Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, PR China. Electronic address:

Objectives: In the present study with a large cohort, we aimed to characterize intracerebral seizure onset patterns (SOP) of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE), with or without hippocampal sclerosis (HS) as identified via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 255 seizures of 76 consecutive patients with mTLE explored by stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), including HS-mTLE (n = 52) and non-HS- mTLE (n = 24). Relevant results were obtained by a combination of spectral analysis and manual review.

Background: Danshen [Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Lamiaceae; Salviae miltiorrhizae radix et rhizoma)] class injections (DSCIs) are widely used in the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). However, there are various types of DSCIs available on the market, and it remains uncertain which DSCI has the best clinical efficacy, as well as which one is most effective in regulating inflammatory markers and oxidative stress indicators. The aim of this network meta-analysis (NMA) is to compare the therapeutic effects of different DSCIs to identify the optimal DSCI for the treatment of CHD.

Article Synopsis
  • A multicenter study was conducted to assess the effects of self-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (SCH) gel on endometrial recovery in 382 women post-artificial abortion, comparing SCH treatment with a control group.
  • Results showed that the SCH group had significantly greater endometrial thickness and fewer cases of reduced menstrual volume compared to the control group, indicating potential benefits of the gel for recovery.
  • While SCH gel also appeared to reduce dysmenorrhea, this difference was not statistically significant, and overall safety was affirmed with no serious adverse events associated with the treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined the link between physical activity (PA) levels and health status in adolescents aged 12-19 using a wearable device for accurate measurement of PA, rather than self-reported questionnaires.
  • Data from 2,241 adolescents were analyzed, focusing on health conditions like flu, stomach illness, head colds, and overall health, with results evaluated using statistical methods.
  • While no general correlation was found between average PA levels and health conditions, higher PA was associated with a lower risk of flu, head colds, and stomach illnesses, especially in younger adolescents, girls, and those who are obese.

Article Synopsis
  • The review covers 30 years of research linking infections to chronic respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis, particularly focusing on how infections contribute to these conditions.
  • Recent findings show that infections increase the risk of asthma flare-ups and may lead to bronchiectasis in certain individuals.
  • The article also discusses the immune system's role in chronic lung diseases, along with the challenges in diagnosing and treating these conditions while suggesting areas for future research.

Aim: To explore the impact of up- or down-regulation of Neurofibromin 2 (NF2) on the expression of downstream Hippo pathway genes, large tumor suppressor gene1 (LATS1), and phosphorylation of Mammalian Ste2-like kinases1/2 (MST1/2), in lung cancer cells.

Methods: A549 lung cancer cells were used. The NF2 was down-regulated by si-RNA interference and upregulated by lentiviral vector mediated overexpression.

Our study aimed to construct a predictive model for identifying instances of futile recanalization in patients with anterior circulation occlusion acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who achieved complete reperfusion following endovascular therapy. We included 173 AIS patients who attained complete reperfusion, as indicated by a Modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) scale score of 3. Our approach involved a thorough analysis of clinical factors, imaging biomarkers, and potential no-reflow biomarkers through both univariate and multivariate analyses to identify predictors of futile recanalization.

Glioblastoma (GBM) exhibits profound metabolic plasticity for survival and therapeutic resistance, while the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that GBM stem cells reprogram the epigenetic landscape by producing substantial amounts of phosphocreatine (PCr). This production is attributed to the elevated transcription of brain-type creatine kinase, mediated by Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1.

Objective: Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) is routinely used for presurgical evaluation in many epilepsy centers. Hypometabolic characteristics have been extensively examined in prior studies, but the metabolic patterns associated with specific pathological types of drug-resistant epilepsy remain to be fully defined. This study was developed to explore the relationship between metabolic patterns or characteristics and surgical outcomes in type I and II focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) patients based on results from a large cohort.
