Circumferential Pulmonary Vein Isolation Plus Low-Voltage Area Modification in Persistent Atrial Fibrillation: The STABLE-SR-II Trial.

Background: Benefits of adjunctive ablation strategies beyond circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) are uncertain in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF).

Objectives: This study sought to compare clinical outcomes of CPVI plus low-voltage area (LVA) modification during STABLE-SR (SubsTrate ABlation in the LEft Atrium during Sinus Rhythm) vs circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) alone in patients with PeAF.

Methods: From March 2018 to August 2019, 300 patients with PeAF who underwent de novo ablation were recruited and prospectively randomized to either STABLE-SR group (n = 150) or CPVI alone (n = 150) group.

Association between blood ethylene oxide levels and the prevalence of hypertension.

The relationship of blood ethylene oxide levels with hypertension and blood pressure has not been addressed. A total of 5005 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2016 were enrolled. Hypertension was defined as a mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) of at least 140 mmHg, a mean diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of at least 90 mmHg, or both, and/or the self-reported use of prescription drugs for diagnosed hypertension.

Anisodamine hydrobromide ameliorates cardiac damage after resuscitation.

The microcirculation is correlated with the prognosis of patients with cardiac arrest and changes after resuscitation. In the present study, the effects of anisodamine hydrobromide (AH) on microcirculation was investigated and its potential mechanisms were explored. A total of 24 pigs were randomly grouped into three groups (n=8): Sham, Saline and AH group.

HDL and Therapy.

A wealth of evidence indicates that high-density lipoprotein assumes the unique antiatherosclerosis and other cardioprotective properties. Based on that, HDL-C has been considered as a promising therapy target to reduce the cardiovascular diseases. Recombinant HDL (rHDL) and apolipoprotein mimetic peptides emerge in recent years and have great potential in the future.

[Study on the difference of curative effect of conventional mercury displacement treatment on mercury in brain and kidney].

To explore the expulsion effect of sodium dimercaptopropanesulfonate (DMPS) on mercury in different organs of mercury poisoning and the therapeutic effect of glutathione (GSH) combined with antioxidant therapy on mercury poisoning. In February 2019, 50 SPF male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, 10 rats in each group: A (saline negative control group) , B (HgCL2 positive control group) , treatment group (C: intramuscular injection of DMPS 15 mg/kg treatment, D: intramuscular injection of DMPS30 mg/kg treatment, E: intramuscular injection of DMPS 15 mg/kg and intraperitoneal injection of GSH200 mg/kg treatment) . Rats in group B, C, D and E were subcutaneously injected with mercury chloride solution (1 mg/kg) to establish a rat model of subacute mercury poisoning kidney injury.

[A long-term ischemic stroke risk score model in patients aged 60 years and older with obstructive sleep apnea: a multicenter prospective cohort study].

Objective: To analyze the independent risk factors of long-term ischemic stroke and establish a nomogram for predicting the long-term risks in elderly patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: This multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted from January, 2015 to October, 2017 among consecutive elderly patients (≥60 years) with newly diagnosed OSA without a history of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases and loss of important clinical indicators. The follow-up outcome was the occurrence of ischemic stroke.

Association of Metabolic Syndrome With Long-Term Cardiovascular Risks and All-Cause Mortality in Elderly Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Background: Evidence suggests that an increased risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and all-cause mortality is associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), particularly in the elderly. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) increases cardiovascular risk in the general population; however, less is known about its influence in patients with OSA. We aimed to assess whether MetS affected the risk of MACE and all-cause mortality in elderly patients with OSA.

Safety and efficacy of microwave versus radiofrequency ablation for large hepatic hemangioma: a multicenter retrospective study with propensity score matching.

Objectives: To compare the safety and efficacy of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for such hemangiomas (5-9.9 cm in diameter).

Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study investigated the differences in technical success, ablation time, complete ablation, complications, hospital stay, and clinical response between MWA and RFA.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are endogenous non-coding RNAs, some of which have pathological roles. The current study aimed to explore the role of circRNA BTG3-associated nuclear protein (circ-BANP) binding with let-7f-5p and its regulation of the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway in residual hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after insufficient radiofrequency ablation (RFA).

Methods: Circ-BANP, let-7f-5p, and TLR4 expressions in HCC samples were assessed using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blotting.

Association Cystatin C and Risk of Stroke in Elderly Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Few prospective cohort studies have assessed the relationship between Cystatin C (Cys-C) and risk of stroke in elderly patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The study sought to examine the association between baseline serum Cys-C and long-term risk of stroke among elderly OSA patients. A total of 932 patients with OSA, no history of stroke, ≥60 years of age, and complete serum Cys-C records were included in this study.

[Correlation of obstructive sleep apnea with components of metabolic syndrome and implications for long-term adverse cardiovascular risk in elderly patients].

Objective: To investigate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in the elderly and the implications for long-term risk for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

Methods: This multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted among 1157 consecutive patients with OSA [defined as an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≥5 times/h recorded by overnight polysomnography] aged ≥60 years enrolled from January, 2015 to October, 2017. All the patients did not have a history of MACE at baseline and had complete documentations of MetS indicators.

Safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic intratumoral resection facilitated by coagulation of giant hepatic hemangioma: a matched case-control study and literature review.

Background: To report the safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic intratumoral resection facilitated by coagulation (LIRC) compared with laparoscopic hepatectomy (LH) in treating giant hepatic hemangioma.

Methods: From 2017 to 2020, 19 consecutive patients with giant hepatic hemangioma (≥ 10 cm) received LIRC in one center. We selected a subgroup of 103 patients treated by LH in other four centers who well matched the 19 consecutive patients treated with LIRC, in a 1:1 fashion based on the tumor location, tumor size, and body mass index.

Human Epididymis Protein 4 and Lewis y Enhance Chemotherapeutic Resistance in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Through the p38 MAPK Pathway.

Introduction: Ovarian cancer has a high mortality rate due to difficulties in early detection and chemotherapy resistance. Human epididymal protein 4 (HE4) has been adopted as a novel serum biomarker for early ovarian cancer diagnosis, and the presence of Lewis y antigen modifications on HE4 in ovarian cancer cell lines has been detected in previous studies. The aim of this study was to analyze the expression of HE4 and Lewis y antigen in human ovarian cancer in order to find a correlation between them, as well as with the clinical pathological parameters of patients with ovarian cancer.

[Biological mesh versus primary closure for pelvic floor reconstruction following extralevator abdominoperineal excision: a meta-analysis].

To compare the morbidity of perineum-related complication between biological mesh and primary closure in closing pelvic floor defects following extralevator abdominoperineal excision (ELAPE). A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Wanfang database, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP database, and China Biological Medicine database for published clinical researches on perineum-related complications following ELAPE between January 2007 and August 2020. Literature inclusion criteria: (1) study subjects: patients undergoing ELAPE with rectal cancers confirmed by colonoscopy pathological biopsy or surgical pathology; (2) study types: randomized controlled studies or observational studies comparing the postoperative perineum-related complications between the two groups (primary perineal closure and reconstruction with a biological mesh) following ELAPE; (3) intervention measures: biological mesh reconstruction used as the treatment group, and primary closure used as the control group; (4) outcome measures: the included literatures should at least include one of the following postoperative perineal complications: overall perineal wound complications, perineal wound infection, perineal wound dehiscence, perineal hernia, chronic sinus, chronic perineal pain (postoperative 12-month), urinary dysfunction and sexual dysfunction.

The efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation on the platelet activation and the inflammatory response in elderly atrial fibrillation patients.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of arrhythmia. AF is more common in the elderly population than in the young population. Radiofrequency ablation (RA) is the treatment option for drug-naïve AF; however, previous studies have focused on the young population.
