Aggregation-induced emission(AIE)for next-generation biosensing and imaging: A review.

Biosens Bioelectron

December 2024

Department of Academic Research, Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, National Center for Infectious Diseases, 8th Jingshun East Road, Beijing, 100015, China. Electronic address:

Luminescence technology is a powerful analytical tool for biomedical research as well as for marker detection. Luminescent materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties have attracted extensive research interest, and their unique luminescence characteristics, biocompatibility, and sensitivity make them useful for the development of fluorescence-turn-on biosensors with superior sensitivity. While numerous reviews have focused on the design of AIEgens, comprehensive summaries on the strategies for biosensor preparation and application fields remain limited.

Aims: High telomerase activity has been detected in over 85 % of tumors, with the activation of hTERT being the most crucial mechanism for re-establishing telomerase activity. Activation of hTERT maintains telomere length in cells, enabling cancer cells to proliferate indefinitely. Nevertheless, the specific mechanism of telomerase activation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unclear, and post-transcriptional regulation of hTERT could be a potential activation mechanism.

Background: Cancer stem cells are characterized by self-renewal, clonal tumor initiation capacity, and treatment resistance, which play essential roles in the tumor progression of prostate cancer (PCa). In this study, we aim to explore the features of cancer stemness and characterize the expression of stem cell-related genes for PCa.

Methods: We downloaded RNA-seq data and related clinical information from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database.

Impact of different antiretroviral therapy regimens on bone mineral density in people living with HIV: a retrospective and longitudinal study in China.

BMC Infect Dis

December 2024

Department of Infectious Disease, Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, No.8 Jingshun E St, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100015, China.

Background: HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy (ART) are associated with bone loss of people living with HIV (PLWH), but limited studies exist on the impacts of ART regimens on bone mineral density (BMD) in China. This study evaluated BMD changes with three common ART regimens: tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) + lamivudine (3TC) + efavirenz (EFV), tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)-containing, and dolutegravir (DTG)-containing (non-TDF/non-TAF) therapies.

Methods: In this retrospective study, the prevalence of low BMD was analyzed in PLWH who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) before ART initiation.

Background: The capacity of tertiary general hospitals to prevent and treat respiratory infectious diseases plays a key role in effectively containing the spread of major epidemics within hospitals and ensuring early treatment for patients. This, in turn, helps control the transmission of diseases at the societal level and safeguard public health. However, there is a lack of detailed indicators for assessing hospitals' capacity in this area, which makes it difficult to evaluate and manage practices.

Immunological characteristics in elderly COVID-19 patients: a post-COVID era analysis.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

December 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Background: Advanced age is a primary risk factor for adverse COVID-19 outcomes, potentially attributed to immunosenescence and dysregulated inflammatory responses. In the post-pandemic era, with containment measures lifted, the elderly remain particularly susceptible, highlighting the need for intensified focus on immune health management.

Methods: A total of 281 elderly patients were enrolled in this study and categorized based on their clinical status at the time of admission into three groups: non-severe (n = 212), severe survivors (n = 49), and severe non-survivors (n = 20).

Efficacy of nintedanib as a host-directed therapy candidate in the treatment of tuberculosis.

J Antimicrob Chemother

December 2024

Department of Pharmacology, Beijing Chest Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Background: The lengthy duration and high frequency of drug resistance associated with currently used antimycobacterial drug treatments have intensified the need for alternative therapies against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of TB.

Methods: MICs and intracellular macrophage cfu counts were tested to evaluate the antibacterial activity of nintedanib and pirfenidone against drug-susceptible and -resistant M. tuberculosis.

This study aimed to investigate the role of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). The optical cutoff values of the NLR and PNI were determined via time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. The associations between overall survival (OS) and various potential risk factors were analyzed.
