Environ Res

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Soil & Sustainable Agriculture, Institute of soil science, Chinese academy of sciences, Nanjing 211135, China. Electronic address:

Layered double hydroxide intercalated with mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA-CFA) holds considerable promise for remediating cadmium (Cd)-contaminated soils through selective immobilization; however, its stability under acidic conditions has yet to be investigated. The acidic stability of MSA-CFA was investigated by acid stability investigation and simulated soil acidification. In the immersion test, the cadmium dissolution rate (DR) for the Cd immobilized products of MSA-CFA (MSA-CFA-Cd) was significantly lower (2.

Key Laboratory of Ecosystem Network Observation and Modeling, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, China; Earth Critical Zone and Flux Research Station of Xing'an Mountains, Chinese Academy of 15 Sciences, Daxing'anling, 165200, China; College of Resources and Environment, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 10049, China. Electronic address:

Accurate quantifying of methane (CH) emissions is a critical aspect of current research on regional carbon budgets. However, due to limitations in observational data, research methodologies, and an incomplete understanding of process mechanisms, significant uncertainties persist in the assessment of wetland CH fluxes in China. In this study, we developed a machine learning model by integrating measured CH fluxes with related environmental data to produce a high-resolution (1 km) dataset of CH fluxes from China's wetlands for the period 2000-2020.

January 2025

Department of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery, Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, 33 Badachu Road, Shijingshan District, Beijing 100144, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Autologous fat grafting is a widely used technique in plastic and reconstructive surgery, but its efficacy is often limited by the poor survival rate of transplanted adipose tissue. This study aims to enhance the survival of fat grafts by investigating the role of thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) in facilitating mitochondrial transfer from adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to adipocytes and newly formed blood vessels within the grafts via tunneling nanotubes (TNTs). We demonstrate that Tβ4 upregulates the Rac/F-actin pathway, leading to an increased formation of TNTs and subsequent transfer of mitochondria from ADSCs.

Horn is a defensive weapon of sheep, consisting of a horny sheath and a bony core. The KRT2 gene is related to keratinization of the epidermis, so it is likely to be one of the contributor genes affecting horn type in sheep. In this study, we first analyzed the species-specific and tissue-specific expression of the KRT2 gene using transcriptome sequencing data.

Electronic address:

Mycobacterium abscessus (Mab) poses serious therapeutic challenges, largely due to its intrinsic resistance to many antibiotics. The development of targeted therapeutic strategies necessitates the identification of bacterial factors that contribute to its reduced susceptibility to antibiotics and/or to the killing by its host cells. In this study, we discovered that Mab strains with disrupted mtrA, mtrB or both, or a gene-edited mtrA encoding MtrA with Tyr102Cys mutation, exhibited highly increased sensitivity to various drugs compared to the wild-type Mab.

The biological pathways connecting ambient fine particulate matter (PM)-induced initial adverse effects to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases are not fully understood. We hypothesize that lysoglycerophospholipids (LysoGPLs) are pivotal mediators of atherosclerosis induced by exposure to PM. This study investigated the changes of LysoGPLs in response to PM exposure and the mediation role of LysoGPLs in the pro-atherosclerotic effects of PM exposure.

Heat stress disturbs cellular homeostasis and alters the fitness of individual organisms. However, it is unclear whether thermal perturbations exacerbate the toxic effects of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs) on trophic endpoints in freshwater ecosystems. We conducted a mesocosm experiment to investigate the impact of warming and PFASs on the widespread submerged macrophytes (Hydrilla verticillata) at a molecular level.

Air pollution carries different disease burdens across all age groups, with the elderly and children being the most affected. Therefore, it is of practical significance to study air pollution exposure characteristics of different age groups in the context of accelerating aging in China. In this study, we used the number of people and air pollutant concentration data at the township-level scale (the smallest administrative unit in China) to calculate population-weighted PM concentration exposure (PM PWE) values of different age groups in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) region, quantified the pollution exposure differences among different groups, and analyzed the spatiotemporal changes in such differences and their driving factors.

Background: Machine learning models can reduce the burden on doctors by converting medical records into International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes in real time, thereby enhancing the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. However, it faces challenges such as small datasets, diverse writing styles, unstructured records, and the need for semimanual preprocessing. Existing approaches, such as naive Bayes, Word2Vec, and convolutional neural networks, have limitations in handling missing values and understanding the context of medical texts, leading to a high error rate.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) as a preventable and potentially fatal noncommunicable disease was believed to have a lower incidence in Asian populations compared to Western populations. However, the incidence and mortality rates of PE in China and the impact of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention system constructions on PE still lack nationwide evidence.

Methods: For this nationwide hospital-based observational study, we used data from the National Hospital Quality Monitoring System (HQMS) and public database in China.

Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China; State Key Laboratory of Environmental Criteria and Risk Assessment, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science, Beijing 100012, China.

The prevalence of heatwave and hypoxia events and their devastating impacts on aquatic ecosystems and fishery resources reinforces the priority of research to address the resilience and adaption mechanisms to these two stressors in important fish species. However, our understanding of the development of cross-tolerance of these two stressors in fish still limited. Here, we investigated the impacts of prior heatwave exposure on hypoxia tolerance and the underlying mechanisms in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), a species of considerable ecological and commercial importance.
