Background: The evidence for different frequencies of acupuncture treatment in postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) is insufficient. This study determined whether 3 sessions per week of acupuncture treatment are superior to 1 session per week for symptomatic outcomes in PDS.

Methods: This 16-week randomized clinical pilot trial was conducted in an outpatient setting in China.

Rationale: Giant keloids often have indications for surgical resection, but postoperative reconstruction of the skin and high recurrence of keloids are a challenge for clinical treatment. This article reports a rare successful treatment of a giant keloid in the anterior chest wall by multistage surgery combined with radiotherapy, which is why this case is meaningful.

Patient Concerns: A 66-year-old woman presented a giant keloid with ulcerations and severe itching on the anterior chest wall.

Objective: To investigate the roles played by A2b receptor and the key Ca signaling components in the mediation of the cardioprotection of electroacupuncture pretreatment in the rats subjected to myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.

Methods: SD rats were randomly divided into a normal control (NC) group, ischemia/reperfusion model (M) group, electroacupuncture pretreatment (EA) group, and electroacupuncture pretreatment plus A2b antagonist (EAG) group. The ischemia/reperfusion model was made by ligation and loosening of the left descending branch of the coronary artery in all groups except the NC group.

Objective: To investigate the effects of berberine on learning and memory ability in vascular cognitive impairment rats.

Methods: Sixty-eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group (n=10), sham operated group (n=10) and the modeling group of vascular cognitive impairment rat (n=48), then the rats in modeling group were randomly divided into four groups (n=10): vehicle group, berberine low dose group (20 mg/kg), medium dose group (40 mg/kg) and high dose group (60 mg/kg). Bilateral common carotid arteries were occluded in rats to establish vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) model.

To better understand the hepatotoxicity of anthraquinone glycosides, the hepatotoxicity of six anthraquinone glycosides was evaluated. The results show that chrysophanol-8-O-glucoside(C8G) has strong hepatotoxicity and can lead to increased LDH leakage and ROS, decreased GSH and MMP in L-02 hepatocytes. The results of C8G hepatotoxicity proteomics shows that, a total of 773 differentially expressed proteins were screened and analyzed using GO analysis and Pathway enrichment analysis.

Background: This study aims to determine whether 3 sessions per week of acupuncture treatment is superior to 1 session per week of acupuncture treatment for symptomatic outcomes in knee osteoarthritis.

Methods/design: This is a two parallel-group, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Sixty patients with knee osteoarthritis (Kellgren-Lawrence grade II or III) will be recruited and randomly allocated to receive 24 or 8 sessions (group M or group L) of acupuncture treatment in a 1:1 ratio.

Rationale: Synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome is a rare auto-inflammatory disease with no standardized treatment. Systemic corticosteroids are only transiently effective, but long-term use would bring complications and would not bring long-term remission. Bone scintigraphy is a first-line method for systematic evaluation of osteoarticular lesions but seems to show an "imprinting" pattern.

Backgroud: Patients with multiple infarct dementia (MID) have subtle deficits that commonly go unnoticed, and are at risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Oxidative stress induced by ischaemic injury results in intracellular calcium accumulation and neuronal apoptosis, leading to cognitive impairment by triggering various cellular signal transduction pathways. Several studies have suggested that NF-κB in the presence of p53 has a pro-apoptotic function in various models, but the mechanism is unclear.

Background: Collateral flow is associated with clinical outcomes for patients with Moyamoya disease and served as a parameter for patient selection of therapeutic strategies. Therefore, we explored whether a noninvasive imaging modality, computed tomography perfusion (CTP) source images (CTP-Sis), could be used to identify the presence and intensity of collateral flow using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as a gold standard for collateral flow.

Methods: CTP-Sis and DSA were performed for 24 patients with unilateral Moyamoya disease.

The current study aimed to explore the central mechanism of primary dysmenorrhea (PD) by investigating the alterations in resting state amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) between PD patients and healthy controls (HCs). A total of 34 female subjects including 20 PD patients and 14 HCs underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and arterial spin labeling technique (ASL) MRI during menstrual phase. Subsequently, the differences in ALFF and CBF were compared in the two groups.

Background: Psoriasis is a condition with a multifactorial etiopathogenesis worldwide, and plaque psoriasis, which is characterized by redness, thickness, and scaling, is the most common kind. Individuals living with psoriasis show low levels of life quality, and having fewer or less extensive lesions may improve spiritual and mental health. Therefore, our objective is to explore the effectiveness of acupuncture combined with herbal medicine for plaque psoriasis and to compare acupuncture combined with herbal medicine with herbal medicine alone.

Overcoming epidermal growth factor receptor resistance is a critical problem that needs to be solved in clinical practice. Drugs that downregulate the fatty acid synthase-epidermal growth factor receptor will become novel treatments for non-small cell lung cancer. Solanum nigrum, extracted with water at 4°C, shows strong cytotoxic activity and inhibits tumor growth in Lewis tumor bearing-mice in a dose-dependent manner.

Chin J Integr Med

February 2019

School of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, 050017, China.

The history of medical development shows that oriental medicine, or traditional medicine, was born through medical practice during the times when science and technology were immature and underdeveloped, whereas with the development of science and technology, Western medicine, or modern medicine, was born through experimental analysis and research. With the development of medicine, the pros and cons of both medical systems become increasingly evident. How to integrate them and learn from each other will be the direction of future development of medicine.

Clinical practice guideline on traditional Chinese medicine therapy alone or combined with antibiotics for sepsis is strictly in accordance with the latest diagnostic criteria for sepsis (sepsis-3) for the treatment of septic patients at different stages through syndrome differentiation. At present, the abuse of antibiotics and the prevalence of drug-resistant bacteria are very serious, without effective solutions. Thus, this is the first time to focus on traditional Chinese medicine combined with antibiotics to treat sepsis, in order to minimize the incidence of drug-resistant bacteria.
