Background: Consensus guidelines recommend the use of multiple antiemetics as prophylaxis in patients at high risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), but the evidence regarding combining acupuncture and antiemetics as a multimodal approach was of very low quality.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of combinations of acupuncture with ondansetron versus ondansetron alone for PONV prophylaxis in women at a high risk.

Methods: This parallel, randomised controlled trial was conducted in a tertiary hospital in China.

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA and p16 positivity have crucial roles in the pathogenesis of vulvar cancer and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia. We aimed to examine the pooled prevalence of HPV DNA and p16 positivity in vulvar cancer and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia worldwide.

Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases for studies published between Jan 1, 1986, and May 6, 2022, that reported the prevalence of HPV DNA, or p16 positivity, or both, in histologically verified vulvar cancer or vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia.

The interaction of sperm with the oocyte is pivotal during the process of mammalian fertilization. The limited numbers of sperm that reach the fallopian tube as well as anatomic restrictions indicate that human sperm-oocyte encounter is not a matter of chance but a directed process. Chemotaxis is the proposed mechanism for re-orientating sperm toward the source of a chemoattractant and hence to the oocyte.

Single-cell sequencing technology is a promising systematic and comprehensive approach to delineate clonal associations between cells. The present study collected 13 and 12 cervical cells from fresh tumour tissue prior to and following radiotherapy, respectively, from a 46-year-old female patient with exogenous-type cervical carcinoma. Next, single-cell whole-genome sequencing analysis was performed on each cell.

The pathological mechanism of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‑induced liver injury involves a number of inflammatory mediators and cytokines. Angiotensin (Ang)‑(1‑7), a ligand for the proto‑oncogene Mas (Mas) receptor, antagonizes the actions of Ang II in the renin angiotensin system and exerts an anti‑inflammatory effect on LPS‑induced macrophages. The present study investigated the potential role of Ang‑(1‑7) in the regulation of inflammatory responses in LPS‑induced hepatocytes using the rat liver BRL cell line.

Article Synopsis
  • A diagnostic model was created to predict acute Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in elderly patients with community-acquired pneumonia, analyzing 456 individuals.
  • Key factors for prediction included age 70+, elevated serum cTNT levels, lobar consolidation, mediastinal lymphadenopathy, and specific antibody titer levels.
  • The model achieved a high diagnostic accuracy with an ROC curve score of 0.923, indicating that a score of 7 or higher suggests an acute M. pneumoniae infection in this patient group.

Connective tissue growth factor mediates growth differentiation factor 8-induced increase of lysyl oxidase activity in human granulosa-lutein cells.

Mol Cell Endocrinol

October 2016

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Child & Family Research Institute, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia V5Z 4H4, Canada. Electronic address:

Lysyl oxidase (LOX) is an essential enzyme for the stabilization of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and the subsequent follicle and oocyte maturation. Currently, there is limited information pertaining to the regulation of LOX activity in human ovarian tissue. Growth differentiation factor 8 (GDF8) is a unique member of the transforming growth factor-β superfamily that is expressed in human granulosa cells and has important roles in regulating a variety of ovarian functions.

Oestetrol stimulates proliferation and oestrogen receptor expression in breast cancer cell lines: comparison of four oestrogens.

Eur J Contracept Reprod Health Care

February 2015

* Department of Gynaecological Endocrinology, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing , China.

Objectives: Oestetrol (15-alpha-hydroxyoestriol, E₄) is an endogenous oestradiol metabolite mainly produced at high concentrations in the fetal liver. In earlier studies E₄ was investigated for its use as marker for pregnancies at risk, especially with vascular problems. Some current investigations suggest that the use of E4 in hormone therapy or contraception may have advantages in terms of breast cancer risk when compared to other oestrogens.
