Background: The colorectal cancer mortality rate in China has exceeded that in many developing countries and is expected to further increase owing to multiple factors, including the aging population. However, the optimal policy for colorectal cancer screening is unknown.
Methods: We synthesized the most up-to-date data using a 12-state Markov model populated with a cohort of Chinese men and women born during 1949-1988, and evaluated 16 conventional and 40 risk-tailored schemes for colorectal cancer screening, considering possible combinations of age (starting at 40 + years and ending at 75 years), frequency, and strategy (standard colonoscopy, fecal immunochemical testing with colonoscopy if positive, or risk-tailored).

Background: Insufficient nocturnal sleep was associated with a higher risk of fibrosis in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Dietary fiber intake may improve the stimulate the secretion of sleep cytokines, inhibit the inflammatory pathway, contribute to regulating sleep disorders and alleviate liver fibrosis. The associations of dietary fiber intake, sleep patterns, with liver fibrosis remain unclear.

Background: Critical cerebrospinal fluid hypovolemia (CCSFH) is a rare postcraniotomy condition in patients with acute supratentorial brain injury, often mistaken for intracranial hypertension. This article aims to enhance awareness of CCSFH by describing its clinical and radiological characteristics.
Methods: Between January 2019 and November 2023, 330 consecutive patients with acute critical brain injury underwent supratentorial craniotomy.

Purpose: MicroRNA-34c-5p (miR-34c-5p) plays a pivotal role in bone remodeling, yet its therapeutic potential is hindered by challenges such as instability, limited cellular internalization, and immune responses. This study was aimed at developing innovative scaffolds capable of efficiently delivering microRNAs (miRNAs), specifically miR-34c-5p.
Methods: Chitosan (CS)/sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP)/sodium alginate (SA) scaffolds, referred to as CTS scaffolds, were synthesized at a specific ratio and characterized using dynamic light scattering and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a globally acknowledged diagnostic procedure particularly recognized for its superior soft tissue contrast, high-resolution imaging, and non-ionizing radiation properties, making it an indispensable tool in the medical field. However, to optimize MRI's sensitivity and specificity towards certain diseases, use of contrast agents becomes necessary. Recent developments focus on nanomaterial-based MRI contrast agents to improve diagnostic accuracy and image quality.

While numerous needle-based continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices have been available today, the insufficient enzyme immobilization on monitoring sensor severely limited the detection sensitivity of CGM devices. This manuscript describes here a high-sensitivity continuous glucose sensor (CGS) by engineering a porous 3D cellulose/carbon nanotube (CNT) network on the working electrode, which subcutaneously increases the detection enzyme capacity and thus significantly enhances the signal intensity and sensitivity. Furthermore, a tapered needle made of soft resin is engraved into three distinct microgrooves where the glucose oxidase (GOD)-modified working electrode, Pt-modified counter electrode, and Ag/AgCl-modified reference electrode are separately constructed inside the microgrooves.

Background: High circulatory lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] concentration promotes atherosclerosis; however, its efficacy in predicting the extent of atherosclerotic coronary heart disease (CHD) with coronary artery obstruction and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in diabetic patients remains questionable. This study aimed to examine whether elevated circulating Lp(a) levels exacerbate CHD and to assess their utility in predicting MACEs in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: In total, 4332 patients diagnosed with T2DM who underwent coronary angiography (CAG) were included and categorized into two groups (CHD and non-CHD) based on the CAG results.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the use of machine learning methodologies in the diagnosis of endometriosis (EM).
Methods: This study included a total of 106 patients with EM and 203 patients with non-EM conditions (like simple cysts and simple uterine fibroids), all admitted to the Shunyi Women's and Children's Hospital of Beijing Children's Hospital between January 2017 and September 2022. All participants were free of comorbidities and their diagnoses were confirmed via postoperative pathology.

Background: Preference-based measures of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), such as the EQ-5D or the SF-6D, are essential for health economic evaluation. However, they are rarely included in clinical trials of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). This study aims to develop mapping algorithms to predict EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-5L health utility scores from the Bath Ankylosing Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI).
