Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) has become the cornerstone of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation, but long-term success rates remains suboptimal, due in large part to late PV reconnection and insufficient ostial substrate modification.
Objective: To evaluate whether ablation index (AI)-guided PVI with electrical isolation and quantified ostial substrate modification improves clinical outcomes when compared with contact force (CF)-guided ablation in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).
Methods: The PAF-AI trial (ChiCTR1900022041) is a prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled clinical trial enrolling patients with PAF with an indication for catheter ablation.
Background: It has been recommended that critically ill patients start mobilization as early as possible. However, the clinical utilization rate of early mobilization remains low in the intensive care unit (ICU), and respiratory therapists and nurses are the primary practitioners of early mobilization in China.
Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and perceived barriers of ICU nurses regarding the early mobilization of ICU patients.

Background: Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) generated by major surgery can induce global inflammation response and may degrade the vascular endothelial glycocalyx layer (EGL); in turn, the resulting EGL fragments can act as DAMPs, in a destructive positive feedback loop, to promote exacerbation of inflammation. Ulinastatin (UTI) may attenuate EGL shedding by inhibiting serine proteases and hyaluronidase.
Objective: This trail evaluates whether EGL shedding elicited by Traditional Whipple Procedure (TWP) could be decreased by using UTI.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a major pathogenic factor in patients with cardiovascular diseases, and endothelial dysfunction (ED) plays a primary role in the occurrence and development of AS. In our study, we attempted to evaluate the role of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) in endothelial cell apoptosis under oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) stimulation and identify the associated mechanisms. The results of our study demonstrated that ox-LDL induced human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) death via mitochondrial apoptosis, as evidenced by reduced mitochondrial potential, increased mitochondria permeability transition pore opening, cellular calcium overload, and caspase-9/-3 activation.

pH/redox sensitive, dual drug loaded nanoparticles were prepared from poly(ethylene glycol)--poly(l-lysine) (PEG--PLL) for improving cancer therapy. Platinum(iv) and -aconitic anhydride-doxorubicin (CAD) were anchored to lysine residual amine groups of PLL to form polymer prodrug conjugates, which then self-assembled into nanoparticles with hydrophobic platinum(iv) prodrugs and CAD as the core. The nanoparticles were stable in neutral environments, but once under acidic and reductive conditions, the drugs were rapidly released.
