Background: Patient-ventilator asynchrony (PVA) frequently occurs in mechanically ventilated patients within the ICU and has the potential for harm. Depending solely on the health care team cannot accurately and promptly identify PVA. To address this issue, our team has developed a cloud-based platform for monitoring mechanical ventilation (MV), comprising the PVA-RemoteMonitor system and the 24-h MV analysis report.

Supplementation of nicotinamide (NAM), the precursor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), may restore the energy metabolism homeostasis of ALD and thus serves as potential therapeutics to treat ALD. In this bedside-to-bench study, the protective effect of NAM against ALD was investigated by using the NIAAA mice model (chronic-plus-binge ethanol), and the liver regeneration boosting capability of NAM was evaluated by the partial hepatectomy mice model.

Dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) is an expansion of static FNC (sFNC) that reflects connectivity variations among brain networks. This study aimed to investigate changes in sFNC and dFNC strength and temporal properties in individuals with subthreshold depression (StD). Forty-two individuals with subthreshold depression and 38 healthy controls (HCs) were included in this study.

To analyze the current situation of myopia and its related factors among primary school students in a certain district of Beijing City in 2022, and provide a basis for the risk assessment of myopia among primary school students. In June 2022, a cluster sampling method was used to include 376 third-grade students from a primary school in a certain district of Beijing. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect basic information about students, including eye usage habits, reading and writing postures, and parents' myopia conditions.

Background: The Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a marker of insulin resistance, but its role in sarcopenia is controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of the TyG index with sarcopenia.
Methods: 4030 participants aged 20 years and above were selected from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for cross sectional study.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a common and serious complication during the acute phase of and after recovery from sepsis that seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used in modern medicine for neurological anomalies and has become a therapeutic tool for the treatment of SAE due to its multitargeting effects and low toxicity and side effects.
Aims Of The Study: This review provides insights into the pathogenesis and treatments of SAE, focusing on the clinical and experimental impacts of TCM formulations and their single components.

Gastrointestinal cancer (GIC) patients with tumor resection may experience surgical complications, economic burden, and weakened social connection, which could lead to adverse psychological status. Thus, this study aimed to explore multidimensional psychological status of these patients, encompassing loneliness, spiritual well-being, anxiety, depression, and attitudes to death. Totally, 210 GIC patients with tumor resection and 50 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled to complete the University of California Los Angeles loneliness (UCLA-LS), functional assessment of chronic illness therapy-spiritual well-being (FACIT-Sp), hospital anxiety and depression scale-anxiety/depression (HADS-A/D), and death attitude profile-revised (DAP-R) scales.

Patients with both CHD and depression have a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and worse outcome. TyG index may be able to predict the adverse prognosis of this special population.

Purpose: This study aimed to delineate the molecular processes underlying the therapeutic effects of berberine on UC by employing network pharmacology tactics, molecular docking, and dynamic simulations supported by empirical validations both in vivo and in vitro.
Patients And Methods: We systematically screened potential targets and relevant pathways affected by berberine for UC treatment from comprehensive databases, including GeneCards, DisGeNET, and GEO. Molecular docking and simulation protocols were used to assess the interaction stability between berberine and its principal targets.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents the most widespread neurodegenerative disorder, distinguished by a gradual onset and slow progression, presenting a substantial challenge to global public health. The mitochondrial-associated membrane (MAMs) functions as a crucial center for signal transduction and material transport between mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum, playing a pivotal role in various pathological mechanisms of AD. The dysregulation of mitochondrial quality control systems is considered a fundamental factor in the development of AD, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and subsequent neurodegenerative events.

Background: There is an association between migraine and dementia, however, their causal relationship remains unclear. This study employed bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the potential causal relationship between migraine and dementia and its subtypes: Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
Methods: Summary-level statistics data were obtained from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for both migraine and five types of dementia.

Background: Dysregulation of lipid metabolism is a key factor influencing the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Morroniside (MOR) is a major active compound isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Cornus officinalis, our previous research found that it can improve the lipid deposition of renal tubular epithelial cells. The purpose of this study is to explore whether MOR can improve podocyte lipid deposition and its mechanism of reducing DN.

Previous studies have confirmed that acupuncture for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) provided an additional benefit over usual care alone. Therefore, we performed a multicenter, randomized, sham-controlled trial to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture versus sham acupuncture for refractory IBS in patients in the context of conventional treatments. Patients in the acupuncture and sham acupuncture groups received real or sham acupuncture treatment in 3 sessions per week for a total of 12 sessions.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, with its prevalence linked to both genetic predisposition and environmental factors. Epigenetic modifications, particularly through histone deacetylases (HDACs), have been recognized for their significant influence on DM pathogenesis. This review focuses on the classification of HDACs, their role in DM and its complications, and the potential therapeutic applications of HDAC inhibitors.

Purpose: It is unclear how the Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index (cVAI) relates to metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in nonobese individuals. In this study, we evaluated the ability of the cVAI to predict MAFLD and elevated ALT in nonobese participants.
Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 541 nonobese subjects from March 2019 to January 2022 with the age range of 18-80 years.
