January 2024

China Food Flavor and Nutrition Health Innovation Center, Beijing Technology and Business University, Beijing 100048, China. Electronic address:

Chestnuts are a starchy food with a characteristic glutinous taste that is often used to assess their quality. In this study, our findings indicated that chestnuts with higher glutinous taste quality had lower amylose content and microcrystalline structures, as well as higher subcrystalline structures and relative crystallinity in both the raw and steamed starches. In the leached starch, chestnuts with higher glutinous taste quality had lower amylopectin B1 chains and microcrystalline structure, but higher amylopectin B2 chains, subcrystalline structure and relative crystallinity.

Beijing Center for Physical and Chemical Analysis, Institute of Analysis and Testing, Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, Beijing 100089, China.

The leaves of plants can be recommended as a cheap and sustainable environmental protection tool to mitigate PAHs with high toxicity in the ambient environment because they can serve as a reactor to remove ambient PAHs. Although previous studies have demonstrated that PAHs exhibit toxicological features, our knowledge about how ambient PAHs influence the leaves of plants is limited regarding the leaves of plants reducing ambient PAHs as a reactor. In this study, 1-year-old .

Key Laboratory of Protein and Peptide Pharmaceutical, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, China.

As one of the main tumor-infiltrating immune cell types, tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) determine the efficacy of immunotherapy. However, limited knowledge about their phenotypically and functionally heterogeneous nature restricts their application in tumor immunotherapy. In this study, we identified a subpopulation of CD146 TAMs that exerted antitumor activity in both human samples and animal models.

In forensic investigations, age estimation is vital for determining whether a suspect is under or over the legally defined adult age. With breakthroughs in RNA sequencing technology, small noncoding RNAs have provided new ways to solve problems related to the age estimation of trace or aged samples, owing to their small molecular weight and better stability. In our previous study, we had applied miRNAs for the age estimation of bloodstains; however, further improvement of the existing model is needed.

The degradation process of different types of mulch in agriculture and its effect on soil ecosystem should be considered comprehensively. To this end, the changes in performance, structure, morphology, and composition of PBAT film during the degradation process were examined through a multiscale approach in comparison with several PE films and their effects on the soil physicochemical properties were investigated. At the macroscopic scale, the load and elongation of all films decreased with increasing ages and depths.

Titanates are widely used in the synthesis of polyesters, such as Poly (butylene succinate) (PBS), due to their excellent catalytic activity for polycondensation. However, the hydrolysis sensitivity of titanate and side reactions at high temperatures restrict the further improvement of the molecular weight of polyesters and lead to the high content of end carboxyl group content in the products. In this work, we prepared titania-silica composite aerogels with resistance to hydrolysis and large specific surface area, which were further explored as an efficient catalyst for polycondensation reactions.

Mass Spectrometry-Guided Discovery of Multi--Methylated Cyclodecapeptides Auyuittuqamides E-H from sp. QL0466.

J Nat Prod

May 2023

Biotechnology Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, 12 Zhongguancun South Street, Beijing, 100081, People's Republic of China.

Mass spectrometry-based dereplication and prioritization led to the discovery of four multi--methylated cyclodecapeptides, auyuittuqamides E-H (-), from a soil-derived sp. The planar structures of these compounds were elucidated based on analysis of HRESIMS and NMR data. Absolute configurations of the chiral amino acid residues were assigned by a combination of the advanced Marfey's method, chiral-phase LC-MS analysis, and -based configuration analysis, revealing that - contain both d- and l-isomers of -methylleucine (MeLeu).

The conversion of paramagnetic solid iron oxides to magnetic iron oxides has drawn considerable interest, but it's still challenging to carry out without heat treatment or irradiation. In this work, solid amorphous iron oxide chrysanthemum-like nanosheets synthesized by a smart redox strategy at the interface of a soap-free emulsion are magnetized at room temperature and under ambient pressure. An amorphous FeOOH hollow shell with needles towards water is produced by the reaction of cumyl hydroperoxide (CHPO) and iron(II) sulfate (FeSO) at the interface of the emulsion generated by ultrasound and torn up into chrysanthemum-like nanosheets simultaneously.

March 2023

Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, People's Republic of China.

Positively charged Cu sites have been confirmed to significantly promote the production of multicarbon (C) products from an electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR). However, the positively charged Cu has difficulty in existing under a strong negative bias. In this work, we design a Pd-CuN catalyst containing charge-separated Pd-Cu atom pair that can stabilize the Cu sites.

The use of DNA methylation to predict chronological age has shown promising potential for obtaining additional information in forensic investigations. To date, several studies have reported age prediction models based on DNA methylation in body fluids with high DNA content. However, it is often difficult to apply these existing methods in practice due to the low amount of DNA present in stains of body fluids that are part of a trace material.

Department of Food Science and Engineering, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Key Laboratory of Forest Food Processing and Safety, Beijing Forestry University, 100083, Beijing, China.

Microwave treatment, roasting, boiling, and enzymatic treatment were used to prepare cooked and instant chestnut flour, and the in vitro digestibility were compared. Cooking gelatinized the starch and destroyed the granular and crystal structure, increasing starch digestibility. After enzymatic hydrolysis, starches were degraded by 20~24%, and the reducing sugar content of the instant flours increased by 79~94%.

Corn starch aerogels (CSA) prepared with sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) as a cross-linking agent and β-carotene encapsulation were evaluated in terms of morphology, long- and short-range molecular order, bioavailability, and stability. After encapsulating β-carotene, the morphology of SHMP-CSA showed that the aerogels presented agglomeration, and the relative crystallinity increased from 17.

Department of Food Science and Engineering, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Key Laboratory of Forest Food Processing and Safety, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Starchy foods are a major energy source of the human diet, their digestion is closely related to human health. Most foods require lots of processing before eating, therefore, many factors can influence starch digestibility. The factors that affect the digestibility of starches have been widely discussed previously, but the extracted starches in those studies were different from those present within the actual food matrix.

Pyroptosis is a new type of regulated cell death that is of great interest for developing new strategies for treating cancers. This potential is however greatly limited by the low efficiency and selectivity of current strategies to regulate cancer cell pyroptosis. Herein, we report biodegradable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for intracellular delivery of glucose oxidase (GOx) that promotes cascade biocatalysis inside cells and selectively induces cancer cell pyroptosis.

Tinuvin 622, an oligomeric light stabilizer, is widely used in plastics to reduce light and heat induced degradation and extend their service life, therefore its detection is of great importance for quality control of plastic products. However, the classical analytical methods of Tinuvin 622, such as chromatography and mass spectrometry, are difficult to achieve direct qualitative and quantitative analysis, and simultaneously to obtain the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution information. Herein, we propose for the first time the combination of gel permeation chromatography with multi-angle laser light scattering as a simple and direct method to detect Tinuvin 622 in polymers and simultaneously to obtain its molecular weight distribution information.
