patients with left frontal glioma.

Objective: We retrospectively compared the clinical outcomes of self-expanding covered stents (CSs) and bare metal stents (BMSs) in the treatment of aortoiliac occlusive disease (AIOD) at a single center between 2016 and 2022.
Methods: All patients with AIOD receiving endovascular therapy at a single center from January 2016 to October 2022 were continuously analyzed, including patients with lesions of all classes according to the Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus II (TASC-II). Relevant clinical and baseline data were collected, and propensity score matching was performed to compare CSs and BMSs in terms of baseline characteristics, surgical factors, 30-day outcomes, 5-year primary patency, and limb salvage.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignant solid tumours, and abnormal metabolic reprogramming in the tumour microenvironment is regarded as an important contributor to its pathogenesis.
Objectives: As there is an urgency to identify new targets based on the metabolic features that are highly refractory to PDAC treatment, this study aimed to identify suitable therapeutic targets for PDAC.
Methods: In this study, gene set enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses were performed on 163 PDAC tissue samples and 165 normal pancreatic tissue samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases to identify alterations in critical metabolites that may contribute to PDAC pathogenesis.

Encequidar, a gut-specific P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibitor, makes oral paclitaxel possible, and has been used in clinical treatment of metastatic breast cancer, however, its pharmacological effect and mechanism of reversal of drug resistance in drug-resistant colon cancer cells SW620/AD300 are still unknown. Herein, we first synthesized encequidar and demonstrated that it could inhibit the transport activity of P-gp, reduced doxorubicin (DOX) efflux, enhanced DOX cytotoxicity and promoted tumor-apoptosis in SW620/AD300 cells. Metabolomic analysis of cell samples was performedusing liquid chromatography Q-Exactive mass spectrometer, the results of metabolite enrichment analysis and pathway analysis showed that the combination of encequidar and DOX could: i) significantly affect the citric acid cycle (TCA cycle) and reduce the energy supply required for P-gp to exert its transport activity; ii) affect the metabolism of glutathione, which is the main component of the anti-oxidative stress system, and reduce the ability of cells to resist oxidative stress; iii) increase the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and enhance ROS-induced cell damage and lipid peroxidation, which in turn restore the sensitivity of drug-resistant cells to DOX.

Background Microscopic vascular events, such as neovascularization and neurovascular uncoupling, are common in cerebral glioma. Mapping the cerebrovascular network remodeling at the macroscopic level may provide an alternative approach to assess hemodynamic dysregulation in patients with glioma. Purpose To investigate cerebrovascular dynamics and their relevance to tumor aggressiveness by using time-shift analysis (TSA) of the systemic low-frequency oscillation (sLFO) of the resting-state blood oxygenation level-dependent signal and a decision tree model.

Glioblastoma (GBM), the most common malignant primary brain cancer in adults, nearly always becomes resistant to current treatments, including the chemotherapeutic temozolomide (TMZ). The long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) TMZ-associated lncRNA in GBM recurrence () promotes GBM resistance to TMZ. Exosomes can release biochemical cargo into the tumor microenvironment (TME) or transfer their contents, including lncRNAs, to other cells as a form of intercellular communication.

Background: Atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability is a key feature of atheroprogression and precipitating acute cardiovascular events. Although the pivotal role of epigenetic regulation in atherosclerotic plaque destabilization is being recognized, the DNA methylation profile and its potential role in driving the progression and destabilization of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remains largely unknown. We conducted a genome-wide analysis to identify differentially methylated genes in vulnerable and non-vulnerable atherosclerotic lesions to understand more about pathogenesis.

Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) are associated with poor patient survival because of the absence of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expressions. Our previous studies have shown that the triterpenoid saponin AG8 from stapf. inhibits the proliferation of MDA-MB-231 cells.

Glioma is a fatal brain tumor characterized by rapid proliferation and treatment resistance. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered programmed cell death and plays a crucial role in the occurrence and progression of tumors. In this study, we identified ferroptosis specific markers to reveal the relationship between ferroptosis-related genes and glioma by analyzing whole transcriptome data from Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas, The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset, GSE16011 dataset, and the Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data dataset.

MicroRNAs (miRs) have been extensively studied for their involvement in multiple sclerosis (MS). We investigated the involvement of miR-134-3p on MS. The MS rat model was established, and positive expression of interleukin-17 (IL-17) was detected using the immunohistochemical method while the expression of miR-134-3p and serine protease 57 (PRSS57) was determined by means of reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blot analysis.
