In bimetallic heterostructured nanoparticles (NPs), the synergistic effect between their different metallic components leads to higher catalytic activity compared to the activity of the individual components. However, how the dynamic changes through which these NPs adopt catalytically active structures during a reaction and how the restructuring affects their activity are largely unknown. Here, using operando transmission electron microscopy, structural changes are studied in bimetallic Ni-Rh NPs, comprising of a Ni core whose surface is decorated with smaller Rh NPs, during a CO oxidation reaction.

This study discovered that the resolution of 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid(isochlorogenic acid A) in the content determination method of Chrysanthemi Flos in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(ChP)(2020 edition) was poor, which affected accurate quantification. We tested the method in ChP with chromatographic columns of seven brands to clarify the problems in the existing method, optimized the chromatographic conditions by adjusting the mobile phase composition and elution ratio and replacing the chromatographic column packing, and carried out the reproducibility assay for the new method. The two methods were compared for the content determination results of Chrysanthemi Flos prepared from six different varieties.

Three new lipopeptaibols, halovirs I-K (1-3), were isolated from the solid culture of the phytopathogenic fungus Paramyrothecium roridum NRRL 2183. Their planar structures, which consist of a hexapeptide backbone and acyl substitutions at the N- and C-termini, were elucidated by comprehensive analysis of the 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data along with the detailed interpretation of the MS/MS fragmentation pattern. Absolute configurations of the amino acid/1,2-amino alcohol residues were determined using the advanced Marfey's method.

The effects of ultrasound and microwave on the physicochemical properties of normal maize and potato starches were compared. The cavitation effect of ultrasound loosened the internal space and destroyed the structure of starch granules, increased the damaged starch content, which was consistent with the decrease in relative crystallinity and the number and brightness of Maltese crosses, and the increase in D(0.5) and D(4,3) values.

Salmonella is one of the most dangerous food-borne pathogens around the world to cause a threat to humans and it is urgent to develop the rapid detection method of trace Salmonella in food. Although many advanced techniques have been widely applied to shorten the detection time, the pretreatment method usually used of traditional enrichment and plate culturing to separate Salmonella are complicated and time-consuming. Herein, we developed an effective pretreatment method based on in situ enrichment culture with an immunomagnetic separation step, combined with droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) technology to achieve rapid detection of trace Salmonella in milk, which allowed detecting as low as 10 CFU/mL level of Salmonella.

The conditional control of protein function in response to the physiological change of cells is of great interest for studying protein function in biological settings and developing protein therapeutics. We report herein that catalase (CAT) DNAzyme can potentiate the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in living cells by knocking down catalase expression, which could further activate a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive pro-protein, RNase A-NBC, in situ. Using an optimized lipid nanoparticle delivery system to simultaneously introduce CAT DNAzyme and RNase A-NBC into cells, we show that the pro-protein, RNase A-NBC, could be activated in a significantly enhanced manner to prohibit tumor cell growth in different types of cancer cells.

Three new thymol derivatives, 7-formyl-9-isobutyryloxy-8-hydroxythymol (1), 7,9-di-isobutyryloxy-8,10-dehydrothymol (2) and 2α-methoxyl-3β-methyl-6-methylol-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (3), along with five known ones (4-8), were isolated from the aerial parts of the invasive plant . Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and they were all isolated from the aerial part of for the first time. Endogenous glycopeptides are significantly important in diverse pathological and physiological systems, but their direct analysis is severely hampered by their low abundance and presence of interfering species in biological fluids. In this study, we synthesized the amine-functionalized titanium metal-organic framework (NH-MIL-125(Ti)) by a simple hydrothermal method, characterized and used for glycopeptides enrichment. The designed separation media is highly hydrophilic and stable which is suitable for hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC).
