Molecular, ethno-spatial epidemiology of leprosy in China: novel insights for tracing leprosy in endemic and non endemic provinces.

Leprosy continues to be detected at near stable rates in China even with established control programs, necessitating new knowledge and alternative methods to interrupt transmission. A molecular epidemiology investigation of 190 patients was undertaken to define Mycobacterium leprae strain types and discern genetic relationships and clusters in endemic and non-endemic regions spanning seventeen provinces and two autonomous regions. The findings support multiple locus variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis as a useful tool in uncovering characteristic patterns across the multiethnic and divergent geographic landscape of China.

[Clinical follow-up study of ulnar styloid fractures and classification of distal radial fractures].

[Effects on development of the testicle in diet-induced obesity rats].

Objective: We established diet-induced obesity animal model and observed the influence of obesity on testicle of the male rats.

Methods: Rats in model group were fed with fat-enriched diet for 6 weeks. We measured the body weight and the testis weight and observed the development of testicle by microscope, and compared with those of control group.

Herpes simplex virus 1 inhibits apoptosis through a caspase-3-dependent pathway in primary cultures of cortical neuronal cells of fetal mice.

We could induce apoptosis in primary cultures of cortical neurons of fetal mice with ceramide or sorbitol. The induction was accompanied by an increase in caspase-3 (CAS-3) activity and depolarization of the inner mitochondrial membrane of neuronal cells which both could be reversed by Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) infection. We conclude tha HSV-1 infection inhibited the apoptosis, induced in neuronal cells by sorbitol or ceramide, via a CAS-dependent pathway.

MRI findings of eosinophilic myelomeningoencephalitis due to Angiostrongylus cantonensis.

Aim: To study the imaging characteristics of eosinophilic myelomeningoencephalitis due to Angiostrongylus cantonensis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Materials And Methods: Seventeen MRI examinations of the brain and spinal cord in five patients with angiostrongyliasis cantonensis of the central nervous system were performed. The final diagnosis was based on typical clinical symptoms, results of blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tests, and the presence of nematode larvae in the CSF.

[Changes of the circulating leptin levels and sexual development associated index in dietetic obese rats].

Methods: Dietetic obese model were established in female SD rats. Objective: To determine the reason of thrombocytopenia in patients with liver cirrhosis, we studied the relationship among platelet counts, serum thrombopoietin (TPO) level and spleen index.

Methods: Serum TPO, platelet counts and spleen index were measured in 71 cirrhotic patients. TPO was measured with ELISA method, spleen index were measured on ultrasonography by the same doctor.

[The contrast study of Pre-S1 protein, HBV-DNA and HBeAg in diagnosing viral replication in patients with chronic hepatitis B].

Objective: To determine the role of Pre-S1 protein in diagnosing viral replication in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Methods: 104 consecutive patients with chronic hepatitis B were included in the study, liver biopsy were performed in all patients. Serial serum samples were studied with the quantitative determination of HBV-DNA by a quantitative PCR assay, determination of Pre-S1 protein by ELISA.
