An OER catalyst showing both high activity and stability in promoting oxygen evolution is important for its practical application in electrochemical water-splitting. Here, we report the screening of such a catalyst by optimizing the Ni(II)-doping in Co(III)-based layered double hydroxides (LDHs). Such LDH samples tailored with Ni(II)-doping are prepared by an oxidative intercalation reaction where brucite-like Ni(II)Co(II)(OH) (0 ≤ ≤ 0.

Conventional dual-signal electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensors feature high sensitivity and reliability, but the involvement of coreactants inevitably results in a complex configuration and shows reproducibility risk. Here, we propose an exogenous coreactant-free dual-signal platform, comprising luminol (anodic luminophore), CdSe quantum dots (cathodic luminophore), and CoO/TiC electrocatalyst (coreaction promoter). At different redox potentials, CoO/TiC induces water oxidation and oxygen reduction to produce OH and O radicals, which subsequently drive cathodic and anodic ECL emission, respectively.

Solvent-controlled silver catalyzed radical transformation of α-imino-oxy acids with cyclic aldimines.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Lunan Institute of Intelligent Biomedical Engineering, College of Food Science and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Zaozhuang University, Zaozhuang, 277160, P. R. China.

A silver-catalyzed cross coupling of cyclic aldimines and α-imino-oxy acids has been developed. The solvent-dependent reaction could selectively deliver either cyclic imine moiety retained nitriles or ring-opened oxonitriles in moderate yields. The mechanistic studies show that the reaction undergoes a radical pathway.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between knee and ankle strength and horizontal deceleration performance following different sprint distances. Fifty-seven ( = 41male,  = 16 female) youth team-sports athletes completed: a) 5-m and 10-m horizontal deceleration ability (HDA) tests; b) concentric (60°/s, 180°/s) and eccentric (30°/s) relative peak torque (PT) measurements of the knee extensor (KE) and flexor (KF) muscles and the ankle plantarflexion (APF) and dorsiflexion (ADF) muscles in an isokinetic dynamometer. Pearson's correlation coefficients revealed that concentric at 60°/s and eccentric at 30°/s KE were mostly related to deceleration performance both in HDA ( = -0.

Engineering Research Center of Forestry Biomass Materials and Bioenergy (Ministry of Education), National Forest and Grass Administration Woody Spices (East China) Engineering Technology Research Center, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China.

Solar desalination is one of the effective means to alleviate water scarcity, in which aerogel-like evaporators have attracted extensive attention in the field of efficient desalination. However, the current preparation methods for aerogels still mainly rely on high-cost solutions, such as freeze-drying or supercritical drying. Herein, a preparation scheme for aerogels that can be realized under atmospheric pressure conditions is reported.

Background: The prevalence of brain metastases (BM) in lung cancer patients is notably high and is associated with poor prognoses. The efficacy of standard treatment regimens in improving intracranial progression-free survival (IPFS) for lung cancer BM is markedly limited. While traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been effective in enhancing the quality of life and prognosis of lung cancer patients, its efficacy in treating BM remains unreported.

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major obstacle in liver transplantation, especially with steatotic donor livers. Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota has been implicated in modulating IRI, and plays a pivotal role in regulating host inflammatory and immune responses, but its specific role in liver transplantation IRI remains unclear. This study explores whether can mitigate IRI and its underlying mechanisms.

Iron(II/III) Alters the Relative Roles of the Microbial Byproduct and Humic Acid during Chromium(VI) Reduction and Fixation by Soil-Dissolved Organic Matter.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Arable Land Conservation (Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtse River), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, College of Resources and Environment, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan 430070, China.

Though reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) to Cr(III) by dissolved organic matter (DOM) is critical for the remediation of polluted soils, the effects of DOM chemodiversity and underlying mechanisms are not fully elucidated yet. Here, Cr(VI) reduction and immobilization mediated by microbial byproduct (MBP)- and humic acid (HA)-like components in (hot) water-soluble organic matter (WSOM), (H)WSOM, from four soil samples in tropical and subtropical regions of China were investigated. It demonstrates that Cr(VI) reduction capacity decreases in the order WSOM > HWSOM and MBP-enriched DOM > HA-enriched DOM due to the higher contents of low molecular weight saturated compounds and CHO molecules in the former.

December 2025

Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Health for Research on Quality and Standardization of Biotech Products, Research Units of Innovative Vaccine Quality Evaluation and Standardization, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Food and Drug Control, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is a serious global public health problem and the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children and adults in China. Thus, developing and administering pneumococcal vaccines are important for disease prevention. The PPV23 and PCV13 vaccines are available in the Chinese market and are primarily produced by domestic manufacturers.

Constructing a built-in electric field by grafting strong electronegative small molecules for photocatalytic H production.

Chem Commun (Camb)

Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education for Geological Carbon Storage and Low Carbon Utilization of Resources, Beijing Key Laboratory of Materials Utilization of Nonmetallic Minerals and Solid Wastes, National Laboratory of Mineral Materials, School of Materials Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Beijing 100083, China.

Asymmetric carbon nitride (FCN) is developed by grafting strong electronegative small molecules onto CN. The introduction of these small molecules enhances the visible light absorption range and redistributes the charge density. Combining DRS, KPFM, and DFT results, it is revealed that the strong built-in electric field and the effective spatial separation of redox sites contribute to the directional charge separation and migration for superior photocatalytic H evolution.

This study used coal combustion products (CCP) with different calcium contents to replace partial aluminate cement (AC) in equal amounts, and studied the effect of calcium contents on the setting time and early compressive strength of AC. The setting time and early compressive strength were further regulated by adding retarder. The results showed that the higher the calcium content of CCP (CCP2 contains higher calcium content), the shorter the setting time and the higher the 2 h compressive strength after replacing part of cement.

A free association semantic task for fNIRS-based perinatal depression assessment.

Front Neurol

January 2025

National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric & Gynecologic Diseases Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Perinatal depression (PD) is a highly prevalent psychological disorder that has a detrimental effect on infant and maternal physical and mental health, but effective and objective assessment of PD is still insufficient. In recent years, the functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been acknowledged as an effective non-invasive tool for clinical assessment of depression. This study proposed a free association semantic task (FAST) paradigm for fNIRS-based assessment of PD.
