Physicochemical properties and in vitro digestibility of starch from naturally air-dried chestnut.

Int J Biol Macromol

October 2018

Department of Food Science and Engineering, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Key Laboratory of Forest Food Process and Safety, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Naturally air-dried chestnut is a type of traditionally processed chestnut in North China which has a pleasant flavor. After air drying at room temperature and low-air humidity for two wk, the moisture, total starch content and starch relative crystallinity decreased, while the content of water-soluble sugar and amylose increased because of the dehydration and the hydrolysis of endogenous amylase. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy ratio of 1047/1022 cm and the relative area of the Raman spectrum peak at 480/865 cm of air-dried chestnut starch decreased in the first two wk and then increased, while the full width at half-maximum height (FWHH) of the Raman spectrum peak at 480 cm showed the opposite tendency.

Shenzhen Ruipuxun Academy for Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Shenzhen, China.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a highly prevalent psychiatric disorder that has been ranked as the 4th leading cause of disability worldwide. Past clinical and laboratory evidence has confirmed that abnormalities of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis are involved in MDD development. In this study, we took advantage of corticosterone treatment of PC12 cells as a model to identify genes regulated by HPA-axis hormones.

June 2018

Department of Chemistry, Beijing Key Laboratory for Analytical Methods and Instrumentation, Key Lab of Bioorganic Phosphorus Chemistry and Chemical Biology of Ministry of Education, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China. Electronic address:

In this work, a novel and sensitive electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for protein kinase A (PKA) activity analysis and relevant inhibitor screening was proposed based on bimetallic catalysis signal amplification and recognition of Au and Pt nanoparticles loaded metal-organic frameworks (Au&Pt@UiO-66) nanocomposite. After being phosphorylated by PKA in the presence of ATP, Au&Pt@UiO-66 probes were specifically chelated to the modified electrode by forming Zr-O-P bonds between the surface defects of UiO-66 and the phosphorylated kemptide. Due to the high synergistic catalysis of Au&Pt@UiO-66 nanocomposites to the luminol-HO reaction, the ECL signal of luminol was greatly enhanced.

Kinship testing based on genetic markers, as forensic short tandem repeats (STRs) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), has valuable practical applications. Paternity and first-degree relationship can be accurately identified by current commonly-used forensic STRs and reported SNP markers. However, second-degree and more distant relationships remain challenging.

The wear resistance and stable mechanical properties affect the service life of the underwater functional materials to a certain extent. Unfortunately, the current study of underwater functional materials is rarely related to these aspects. Herein, we successfully designed and prepared polyurethane/graphite nanosheet (PU/GN) composite materials, which exhibited excellent wear resistance and stable mechanical properties underwater.

The Spindle- and Kinetochore-Associated (SKA) complex has been proven to be involved in many human mental behavioral disorders. Glucocorticoid, a hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hormone, is a critical mediator of stress response in neurons. However, the underlying mechanisms of glucocorticoid's effects on human neuronal cells remain unclear.

We previously demonstrated that matrine could inhibit the proliferating, migrating, as well as invading processes of both PC-3 and DU145 cells. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms have not yet been clearly defined. In this study, using various techniques such as high throughput sequencing technology, bioinformatics, quantitative real-time PCR, and immunoblot analysis, we aimed to understand whether matrine serves as a novel regulator of FOXO and PI3K-AKT signaling pathway.

Unconjugated estriol (uE) is one of the main naturally occurring estrogens that plays an important role in growth and development of the fetus. Usually, the level of uE is very low in men and non-pregnant women, but in pregnant women, the level of estriol has been found to be quite high. Therefore, the combination of uE, AFP, and hCG is now widely used for Down Syndrome screening as a triple marker.

November 2017

Department of Chemistry, Beijing Key Laboratory for Analytical Methods and Instrumentation, Key Lab of Bioorganic Phosphorus Chemistry and Chemical Biology (Ministry of Education), Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China. Electronic address:

A turn-on photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor based on the surface defect recognition and multiple signal amplification of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) was proposed for highly sensitive protein kinase activity analysis and inhibitor evaluation. In this strategy, based on the phosphorylation reaction in the presence of protein kinase A (PKA), the Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (UiO-66) accommodated with [Ru(bpy)] photoactive dyes in the pores were linked to the phosphorylated kemptide modified TiO/ITO electrode through the chelation between the Zr defects on the surface of UiO-66 and the phosphate groups in kemptide. Under visible light irradiation, the excited electrons from [Ru(bpy)] adsorbed in the pores of UiO-66 injected into the TiO conduction band to generate photocurrent, which could be utilized for protein kinase activities detection.

Department of Food Science and Engineering, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Key Laboratory of Forest Food Process and Safety, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Near-infrared (NIR) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy was used to evaluate the quality of fresh chestnuts, which can be affected by mildew, water, and levels of water-soluble sugars. The NIR spectra were determined and then modeling was performed including principal component analysis - discriminant analysis (PCA-DA), soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and partial least squares (PLS) methods. LDA model was better than PCA-DA model for the discrimination of normal and mildewed chestnuts, and the accuracy rates of calibration and validation were 100% and 96.

Removal of Integrated Hepatitis B Virus DNA Using CRISPR-Cas9.

Front Cell Infect Microbiol

June 2017

Center for Infectious Disease Control, Institute of Disease Control and Prevention, Academy of Military Medical Sciences Beijing, China.

The presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) and the permanent integration of HBV DNA into the host genome confers the risk of viral reactivation and hepatocellular carcinoma. Nucleoside/nucleotide analogs alone have little or no capacity to eliminate replicative HBV templates consisting of cccDNA or integrated HBV DNA. Recently, CRISPR/Cas9 technology has been widely applied as a promising genome-editing tool, and HBV-specific CRISPR-Cas9 systems were shown to effectively mediate HBV cccDNA disruption.
