Bloodstream infections remain prevalent in intensive care units, leading to a public health challenge worldwide. Routine diagnosis is mainly based on blood culture, but the technique is limited by its time-consuming process and relatively low sensitivity. Emerging molecular diagnostic tools, such as 16S metagenomics, have been developed for detecting bacteria in the blood samples of septic patients.

Objectives: To evaluate, in a Chinese population, the performance of a screening strategy for preterm pre-eclampsia (PE) using The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF)'s competing-risks model and to explore its clinical applicability in mainland China.

Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, observational cohort study including 10 899 women with singleton pregnancy who sought prenatal care at one of 13 hospitals, located in seven cities in mainland China, between 1 December 2017 and 30 December 2019. Mean arterial pressure (MAP), uterine artery pulsatility index (UtA-PI) and maternal serum levels of placental growth factor (PlGF) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) at 11 + 0 to 13 + 6 weeks' gestation were measured and converted into multiples of the median using Chinese reference ranges.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between knee morphology and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures in adults, noting a gap in existing research on this specific relationship.
  • It involved 76 patients with PCL avulsion fractures and 76 matched controls, comparing various MRI knee measurements, such as intercondylar notch width index and tibial slopes, using statistical methods.
  • The results indicated that while women showed significant differences in certain knee morphologies linked to PCL injuries, no differences were found in men, with the coronal notch width index identified as a potential independent risk factor for PCL avulsion fractures in females.

Regulatory B cells (Breg) are widely regarded as immunomodulatory cells which play an immunosuppressive role. Breg inhibits pathological autoimmune response by secreting interleukin-10 (IL-10), transforming growth factor- (TGF-), and adenosine and through other ways to prevent T cells and other immune cells from expanding. Recent studies have shown that different inflammatory environments induce different types of Breg cells, and these different Breg cells have different functions.
