Article Synopsis
  • Glenohumeral subluxation (GHS) is a frequent issue in stroke patients with hemiplegia, affecting 17-81% of individuals, prompting a study to explore the link between shoulder muscle thickness and GHS using ultrasound.
  • A study with 61 stroke patients measured the thickness of the supraspinatus and deltoid muscles, employing logistic regression and ROC analyses to assess data.
  • The findings showed that supraspinatus muscle thickness is a significant indicator of GHS risk, with high statistical validity, suggesting it could guide rehabilitation efforts for affected patients.

Background: Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are at increased risk of developing renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are essential players in tumor advancement. However, the functions of circ_0000274 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are barely explored.

As a life-threatening disease, stroke is the leading cause of death and also induces adult disability worldwide. To investigate the efficacy of the integrated traditional Chinese medicine (ITCM) on the therapeutic effects of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients, we enrolled 26 patients in the ITCM [Tanhuo decoction (THD) + Western medicine (WM)] group and 23 in the WM group. Thirty healthy people were also included in the healthy control (HC) group.

USP38 might be a new therapeutic target for glioma via regulation of cancer cell metastasis.

Folia Neuropathol

February 2022

Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Chaoyang Integrative Medicine Emergency Medical Center, Beijing, China, 2Department of Cardiology, Characteristic Medical Centre of PAP, He Dong District, Tianjin, China.

Introduction: Gliomas are the most seen tumours in adults in the central nervous system, and high grade of gliomas cause the worse prognose of patients with a shorter survival period. Ubiquitin-specific protease 38 (USP38) has been regarded as the negative regulator of type I interferon signalling; it regulates the ubiquitination process of TANK binding kinase 1 (TBK1). Further study revealed that USP38 also stabilizes the protein lysine-specific histone demethylase 1A (LSD1) via cleaving the ubiquitin chain.

Background: Severe bony Bankart lesions are a difficult challenge in clinical treatment and research. The current treatment methods consist mostly of Latarjet-Bristow surgery and its modified procedures. While good results have been achieved, there are also complications such as coracoid fracture, bone graft displacement, and vascular and nerve injury.

Background: It has been demonstrated that berberine (BBR), a kind of alkaloid derived from Chinese herbal medicine, has multiple pharmacological effects on human's diseases including anti-atherosclerosis action. However, although the previous studies showed that the beneficial impact of BBR on atherosclerosis might be associated with proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), the exact underlying mechanism are not fully determined. The present study aimed to investigate potential mechanisms of anti-atherosclerosis by BBR using ApoE mice.

Objective: To study the protective effect of trimetazidine on myocardial cells in rats with myocardial infarction and explore its effect on ERK signaling pathway.

Methods: 40 SD rats were randomly divided into the sham operation group, model group, low-dose group, and high-dose group (intra-abdominal injection of trimetazidine 5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, respectively), construction of rat myocardial infarction model by coronary artery left anterior descending artery ligation. 7 days after surgery, the survival rate and cardiac function of each group of rats were recorded.

Objective: To investigate the role and mechanism of aspirin in myocardial injury induced by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion in rats through STAT3 signaling pathway.

Methods: Sixty rats were randomly divided into three groups: the sham operation group, MI/R group, and MI/R+aspirin group (aspirin group). The rats in the sham operation group did not ligate the LAD coronary artery, while the aspirin group ligated the LAD coronary artery, which caused the suture to be loosened after 30 minutes ischemia, and 60 mg/kg aspirin was injected into the tail vein 10 minutes before reperfusion.

Aging (Albany NY)

April 2020

Department of Orthopedics, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430022, China.

Overexpression of the miR-31-5p contributes to tumorigenesis and metastasis in diverse neoplasms. In this study, we evaluated expression of miR-31-5p in patients with colon adenocarcinoma (COAD). We found that miR-31-5p was overexpressed in four cohorts (GSE30454, GSE41655, GSE18392, GSE108153) of COAD patients.

Liraglutide improves lipid metabolism by enhancing cholesterol efflux associated with ABCA1 and ERK1/2 pathway.

Cardiovasc Diabetol

November 2019

Division of Dyslipidemia, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, National Center for Cardiovascular Disease, Fu Wai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: Reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) is an important cardioprotective mechanism and the decrease in cholesterol efflux can result in the dyslipidemia. Although liraglutide, a glucagon like peptide-1 analogue, has mainly impacted blood glucose, recent data has also suggested a beneficial effect on blood lipid. However, the exact mechanism by which liraglutide modulates lipid metabolism, especially its effect on RCT, remain undetermined.

Purpose: Intravoxel incoherent motion is a diffusion-weighted imaging magnetic resonance imaging technique that measures microvascular perfusion from a multi-b value sequence. Intravoxel incoherent motion microvascular perfusion has not been directly compared to conventional dynamic susceptibility contrast perfusion-weighted imaging in the context of acute ischemic stroke. We determined the degree of correlation between perfusion-weighted imaging and intravoxel incoherent motion parameter maps in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
