Appropriate selection of ipsilateral or contralateral electroacupuncture (corresponding to the pain site) plays an important role in reaching its better curative effect; however, the involving brain mechanism still remains unclear. Compared with the heat pain model generally established in previous study, capsaicin pain model induces reversible cutaneous allodynia and is proved to be better simulating aspects of clinical nociceptive and neuropathic pain. In the current study, 24 subjects were randomly divided into two groups with a 2 × 2 factorial design: laterality (ipsi- or contralateral side, inter-subject) × treatment with counter-balanced at an interval of one week (verum and placebo electroacupuncture, within-subject).

Inhibition of fatty acid synthase suppresses neovascularization via regulating the expression of VEGF-A in glioma.

J Cancer Res Clin Oncol

December 2016

Brain Tumor Research Center, Beijing Neurosurgical Institute, Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tiantan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, Beijing Laboratory of Biomedical Materials, Tiantan Xili 6, Dongcheng District, Beijing, 100050, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Fatty acids (FAs) are essential for membrane lipids biosynthesis and energy consumption in cancer cells. De novo FAs synthesis is catalyzed by fatty acid synthase (FASN), which is overexpressed and correlates with histological grade in glioma. Herein, we focused on the role of FASN in glioma neovascularization.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the potential association between IDH mutation and O-methyl-guanine methyl transferase (MGMT) gene promoter methylation and pseudoprogression disease (psPD) in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients after concurrent temozolomide (TMZ)-based chemoradiotherapy.

Methods: A total of 157 GBM patients who received concurrent TMZ-based chemoradiotherapy were included in this retrospective study. The association between psPD and a number of demographic and genetic factors, including IDH mutation and MGMT promoter methylation, were analyzed based on logistic regression, Cox regression, and multivariate analysis.

Objective: To investigate changes of vision-related resting-state activity in pituitary adenoma (PA) patients with visual damage through comparison to healthy controls (HCs).

Methods: 25 PA patients with visual damage and 25 age- and sex-matched corrected-to-normal-vision HCs underwent a complete neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation, including automated perimetry, fundus examinations, and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol, including structural and resting-state fMRI (RS-fMRI) sequences. The regional homogeneity (ReHo) of the vision-related cortex and the functional connectivity (FC) of 6 seeds within the visual cortex (the primary visual cortex (V1), the secondary visual cortex (V2), and the middle temporal visual cortex (MT+)) were evaluated.

It is very desirable to design multifunctional nanocomposites for theranostic applications via flexible strategies. The synthesis of one new multifunctional polycationic Au nanorod (NR)-coated Fe3 O4 nanosphere (NS) hierarchical nanocomposite (Au@pDM/Fe3 O4 ) based on the ternary assemblies of negatively charged Fe3 O4 cores (Fe3 O4 -PDA), polycation-modified Au nanorods (Au NR-pDM), and polycations is proposed. For such nanocomposites, the combined near-infrared absorbance properties of Fe3 O4 -PDA and Au NR-pDM are applied to photoacoustic imaging and photothermal therapy.

Background: Danhong injection (DHI) has been widely prescribed to patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, due to methodological deficiencies, previous research has not yet provided rigorous evidence to support the use of DHI in the treatment of AIS. Therefore, we designed this multicenter, randomized, controlled, and double-blind trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DHI for AIS.

Tumefactive demyelinating lesions (TDLs), are a rare demyelinating pathological disease in the central neurological system, which have been proven to be a diagnostic dilemma to neurosurgeons. The clinical presentation and radiographic appearance of these lesions often results in their misdiagnosis as intracranial tumors, such as gliomas, which leads to unnecessary surgical resection and adjunct radiation. In the present study, the clinical and radiographic features of 14 patients with cerebral TDLs who underwent surgical treatment between January 2004 and January 2009 were reviewed and analyzed.

Malignant melanoma causes skin cancer with high rates of mortality. Multinucleated giant cells (MGCs) are frequently observed in tumor pathological analysis, especially in metastasized sites, and are related to poor prognosis. However, the role of MGCs in melanoma development and metastasis is currently unknown.

Background: Although many epidemiologic studies have investigated the cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) exon 7 gene polymorphism and its association with lung cancer (LC), definitive conclusions cannot be drawn.

Objective: To clarify the effects of CYP1A1 exon 7 polymorphism on the risk of LC, an updated meta-analysis was performed in the Chinese population.

Methods: Related studies were identified from PubMed, Springer Link, Ovid, the Chinese Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the Chinese Biology Medicine (CBM) databases until October 2014.

To explore the correlation between epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status and the risk of brain metastasis (BM) in patients with lung adenocarcinoma, the clinical data of 100 patients with pathologically confirmed lung adenocarcinoma and known EGFR mutation status at exon 18, 19, 20, or 21 were analyzed retrospectively. The incidence of BM was similar between patients with wild-type EGFR and those with EGFR mutations (p = 0.48).

May 2015

Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tiantan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University; Beijing Neurosurgery Institute, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100050, China.

Background: The aim of this research was to investigate the changes in the vision-related resting-state network (V-RSN) in pituitary adenoma (PA) patients after vision improvement, which was induced by operative treatment.

Methods: Ten PA patients with an improved visual acuity or/and visual field after transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection were recruited and underwent a complete neuro-ophthalmologic evaluation, as well as an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol, including structural and resting-state functional MRI sequences before and after the operation. The regional homogeneity (ReHo) of the V-RSN was evaluated.
